Maya's POV
When the goddesses told me that my baby would be safe it let me relax some. I knew that my older ones could fight and weren't helpless. It was the one in my belly that concerned me the most. I had not voiced that to anyone.
"What has you stuck in your head?" I felt Joe's arms wrap me still chuckling from the events of the blood bond.
"This whole thing," I waved my hands, at everyone.
Joe turned me around so I was facing, "darling all will be well. Hawk is fine and not going anywhere. He will be my right hand, like a wolf that means he will be our Beta," he kissed my forehead. His huge arms encircling me as he placed me against his chest where I felt I belonged.
"Are you sure that is what they meant," I half sighed and whined into his chest?
"I wholeheartedly agree that is what it was." He kissed the top of my head then adding, "plus have you seen their mate marks?" Identical to ours just in orange." Both his big hands on each side of my face, "you're not losing any family." With that, he grabbed my face pulling me forward and soundly kissing me.
The man knew me so well. I was becoming a worry wort with this pregnancy. It was gonna drive me batty.
This pup is drawing a lot from us, she will be very powerful. Reina said with a chirp of happiness.
She? I asked.
Of course! Every ancient Lyican ruler was a female. Reina huffed as if I insulted her.
I did not know that. Why was it like that? I continued with questions.
The old ways have been long forgotten because of the power-hungry males. Women were powerful in ancient times as we could both be spirit and flesh. Men even now can not go between both worlds. It is a part of who we are that has been forgotten. Reina sighed deeply. Why it was given to males I will never understand.
I could feel her roll her eyes so deeply that it let me giggle. That is something I agree with.

Joe's POV

Having Hawk as my Beta was going to be new. I like the idea of it, it was the trust part I was having issues with. He was Cacodemon after all. The soul taker. I had to admit having the soul taker as my Beta would make us an unstoppable team. Not a single Alpha would step out of line. Knowing Mortou and Athens would be around also helped. They were not Hawk though. Elder Braun still had concerns until he seen their marks. Even chatted with Ben about it. They were who told me what the marks had to do with the royal family.
"Hawk, can we have a private chat?" I asked leaving Maya as I noticed she and her wolf was in deep conversation.
"Of course" Hawk nodded in his unique way.
We walked to a far corner, as I looked at the others noting they too were chatting with each other. "I know the Goddesses said you would be my right hand, how do you feel about being our Beta?" I asked. I eyed him and his movements. So different from everyone else, slow and calculated always.
I watched him think about it for a moment. "Is that why Amber and I have crowns in our marks?" He turned his eyes to mine.
"It is, Elder Braun and Ben both confirmed it." I nodded.
"Then I would be honored to be your Beta," Hawk reached out a hand to shake.
I clasped his hand and shook. "Thank you," I knew having him around would be insanely helpful with how my life had turned to utter chaos.
"Welcome," he looked back to see Amber talking to Maya. "I wonder what they meant about my line moving forward. Amber was damaged by a now-dead werecat." I could hear the upset mixed with the growl.
"I will send prayers to the Goddesses that she is healed." I meant every word. Not having a child of your own would be almost killing to the spirit.
Hawk gave me a salute, as he turned to go back to Amber. They gathered Ronan up from the couch he slept on and wandered out to their room quietly.
"You asked him?" Mortou asked.
"I did, and he accepted." I glanced at the old bear. He seemed concerned but his normal stoic self.
"How about you?" I turned to give him a decent side-eye look.
"Not sure how I feel about that cursed to a blessing thing. I would hope we get status in our own right and not just per shifter things." He shrugged.
"I think we shall see, about it in the next bit." I glanced back to the room noticing people were drifting out to go to their rooms for the night. "I am just happy to see mates finding mates," I jerked my head in the direction of Mike and Lory.
"I think that will be a powerful couple, he reminds me of the cubs from the first generation." Mortou looked at Mike with a softer eye.
"That boy can fight, when he hits it almost feels like yours," I chuckled patting him on the back.
"I think I might teach him some old magic as I did you," Mortou smirked. "Sleep well," Mortou spoke as he wandered out of the room
I noted Maya was by herself, going back to her, "you and your wolf get things sorted?" I wrapped my arms around her.
"We did," she smiled up at me. "She did tell me what we are having if you want to know?" I saw the devilish glint in her eyes.
"Really?" I raised a brow, "how is my son?" I grinned placing my hand on her belly.
"Your daughter," she snickered as she gave my stunned face a quick peck on my lips then bolted from the room in a fit of giggles.
She wants us to chase! Ravi shouted in my head.
On it! I said to him as I too bolted out of the room giving chase to my woman.
