Chapter 18

Alec turned out the lights as he left. The darkness enveloped us as his footstep retreated up the stairs. We both sat in shocked silence for several minutes before Casey spoke, her voice rough from crying. “I’m sorry Anna if I had known… If I had thought for even a moment..” “Even if you had thought about it, no one would believe that he would be capable of doing something like this so don’t blame yourself if you start letting him get to you then he has won and we really have no chance.” Casey didn’t reply the only sound in the dark her soft sniffles which soon gave way to deep breathing as she soon fell into a restless sleep. Liam stood in front of me, his back to me as he addressed the pack, his voice booming across those gathered as he spoke. Confused by his sudden appearance, I tried to stand. The last thing I could remember was being chained up in the cold dark room below the old factory. I had to tell him about Alec and everything else that had happened since I last saw him. But instead of standing, I fell to the ground, pulled down by something that was bound to my hands and feet. Looking down, my hands were still bound by the chains that Alec had used in the concrete room that Alec had chained Casey and me up in. The only difference being that both my hands and feet were now bound, making it near impossible to walk, let alone go to Liam. Looking up at Liam as if someone turned up the volume up on a radio, I could suddenly hear what moments ago had sounded like static. I could now hear clear as day. “This shifter has decided she is good enough to be my mate and luna. She manipulated me to make me think that smaller shifters were no different from any other type of shiter!” Anger growls erupted from the crowd at his words. “She used a witch’s spell to fool me and make me believe she is my fated mate! She thought that she could trick me and get what she wants but thanks to my brother, he helped me. He broke the spell I was under and helped me see her for who she is. Nothing.” Alec stepped away from the crowd, approaching his brother with the same insane smile as before alight on his face as he looked past Liam and down at me. “I didnt put a spell on you! I’m your mate! Liam, please!” I tried to push myself to my feet again, more desperate than before to get to Liam. Panic and fear crawled up my throat, suddenly choking me. This couldn’t be happening after everything that had happened, and that we had been through. Pushing myself up, I fought against the chains trying to break free so I could get to Liam when someone grabbed me by my hair, throwing me to the ground. Taylor stood above me, her face eager and happy as she looked down at me. “Taylor.” “I told you he would grow tired of you.” Turning on her heel, she stalked over to where Liam and Alec stood. Stopping in front of Liam, she pressed her body against Liam’s for a moment before pulling his face down to kiss her. But instead of pushing her away, Liam met my eyes as he kissed her back. Breaking the kiss, he didn’t look away as she trailed kisses down his neck and just as she started to move down he stopped her, pulling her back up, his eyes suddenly yellow. Grabbing her by the hair, he pulled her head to the side, exposing her neck. Bending forward, he pressed his lips to her neck. Baring his teeth, his eyes not leaving mine, he bit down, marking Taylor. The ground shook beneath me as explosions rocked overhead, sending dust and rocks from the ceiling to rain down on my head. “C-Casey?” Tears streamed down my face, my dream still raw in my mind. “Someone is fighting up there. If I had to guess just by the sound, it’s probably your friend Leia and the witch that Alec has working for him.” “How- How long has this been going on?” “Not long it sounded like it a car exploded in the distance when it first started and then it has just been getting closer and closer ever since.” As if in answer to her words the explosions stopped, the only sound our harsh breathing as we strained to hear anything going on above us. When the metal door screamed open once again, we both jumped, causing the chains holding us to rattle against the floor. “Anna? Casey?” having heard the noise we made, Jade’s voice called down through the darkness. “Down here!” I called as I pushed myself to my feet. “Were down here!” Jade hurried down the steps into the darkness, pausing at the bottom, feeling around on the wall till she found the light switch. As the light flooded the room again, I winced in pain, squinting against the light as Jade rushed toward Casey and I. “Are these chains!? How the hell am i supposed to get these off??” Tugging at the chains for a moment before standing up and waling around the room looking for the keys. “IF the keys were here they arent now, can’t you guys shift or something to make this a little easier?” “No.” Casey said bitterly as she glared up at Jade from where she still sat on the floor. “Dont you think if we could do that we would’ve done that by now instead of being stuck down here?” Jade turned to look at Casey, taking in her blotchy face and eyes red from crying. “What are you looking at!” Casey yelled, pushing herself to her feet glaring as she glared at Jade waiting for her to answer. “Casey.. she is just trying to help.” “Help? She wants to help!? She can’t help even if we left right now. The chances of us getting there before Liam hands over control of the pack to HIM is slim to none!” Tears were streaming as she spoke, her voice increasing in volume until she was screaming. “There is nothing you can do, and it’s all my fault.” Casey collapsed onto the floor, all the fight in her going out with a whoosh of air and tears.
