Dora sat on the sand with Micky, it was her pet. Her only friend since she was seven. She stood up to go play with the other kids when her mother yelled her name. “Dora. Where are you going?”
“I want to play with the other kids. I'll be back soon.”
“Get your ass back here. You are not going any where with Micky."
“But mother…"
“Go back home, or I'll drag you myself.”
Dora grunted, taking Micky in her arms and heading back home. Aunty Kristina, who was discussing with Mrs. Betty, chuckled, she was feeling pity for Dora.
“You should have let her play with the other kids.” She insisted.
Mrs. Betty didn't want to hear that. She knows Dora better than any one. One minute she is here, and the other she is gone. She had almost put her in trouble twice, this almost got her into a serious misunderstanding with Dora's father.
Since then, she's been very conscious of Dora's movement. But little Dora wouldn't understand that. She thinks her mother hates her.
“I can't do that. Dora has gotten me into trouble twice, I can't let her put me into another trouble. She will remain at home until her father returns from work. I don't need her problems.”
“But we are both outside, we'll keep an eye on her.”
“You just don't know who that brat is, when you do, you will see the reasons why I did what I did. Never mind about her, let's continue our conversation.”
Dora was already burning in anger. One thing she hated about her mother was her constant attitude of being overprotective. She hated it when people controlled her. She hates it when her mother says no to her. Most times she wished her father were around, he wouldn't let her mother deprive her of playing with the kids.
She went to her room, staring out through the small window. She was watching as the kids played, she hugged Micky tight. “Don't worry, Micky, we'll play some other time.” Micky swung his tail at both sides.
She looked at her puppy, who was staring outside the window, jingling his small tail at both sides. “Look Micky, I've got an idea. It's crazy, but it's still the best.”
He looked at her like he even understood a thing from what she just said. But despite that, she knew he couldn't hear her.
“So, I decided that you and I will go play when everyone will be asleep.” He made this tiny sound that looked like he was going to cry. “I know, I know. It's risky, every one says that. But, why don't we check it out? We probably don't know if they are lying or just too scared of nothing. “
He looked at her. “And fortunately, it's a full moon tonight, won't you love to see the full moon? Not in here, I mean, outside.” He swung his tell, and she could tell that's a yes.
“Great. Tonight then.”
It was time for dinner, Mrs. Betty had called Dora from her room. Dora took minutes to show up. “What took you so long to show up?” Asked her father.
“Nothing. Micky wanted to sleep, so I had to put him to bed first.” She sat on her chair, picking her spoon before eating on her food. They ate in silence, not talking to each other.
Dora had thought her mother would tell her father about her attempting to play outside, but she didn't raise the topic. After dinner, Dora quickly went upstairs after dropping the plates in the sink. She was waiting for every one to go to bed before she acted.
She intends to leave the house at midnight with Micky to play. Furthermore, she had mentally made plans on how to sneak out. When the cloud were dark, and the weather seemed cold, Dora sneaked out of the room.
She ran as fast as she could, making sure she was far from home where no one would hear her voice. She sat Micky on the ground, sitting beside him. “Look at the sky, Micky, isn't it beautiful?”
Micky didn't talk, his tongue was out as he breathed heavily. “I always love the full moon.”
Meanwhile, she seems not to have noticed the weird movement of the grasses. Some one was with them, some one was watching her. Micky noticed the unusual smell, so he started barking. Dora tried to hold his mouth, but he took it off, still barking loud.
“Shut up, Micky, you're going to create a scene.” But he didn't stop, he kept barking. “s**t! I knew I shouldn't have brought you here.”
Micky ran towards where the movement was, he stopped there, looking around. Dora stood up from the ground, walking to his side. “What's wrong? Do you sense some thing?” She asked.
Micky stopped barking, bringing its tongue out. “Okay, you're freaking me out now. I think we should get going then.” It was then she heard the sound from the bush. She turned her head sharply in the direction of the sound, but didn't see any thing.
“Who's there?” She asked but got no response. “Micky, did you see any thing here?”
He barked.
“Come on, let's go home.” Micky left her, running to find whatever it was in there. “Micky wait!” Dora was shocked to see him run out from the bush, leaving her alone. “Micky, wait for me! Stop!"
She froze at the growling sound of a wolf behind her. Slowly, she turned, her eyes meeting two dark red eyes staring back at her. It looks like a dog, but huge and ten times bigger than Micky. She had never seen some thing big like that before.
She knew she shouldn't have come out. Likewise, she should have just stayed back home. Now that Micky is gone, she can't do any thing. It growled hungrily, saliva dripping out from its canine teeth.
Dora took to her heels, not looking back. She couldn't remember her way back home, but she kept running. She could hear the creature running after her, and it was just behind her. Furthermore, she looked back to check her distance, mistakenly stepping on a stone. Furthermore, she fell, trembling in fear.
Could this be her last? She hated herself for being so stubborn.
“Please. Please — don't kill me. Please… I…" She was cut short by its growl. It walked over her, staring down at her face. It opened its mouth to bite her when she covered her face with her hands. Its teeth grabbed her wrist, biting on it.
Dora cried in pain. When she opened her eyes, the creature was gone.
Micky never bothered her at the moment... Home did.
