CHAPTER NINE
As they drove toward the business park and the Clarity Land Development site in Cooper’s snowcat, the sheriff was quiet, but he seemed tense. Sadie looked over at him, noticing the tight grip of his hands on the steering wheel.
“You’re worried about interviewing McAllister, aren’t you?” she guessed.
“Some,” the sheriff admitted. “When I said he was a major player around here, I wasn’t exaggerating. He could cause me a fair amount of trouble if he decides to.”
“I can do this by myself, Cooper,” Sadie offered. “Then you can just blame me.”
The sheriff shook his head. “No,” he said firmly. “I invited you to the second attack because I wanted your opinion. And if there is even the tiniest chance that you’re onto something here, then we can’t afford to ignore it.”
