I've barely been sleeping. I haven't eaten. Haven't showered. It's only been two days. I'm worried about if she's ok, if she's been eating well, if the baby's ok. I got a call from my dad. I answer immediately.
Me: Papà.
Dad: Change of plans. We're going after Melanie sooner than I thought.
Me: Great! But why the sudden urgency from you?
Dad: The Golden Ice Palace called me today. Alot of people's checks bounced and the weddings been moved up.
Me: To when?
Dad: In three days.
Me: What?!
Dad: I'm sorry, but the plan goes into effect now. Gwen is on her way to pick you up. Be ready.
Me: But da--
He hangs up the phone. I can't believe this moment is happening. I'll finally get to be with my girasole again. I rush up the stairs and start packing my bag. I packed another bag for Melanie. I'm cleaning my guns and packing them as well. While packing, I noticed the one I had just bought for Melanie. I put it in my bag and zip it up. I hop in the shower. I want to be smelling good when I hold her again.
I changed into some black cargo shorts and a black shirt. Something simple but something she would still like. I hear the doorbell ring. I rushed downstairs, assuming it was Gwen. When I opened the door, it was Lilly, Briggs, Leon, and Monica. I move out of the way and motion for them to come in.
Me: Hey guys. What's up?
Lilly: So we have info that might be useful in your search.
Me: What's that?
Monica: So, like four days ago, Kai came home with a big bag from a s*x shop. He rushed into the room but didn't know the receipt had fallen off his bag. The items he bought were rope, handcuffs, gags, that type of stuff. Yeah, they're usually s****l items, but they can also be used for a kidnapping. I'm sorry I didn't say anything sooner. I thought he had found a new girlfriend or him and that girl, Stephanie, got serious.
Me: Sara.
Monica: Yeah her.
I start laughing. I'm sure she knows her name. But I wouldn't want to speak it either. Lilly is fidgeting with her hand and she starts crying.
Briggs: She's a bit upset. But that day Melanie went missing, we noticed when we came back from our doctor's appointment, a bottle of sleeping pills was in the kitchen. So we think when she came by, he drugged her.
Me: Do you know how many were taken? A large dose could kill the baby!
Briggs: No, sorry man. Hopefully not too many.
I clench my hands into fists. I stood up and started pacing back and forth. Gwen and Lexis walk into the house and stop. They looks around at everyone.
Gwen: Uhh....hi.
Everyone: Hey Gwen.
Gwen: What's going on?
Me: Just an information party. So Kai bought s*x toys he used for the kidnapping prior to the kidnapping and drugged Melanie with sleeping pills.
Gwen: Are you serious?! The baby?!
Me: All we can do is hope it wasn't much.
Gwen throws her stuff on the floor. She marches to the kitchen. She starts pulling down glasses and gets a bottle of bourbon.
Gwen: Anyone else want a drink?
Leon: I will.
Me: Me too.
Lexis: Me three.
She walks over with the glasses. She sits down on the couch. We all touch glasses and all take a swig. I pour another and Leon joins me. f**k she was drugged with sleeping pills and I have no clue how many.
Leon: There is one more thing. And Lilly, please don't hate me. I promised mom and dad, but it has to be known now.
Me: What that?
Leon: Kai has a mental illness. Antisocial personality disorder or ASPD. Our parents sent him to a therapist because they thought it was due to him being abandoned.
Lilly: He seemed so normal when we adopted him.
Leon: Lilly, he used to talk to himself in a corner every night. Sometimes he would watch me sleep. Why do you think I started sleeping on the floor in your room?
Lilly: Nightmares?
Leon: He was my nightmare! Anyway, he got better. I think Melanie breaking up with him destroyed the years of therapy and that's why he lost it and is holding her hostage.
I want to tell them the news. I looked over to Gwen. I search for a sign that I can tell them we have found her and are bringing her home. She shakes her head no. Stands up and walks over to me. She pulls me into the kitchen. Lexis comes bouncing behind her.
Me: Gw--
Gwen: No.
Me: Bu--
Gwen: No.
Me : But why?
Gwen: These people are like her family and they are Kai's actual family.
Me: Ok. Your point?
Gwen: My point is, if things go south, and we have to kill him, they will know it was us. You've threatened him twice in front of Lilly already. I'm sure she'll think you're serious this time.
Me: True.
Gwen: Plus you might give away too much information.
Me: Give me more credit than that.
Lexis: So are we gonna kill him?
Me: Hopefully.
Lexis gets all giddy and starts clapping her hands. She walks away and back to the group. She squats down in front of Lilly. She is probably the most hurt out of all of them. Lexis starts speaking to her.
Me: Boy, you know how to pick em.
Gwen: I know right. She's great.
Me: Maybe go grab her before she spills too much.
Gwen: s**t! You're right.
Gwen shushes Lexis and moves her out of the way. Lexis pours another glass and slowly sips away at it.
Gwen: We may know where she is, but we don't know if Kai has her. We'll let you know as soon as we find anything out.
Lilly: Thank you.
She starts crying. She gives Gwen a hug. We walk them to the front door and say our goodbyes. Once they leave, Gwen turns to me.
Gwen: Ready to save my sister-in-law?
Me: Do you even have to ask?
Lexis: I'm so excited!
Gwen: You need to tone it down a bit!
Lexis: Make me.
I ran upstairs and grabbed the bags I packed. I tossed them in her car. I hopped on my bike and followed them. We arrived at a hotel not far from where Gwen tailed Kai that day. I grabbed the bags, and we headed straight up to the suite my dad got. When we enter the room, everything is laid out. Time to rescue Melanie.
