Osiris POV-
I was ready to kill Andrew. How dare he decide to just blurt out to Alsie that we were her mates. Plus, we don’t even know for sure. Then we left her standing on a sidewalk in the human world hours and miles away from home, from us. What kind of wolves are we? Scratch that, what kind of mates are we?
Thankfully, Andrew's phone rang just in time to prevent the situation from getting worse. That whole scene was escalating quickly in the wrong direction.
Now not only am I mad at my brother, but I’m also confused, excited, and a whole host of other emotions.
“Bro, what the hell is going on?” asked Evander.
“Si, you got any idea why Beta Jacob is so interested, no not interested, so against Alsie?”
“I’m not talking to you right now, Andrew.”
“Oh, mature of you.”
“Idiots! Both of you, f*****g idiots,” snarled Evander. “Since you two can’t figure your s**t out, let me break this down for you. Somehow, Alsie just became our mate. I don’t mind one bit, but I have absolutely no idea how this just happened. Beta Jacob is c**k-blocking on a whole out-of-this-world level, and we seem to be the only ones who don’t know why. Our father and current Alpha just pulled some serious behind-the-scenes strings with Alsie, and we don’t know why or how. Oh, yea…let’s not forget a murdered pack member with a rental property in Vader. All of us in this car know what’s in Vader, who may or may not be working with the Lewis County Sheriff’s department. But, yea, which one of you can piss farther? I expected this “rah-rah” macho s**t from Andrew, but you Si, seriously? Get it together. Both of you, fast, like vampire fast.”
We finally pulled up to the pack house. For it being the middle of the day, the place was quiet. We exited the vehicle. I was relieved to be out of my Rover. I took in the smell of the surrounding forest, stretched my legs, and looked around.
The three of us approached the large wooden front door.
“It’s locked.”
“What, locked, are you sure?” I asked Andrew.
This door is never locked. In fact, I didn’t know it could lock until we were about 12 years old, and I accidentally locked Alsie out of the house. I panicked when she couldn’t open the door from the outside and I couldn’t get it to budge from the inside. I told Andrew the door was stuck, and he ran full force into it with his shoulder, splitting it down the middle. I chuckled at the memory of the door splitting.
“Well, it won’t open, and the knob won’t turn. Are you having a stroke right now? What are you laughing at?”
“No, no stroke. Just remembering you breaking this door down when we were 12.”
“Funny ha-ha. I dislocated my shoulder doing that. That hurt.”
“It’s a big door. Do we knock? How do we get in?” asked Evander
“Hello Alphas, you don’t need to knock, everyone heard you pull up.”
“Hey Shelby, why is the door locked, where is everyone?”
Shelby is one of the omegas who tends to the packhouse. She lives in the omega quarters on the kitchen side of the house. I always liked her.
“I’ll let Alpha Kordell explain the door situation. Everyone who needs to be here is in Alpha Kordell’s private conference room. That’s where you three need to be,” replied Shelby quietly.
“Thank you,” I replied to Shelby.
My brothers and I walked through the foyer, to the double staircase, up the staircase on the right. This one went to the Alpha and Luna private quarters. The left staircase went to an area for ranked members of the pack only.
We walked down the hallway and the door to the conference room was open.
“Hello sons, please close the door behind you and have a seat.”
Andrew was the last in the room. He closed the door behind him. The three of us took a seat on one side of the large table. Our father was at the head of the table; our mother, the current Luna, was seated across from us at the other side of the table. I noticed Beta Jacob was not present. However, my father’s Gamma was. I turned my head and looked at my brothers. They noticed Gamma Benji right away. It was at that moment that I noticed a man I’d never seen before sitting on the couch.
“Him and his presence doesn’t concern you yet, Osiris.” My father bellowed.
“Don’t use that tone with me, I maybe your son, but I am an Alpha.”
“No. Not yet you’re not. Keep that tone with me and you won’t be. Not of this pack anyway.” Countered my father.
“Dad, what is going on? I’m tired. I want to take a shower. I’ve got a million questions to ask you and a million things to tell you. Can we please skip the Alpha bullshit and get to the business of things?” pleaded Evander.
I watched my father exchange a quick look with my mother. I have a feeling that this meeting is going to be a long one, and we’re not going to like most of it.
“OK, enough with the sideways glances and threats. You know what? I’ll set it off. Brook from the diner was murdered in Everett. Alsie caught the case, and Brook has a rental home in Vader.” Blurted out Andrew.
“That is troublesome. I am aware of the basics of the case. I have spoken with Alsie about it. I called her as soon as I found out about Brook. I have the same concerns as you about this Vader development. I’m also more than a little alarmed about the police connection and her prints being on file,” replied my father as he sat down in his chair.
“Why was the door locked and where is Beta Jacob?” I asked.
“The door was locked because we needed to clear out the packhouse before our guest arrived. Beta Jacob is on patrol at the north end of our territory. We need to keep that area clear when it’s time for guest to leave,” my father answered.
I was a little shocked that the answers to our questions were coming so easily. It got me thinking maybe we’re not asking the right questions.
“Why is Beta Jacob acting weird?”
“Ah, now we’re getting somewhere. Good question Osiris.”
I knew it. We were asking the wrong questions. Here comes some of my dad’s Alpha double-talk bullshit. I swear when I’m alpha I’m going to just answer the questions, no riddles.
“Beta Jacob’s behavior is of no concern of yours. He’s my beta, not yours. But I assure you he has the pack’s best interests at heart. Or at least he thinks he does.” Typical Alpha Kordell response.
“Alsie?” I ask
“All of it please, all the information you’ve been keeping. No more secrets. I’m tired of secrets,” said Andrew.
“Your Highness, I think it’s your time to shine,” my father said as he waved a hand over to the dark figure on the couch.
“Your Highness? There is no current Alpha King,” I said, flabbergasted.
“You are correct young Alpha, I’m not an Alpha King, some call me a Wolf God.”
