Ashley Williams at one side of the garden relating with her business partner even on her wedding day. Sighs, that woman is one hell of a workaholic, not leaving any moment to waste.
However, while that was going on, she saw her mother leaving the garden angry through her peripheral vision, and so she excused herself from them so she could attend to her mum.
After excusing herself from her business partners, she ran after her mum, wondering what the matter could be.
When she caught up with her mum she asked her what the problem was and why she had left the way she did. Her mum, with a heavy heart, realizing she couldn't talk about where they were, dragged Ashley into the house and went straight to her room. After confirming they were alone, her mother tearfully asked her why she got married into such a poor family when she could have had any other well-to-do man from all over the world.
Ashley understood her mother was still angry over her refusal to match her. She realized her mother was just throwing one of her tantrums, which quickly turned into a full-blown crying session.
Ashley sighed, knowing she had no other option but to try to comfort her mum and explain to her for the umpteenth time that Liam was the only one who could tolerate her spoiled attitude while helping her out with little things but still would do it willingly and not complain, unlike every other man she had met.
However, her mother wasn't listening to her, and she continued sobbing, wondering how her daughter who had lived in riches all her life would be able to cope with such a family. However, such thoughts were far-fetched because Ashley and her husband would still be living in her grandfather's house when they returned from their honeymoon in Germany.
While all of that was happening in the house, Liam, on the other hand, was in the garden. He was, lost in thought, recounting all the moments with the ‘poor intern’ that led him to this moment.
Liam remembered he had seen her nervously walking into the skyscraper on her first day like every other intern. He couldn't help but smile as he recounted that day:
Ashley stepped into the imposing skyscraper. Nervously met with the receptionist in the lobby and introduced herself as the new intern at Williams Group. She asked the receptionist for directions on how to get to her supervisor's office, and she was told to walk a little to the right. She was also told to get into an elevator, but not the first elevator, as that was reserved for the CEO and owners of the Company, being as they most times have to rush for meet-ups and meetings to avoid being delayed by the queue for the elevator, they had to make theirs separate from that of the employees.
So she was asked to get into the elevator 5 steps away from the first, and to press on the 20th floor, then once out of the elevator she, had to ask whoever she saw for directions to the office.
However, Ashley, being the rich and entitled brat that she was, couldn't even differentiate between the elevator she wasn't meant to get into, but since luck was on her side, there was no one around so she couldn't get into trouble before starting her job as an intern if anyone reported that she got into the elevator meant for the owners of the company.
You could say lady luck was on Ashley's side that day, since the first person she saw when she got out of the elevator on the 20th floor was Liam.
Liam wondered who this new lady who approached him was and why she was coming out of that particular elevator, but decided she must have mistaken it for the one she was meant to take after realizing she was a new intern and that was her first day here, so he didn't cause a scene about the elevator incident.
Liam directed her to her supervisor, Mrs Johnson’s office, which was just at the end of the corner.
Standing in front of her supervisor's office she was a mixture of nerves and excitement because all her life she had heard stories of her grandfather's exploits and business acumen, and now at 22 she was about to experience them all firsthand.
Her grandfather, the president of Williams Group, had offered her an internship position at his company after their discussion on how he would love to appoint her as the next CEO of Williams Group, but Ashley told her grandfather she didn't even know what the company was about and what they do.
To help her understand and better prepare for her position as the CEO, she got the internship position so she could study the business empire from the ground to the top-level executives, but on the condition that no one would know her true identity so she wouldn't be treated differently from others.
With those conditions accepted, she met herself standing in front of Mrs Johnson's office for her first day at work. Her grandfather had trusted her with this position, and she was determined to prove herself.
Glancing at her freshly printed ID badge which she got from the receptionist. The badge served as evidence of her employment; without it, she was just a regular person or client at Williams Group. Clutching it tightly, she knocked at her supervisor's office, ready to be completely accepted into the team and for her first task as an intern learning under the wings of Mrs Johnson.
However, what Ashley didn't know was that Mrs Johnson was a stern woman and always disapproved of things which had made her a hot gossip topic of many employees at Williams Group, even those who did not have her as their supervisor.
Mrs Johnson, forgetting she was expecting the new intern, wondered who was at the door, since most of her team members always tried to avoid confrontation with her unless it was needed, and she didn't expect anyone to walk into her office today. However, she realized the person could walk in any moment now. She quickly put herself together. Wiping her tears, she asked the person to come in.
Ashley, stepping into Mrs Johnson's office, looked around and approved of what her grandfather had done with the interior, but noted a few changes she could make just like she noticed in the lobby.
Mrs Johnson was enraged at this stranger standing in her office looking around but not sparing her a glance, so she was furious. She called her attention. Ashley, realizing her slip off, quickly turned to Mrs Johnson and apologized. She introduced herself as the new intern.
Mrs Johnson sized her up with a feeling of contempt. However, she knew she had to attend to her, so she spoke to her disdainfully.
She said "You are the new intern, so is that why you were busy looking around my office like a thief? Are you here to look for what to steal or to work" ? Ashley thought in her heart, wait till you know my identity and see if you are still as cocky. Ashley quickly noted Mrs Johnson's attitude wasn't good for the employees and would start searching for a replacement as soon as she could, since she couldn't bring in her grandfather's power yet, so she couldn't inform him of her findings yet. She can only note them for actions when she gets her position as the CEO.
However, Ashley kept all that in her heart and humbly said to Mrs Johnson," I am sorry for not paying attention when I entered, and to answer your question, Mam, I'm not a thief. I'm only here to work, but I was fascinated by how wonderful your office looked".
Mrs Johnson, still not pleased with her answer, furiously asked her to get out of her office.
Ashley ran out of Mrs Johnson's office crying. Now that Mrs Johnson had sent me out on my first day, what would I do next and how would I prove to my grandfather that I was capable of being the CEO, she thought to herself.
