Serena stood frozen, her heart hammering in her chest as Hart's smirk cut through the darkness. The events of the night had spiraled far beyond her control. Just moments ago, she had been reveling in a rare moment of joy, but now the weight of reality crushed her. How could this have happened? The idea of being mated to Hart Sloan—a man she despised—was unfathomable. “No,” she whispered, shaking her head as though denying the bond would make it disappear. “This can’t be happening.” Hart stepped closer, his towering presence suffocating. “You feel it too, don’t you?” he said, his deep voice resonating with authority. “The pull. The bond. You can’t deny it.” “I don’t feel anything!” Serena shot back, her voice rising in defiance. But the tremor in her words betrayed her fear. Before Hart could respond, a new scent pierced the air—a tantalizing aroma that made her heart skip a beat. Serena turned, her eyes darting around in search of the source. The pull was unmistakable, but it wasn’t Hart. Her breath hitched as two figures emerged from the shadows. Jack and Gary Sloan stepped into the moonlight, their expressions solemn yet intense. “Mate,” they growled in unison, their voices rich and commanding. Serena’s mind reeled. This couldn’t be happening. Not one, but all three of the Sloan triplets? Her body trembled as the weight of the revelation sank in. “No,” she gasped, stepping back as tears welled in her eyes. “This isn’t possible.” Jack moved closer, his gaze soft but firm. “Serena, we’re not here to hurt you. We want to protect you. Let us.” “Protect me?” she repeated, her voice laced with disbelief. “After everything your family has done to me? How can I trust you?” Gary, the gentlest of the three, raised his hands in a placating gesture. “We’re not like him, Serena. Please, just give us a chance to prove that.” Her gaze flickered between them, torn between fear and a glimmer of hope. Gary had always treated her with kindness, unlike Hart. But could she trust any of them? “I… I don’t know,” she admitted, her voice barely audible. “Take your time,” Jack said, his tone steady. “We’re not going anywhere. We just want you to be safe.” Serena’s chest tightened at their words. Safe. It was all she had ever wanted. But how could she find safety with the very people who had caused her so much pain? “I need to think,” she murmured, her voice shaky. Jack nodded, stepping back. “We’ll give you space, but remember—we’re here for you.” Gary added softly, “You don’t have to do this alone.” As their words lingered in the air, Serena turned and fled, her mind racing. When she reached the sanctuary of her room, she collapsed onto her bed, the events of the night replaying in her mind. Her heart warred with itself—one side yearning for freedom, the other clinging to the possibility of something more. But as the hours passed, clarity struck. She couldn’t stay. She couldn’t risk being bound to Hart, Jack, or even Gary. Her plan to escape had to go forward. In the dead of night, she crept through the house and into the woods, her breaths shallow and her heart pounding. The trees offered her a sense of protection as she moved further from the pack’s territory. Just as relief began to settle over her, a pair of glowing red eyes pierced the darkness. She froze, dread washing over her. “I expected this from you,” a voice drawled from the shadows. Hart stepped into the moonlight, his presence as imposing as ever. “Hart,” she whispered, fear lacing her voice. “Leave me alone.” “You can’t run from me, Serena,” he said, his tone dark and unyielding. “We’re mates. You know that as well as I do.” Her fists clenched at her sides. “I don’t want this. I don’t want you.” Hart’s smirk widened, and he took a deliberate step closer. “You don’t have a choice. The bond is stronger than your will, Serena. And if you think running will save you, think again.” Her heart sank at his words. “You can’t force me into this,” she said, her voice trembling. “Oh, but I can,” he replied, his eyes gleaming with a dangerous light. “You’re mine, Serena. But that’s not all.” Her breath hitched. “What do you mean?” Hart leaned in, his voice a low growl. “You’ll reject Jack and Gary. You can’t have all three of us. You belong to me, and me alone.” The world seemed to tilt beneath her as his words sank in. Rejecting Jack and Gary would shatter any chance of escaping Hart’s control. “You’re insane,” she spat, her voice filled with anger and fear. “I’ll never accept you.” Hart’s smirk didn’t waver. “You will, Serena. In time, you’ll see that you don’t have a choice.” As he disappeared into the shadows, Serena stood there, her chest heaving with a mix of fury and despair. She had reached a crossroads, and the path ahead was shrouded in uncertainty. Her resolve hardened. She would fight for her freedom, no matter the cost. Hart might think he held all the cards, but Serena was determined to prove him wrong.
