Bright Diamond

TIME [12:45 AM] The party finally came to an end and the guests started to take their leave. Anna left the banquet before time because she didn't want to wait till late night to go home alone. On the other side, Alex and his family were readily engaged in sending off their important guests with formal 'goodbyes' and 'let's meet soon'. Half an hour later, only Alex and his family were left inside the quiet party hall. "Mom, Jacob was with his friends and left for home fifteen minutes ago. I'll take my leave now. I have some paperwork at the office. You can go home with grandpa," Alex explained to his mother. His mother, Olivia Ellison, was a beautiful lady with fair and immaculate skin. She looked younger than her age because of her properly maintained body. It was the mark of a high socialite family. From her behavior, she was a calm, gentle, kind and low-tempered lady. "But Alex it's too late, you should come with us too," She said, behaving like the worrywart mother that she surely was. Looking at this mother-son duo, it was clear that they were very close to each other. The special soft corner in Alex's heart was completely occupied by his mother. It's not that he didn't care about his other family members, he loved them too, but he was never capable of showing any affection towards them. In the case of his mother, however, he was the perfect loving son ready to be there whenever she needed him. Olivia, who lost her husband in a car accident eighteen years ago, also had high ardour for her older son. At that darkest point in her life when her sons were just little kids, her beloved life partner left her alone. She lived in trauma for two years, but she soon chose to fight and live her life happily for her two sons. They deserved everything in the world. Alex was five and Jacob was only two years old when they lost their father. Despite being alone to nourish her kids, Olivia left no stone unturned to raise them well. "Your mother is right, grandson. You can complete the forms tomorrow," Alex's grandpa agreed with his daughter-in-law. "Okay fine," Alex gave in, "If you both are insisting, then I have no choice but to come with you," Alex agreed. And with that, the family trio left the hotel. ... On the other corner of the city... Anna reached home at 12:30 AM. She found poor Sophie handling a crazed Kayara who was still under the wicked control of alcohol. When Sophie had come home with Kayara a few hours ago, she had tried to wake her up from unconsciousness but unfortunately, her intoxication was not completely over yet. Now, Kayara was jumping on a chair, which was near the huge glass window, trying to grab something from the night sky. "Ahh…" she whined in a high pitched voice, "I'm tired, Sophie. Please help me get that bright diamond!" she cried standing on the chair with a disappointed face. "It is impossible to get the moon from the sky, Kayara," Sophie tried to explain, completely frustrated and tired. 'Oh God who told her to drink this much?' Sophie asked God in her mind, 'And why are you punishing me for that? I'm not the one who made her drink this much. Please tell her that the bright diamond is the moon. I can't take this anymore,' "Don't lie to me!" Kayara yelled at Sophie, "Nothing is impossible in the world. You don't love me. It's okay if you don't want to help me, I'll get it myself," she argued and started jumping on the chair once again to get that 'diamond'. "Okay okay, don't jump, please. You'll hurt yourself. Get down from the chair. I'll help you. Let me try," Sophie relented in order to calm her down. Seeing the drama in the living room, Anna giggled silently and Kayara's line of sight fell on the girl in the yellow dress. "Yahoo…Anna is back!" she ran to Anna and jumped on her. Anna gasped in delight as she leaned back with the impact, "You missed me?" Anna asked. "No…I was waiting for you to help me get that precious diamond." "Come with me to my room, I'll get that diamond for you." " Really? " Kayara jolted in joy. " You will get that for me?" " Yes. Now let's go to my room." Kayara nodded and Anna led her toward her room. She turned around and winked at Sophie, telling her silently that she was here to handle and share her frustration. When Anna entered her room, Sophie fell on the couch and fatigue conquered her senses. After a few minutes, she found herself in a dreamland again. She slowly fell asleep on the couch, carefree at last. ... In Anna's room, Kayara was jumping on her bed like an excited child. Before leaving the room again, Anna told her to wait for her until she returned with her diamond. Kayara nodded eagerly and decided to wait for her to come back. In five minutes, Anna entered her room with a glass of lemon juice. "Kayara, first you have to finish this if you want that diamond," Anna said in a motherly way. Without any argument, she took the glass from Anna and gulped the juice in one sip so that she would get the diamond soon. The sleeping pills that Anna had put in the juice slowly took effect and Kayara fell asleep on Anna's bed. Anna let out a slightly guilty sigh after dealing with Kayara and finally went to take a shower. After freshening up, she laid on the only sofa in her room and fell asleep.
