I made my way down the steps, maneuvering my way through the limitless amount of people that hurriedly ran around the large house. I spotted Eze in the kitchen decorating a cake and made my way to her, “Hey Stefan.” She greeted excitingly, momentarily stopping her decoration before returning to finish.
I didn’t answer back as I raised one of my brows, looking around the busy house before turning my attention back to Eze. Eze laughed as she realized my silent question. “We just got news that the pack member I told you about will be here in just a few minutes.” She explained as she set the finished cake in the fridge.
“She must be more important than I thought if she’s making y’all react like this.” I said, looking around as I did.
“Important?” She hummed. “Not important like an alpha or a Luna but important as in family.” Her eyes held a glint of admiration as her lips curved into a faint smile.
I simply nodded my head as she made her way around the island countertop, “Cmon, her car’s about to pull up.” She said heading outside as I followed close behind.
As we made our way outside we were greeted by a large group of people huddled around a car. I followed Eze as people made way for her to easily walk through the crowd, she stopped once we were in the front and I peered over her shoulder at the car.
I watched as a beautiful girl with pale skin stepped out of the car; She had long white hair that reached her stomach even when put in a neat over the shoulder braid. I could feel my breath hitch as she looked in our direction, her eyes that showed a deep shade of purple was mesmerizing but scary.
“I’ve never seen anyone with that eye color except for the members of our pack..” Leon commented, seemingly mesmerized as well “Do you think-”
“No.” I cut him off. “That’s not possible and you know it.” He remained quiet as the girl sent a bright smile towards Eze. “I know.”
Her smile slightly fell when she noticed my expression but she was quick to fix her face as Ade made his way to her. “Hey.” He greeted her, his voice the loveliest I had ever heard it become.
He pulled her into a hug, staring down at her with a smile as they pulled apart; She looked up at him with the same expression as they both shared an unreadable look in their eyes. “Ade..” she tenderly replied as she softly stroked her thumb against the side of his face.
“Good to know my absence didn’t force you into starvation.” She teased, softly punching him in the gut and he chuckled in response.
“Well you know my mother would never allow that to happen.” He responded, leaning down to ear level and whispering something in her ear; The edge of the pale woman's lips tilted up as she gave a small laugh, slipping her slim fingers into his hand as he offered it.
“That I do.” She replied, allowing him to lead her into the house; both their hands still tightly held in the others. Ade nodded to two random warriors and they repeated the action before heading back to the black car and grabbing the woman’s luggage.
“I’m going to go check in with Bell, I’ll meet you later alright?” Eze said and I hummed in reply before watching her run off to meet Ade and the girl. I stood quietly as I watched everyone excitedly make their way back inside the packhouse.
A familiar sting in my chest made it difficult to think clearly; A million different questions fired off in my brain as I thought over the scene that had just played out in front of me, why are they so touchy? What was that look they shared? Why is acting this way with her?
The more I thought about everything the worse the feeling got. I turned back around, making my way back to the pack house as I fought the urge to text Ricky to come and get me or just shift and run home.
When I made it inside everyone was already in the huge “yard” behind the house. They call it their backyard since it’s technically behind the house but it is far too huge to be counted as one and it’s directly connected to the large woods that surrounded the area. So it’s more like a large clearing.
As I made my way into the kitchen a small smile graced my face when noticing a familiar male standing against the counter with a cup in hand. But when he noticed me approaching he quickly sat his glass down and bowed his head.
“Luna.” Zane greeted, his voice nothing but a monotoned mumble as my stomach tied itself in knots at his action. I said nothing as I stared down at the beta, he lifted his head and sighed at my lack of an answer before grabbing his cup back from off the counter.
We both looked behind me at the sound of footsteps, “You coming back out anytime soon?” The questioning voice of Kyle flooded into the kitchen, he sounded slightly excited or at least more happy than usual as he directed his question towards Zane.
For some reason seeing him happy about the mystery woman made me feel even worse than I already did.
Zane turned to me, once again bowing his head. “I hope you enjoy the party, Luna.” He said, walking past me and grabbing Kyle's hand. Kyle held his gaze on me before turning and allowing Zane to lead them back to the celebration.
I could feel a lump forming in my throat and I was quick to swallow it down as I watched them enter the yard, “Everything’s shit.” I mumbled, pouring myself a glass of water, hoping to cool the burning feeling in my chest as I drank it all in one gulp.
I glanced outside at the white-haired woman, she smiled happily as different members came and greeted her. Her smile was wide and beautiful, it created small crinkles at the corners where her lips met her cheeks making her look even more mature than before but still youthful nonetheless.
She was gorgeous and I hated it. I hated the fact that there’s a slim chance she’s Ades type, that she might be the reason he tried to reject me and still continues to.
Her eyes shine and I look to where she’s staring, jealousy exploded in my chest as I watched Ade make his way to her. His smile was as wide as hers and even more beautiful but it hurt seeing it directed towards someone who wasn’t me.
As he reached his hand out for her to grab as he finally made it to her, she playfully squinted her before softly sliding her hand into his, allowing him to guide them to the makeshift dance floor (which was really just a specific part of the yard people happened to be dancing at). People watched in adoration as the music slowed and they swayed together, occasionally whispering a joke in the other's ear and laughing together. All the while their beautiful smiles and adoring gazes never left each other.
“Complete shit.” I gritted, forcing myself to look away from them. I hummed as my eyes scanned the kitchen, landing on a large bottle of vodka; I’ve never drank alcohol before, mostly because of Ricky, but I’ve heard drinking helps you forget and right now all I want to do is forget everything.
I make my way to the bottle, pouring some into my glass and taking a huge gulp; the warm liquid burned as it cascaded down my throat making my eyes burn as I stuck my tongue out in disgust.
I gagged, turning to the sink to pour the rest out but stopping when my eyes caught onto Ade again. He was still holding Bell and my heart hurt as I watched him stare down at her. That look was definitely love, I knew it from the beginning but didn’t want to believe it but now there’s no denying it. He loves her.
Why? Why her? I’m his mate, his other half, his Luna. What could be so wrong with me that would make my own mate not want me?
I looked down at the glass with a frown, slowly walking to the island with the bottle and my glass still in hand. I placed both items down, sitting in one of the stools as I poured more into my glass.
I took slow sips of the burning liquid, occasionally glancing back to Ade and Bell. Eventually the burning feel of the liquid started to lessen but instead of my emotions doing the same they seem to heighten. I felt worse than I did before.
I cursed under my breath as I made my way to the sink, splashing my face with water as my vision started to blur a bit. I turned my head to the side, glancing behind me as I felt a looming presence.
My eyes locked onto a pair of purple ones as the star of the day stood behind me; I couldn’t help but roll my eyes at her curious expression, pushing myself off the counter as she began to give me a look over.
I steady myself with the cold island countertop, forcing myself not to lean my heating body across the surface as I made my way towards the door. Not saying a word to the pale woman as I grabbed my bag and exited the large pack house.
