Moving In

--- POV Tobias --- I sat in one of the leather seats while Emmi sat next to me, pointing out all the clouds and laughing at the times she would fly around as Natalia. I’m sure it was strange for her to use a plane, but this is what we have, and we had luggage to bring back now that Emmi was with us. Also, showing up to school as a dragon wouldn’t be the best option. We are attending a human university after all. I tried to close my eyes and get at least some sleep while Emmi giggled softly. I’m sure she thought I couldn’t hear her, but I would be able to hear her beautiful voice anywhere. After about five minutes of her gasps and giggles, I decided against sitting in the seat to get some sleep. “You know…I’m going to sleep on the couch, you want to come with?” I asked, knowing Seth had taken the bed the minute we made it aboard. I opened one eye, and she spun around blushing bright red. “I…um well…I’ll just stay here so you have more room.” She started to fiddle with her hands, and I got up silently. I walked over to the couch and pressed a button on the wall, extending the cushions out to at least a full-sized bed. It was small and I distinctly remember it being much bigger than this. Maybe because the last time I slept on the couch, I was nine. Either way, I walked up to her and held out my hand. “I don’t want more room.” I added shortly, and she looked up at me again. Slipping her hand in mine, I gently pulled her out of the seat and walked over to the couch. I laid down and pulled her on the seat next to me. She was rigid for a moment, so I pulled her into my chest and adjusted my body accordingly. Once I rested one arm over her body, I slipped one underneath her head as a pillow for her. Then, I started to nod off again. In seconds, I was asleep. ---POV Emilia--- Screaming in my head doesn’t even cover it. How in the world am I supposed to sleep now? “He’s so warm.” My dragon hummed and I whimpered as my cheeks reddened. “If you could stop that, that would be greatly appreciated.” I begged Nataila, trying to hide my embarrassment. His arms shifted around my torso, and I immediately regretted my choice of clothing. I was wearing a long sleeve crop top with black leggings because I wanted to be comfortable. Now I can feel his skin on my tummy, and it made my whole body tingle. I shifted my head a bit to see if he was affected at all and what I found was even better. His sleeping face. I glanced around the cabin and noticed a blanket and a couple of pillows at the far end of the space. I took a deep breath and wriggled out one of my arms. Once I held my arm in the air, small intricately designed tattoos glowed on my arms and the pillow and blanket started to float our way. Levitation magic was apparently the first thing I learned as a small child. My parents were elated, and I started my training in magic at the age of three. The youngest dragon to pass all her lessons and become a mage at seventeen. After that, I worked in healing magic and training on the battlefield instead of going to a university. I was bullied the majority of my time in regular school because of how shy I was. Saph and Quil went to a different school because they were younger than me and Seth and Tobias were abroad, so…I was alone most of the time. I absolutely hated it. I decided I was done when I completed high school. It just wasn’t worth it after a certain point. I flicked my arm and the blanket landed over us while his shoes were peeking out of the bottom. It made me smirk. Then I carefully put the pillow under his head. He shifted a bit, but he stayed asleep. I turned my body towards his and just watched in awe. The infamous Ice King looks so gentle and sweet when he’s asleep. I know he didn’t have a rough childhood or anything to make him the way he is, but he always felt a sense of responsibility for his siblings, so I don’t think he actually had a childhood…. “Kind of like us?” Natalia said. I winced, but it was the truth. Both of us showed extraordinary power at such a young age. From then on, it was either school, testing, or training. Aside from physical training, I’m surprised Seth wasn’t dragged along with him, but knowing Tobias, he probably told them that he would take on the responsibility, so Seth didn’t have to. I yawned and shook my head. Maybe I was tired. I didn’t really sleep too well last night when I realized it was the last time I would stay at the castle. When having a mate actually sunk in. I hesitated for a moment, trying not to touch him too much, then sighed, giving up. He’s my mate. It’s not like I’m doing anything wrong. I snuggled up next to him and closed my eyes, finding sleep faster than I have in years. --- POV Tobias --- I sighed and shifted my weight, realizing I wasn’t alone and there was something on top of me. My eyes shot open, and I looked down to reveal my Emmi and a blanket resting over us. I’m sure she brought it over here once I went to sleep. I was told she is a rather extraordinary mage from Saph. I’m sure she didn’t move while I was asleep, so she must have used her magic. She snuggled into my chest and was sound asleep. I smirked as the plane landed. I tensed my muscles to make sure she was safely secure when the wheels hit the tarmac. Then I realized I had eyes on me. I looked up to see Seth grinning from ear to ear. “I can’t wait for that to be me someday.” He said, chuckling dryly. “How long have you been there?” I asked in a hushed tone. “Long enough to see how strong a mate bond can be.” He sighed and folded his arms. “You know, when I see our parents, aunts and uncles, or their friends, I always thought that it came with time, you know. Then I see you two and I’m like…well you both are childhood friends. But not even six months ago, Little Gem told me Emmi still hated you for leaving and now she’s resting in your arms like nothing ever happened.” I grit my teeth. “Yeah. I know I have some making up to do.” Seth scoffed and looked out the window. “Just you wait until she really gets to know you. Not as her protector or as Sapphire’s older brother, but as Tobias. The real Tobias. I can't wait to see her reaction then...Ice King.” I growled lowly. “And what’s that supposed to mean?” “Nothing. It will be an eye opener though. I’m sure my mate will feel the same when she realizes my...persona as well.” He stood from the chair once the plane came to a stop and grabbed a small duffle sitting next to him. “Don’t think too much about it now. Just enjoy the honeymoon stage, brother.” The sealed door popped open, and I heard the staircase being pushed up to the doorway. Seth nodded my way and headed off the plane. “Emmi…wake up. We’re here.” I said softly, but nothing came of it. She shifted a bit and continued to sleep. I guess she was exhausted. I shifted my body from under hers and grabbed my backpack. Once it was securely on, I picked her up and gently carried her down the stairs. When I made it to the tarmac, Sam was there. He bowed slightly and looked between Emmi and I before clearing his throat. “Sir.” “Hello Sam. Go get her bags.” I said shortly before heading to our SUV. I shifted her body again and opened the door. Slipping onto the seat, I let her rest on my chest. My backpack was uncomfortable, but I didn’t want to risk waking her. Sam put her suitcases in the trunk and Seth continued typing on his phone. When we made it back to the penthouse, I decided to just let her sleep. I rested her in the newly furnished room and took the time to put all of her suitcases in there before heading to my office. “Sir?” I heard from the door once I finally situated myself in front of my computer and piling workload from the weekend at home and finalizing school projects. I looked up after sending out an email and sighed. Seth slipped in and plopped himself in front of his desk as well. We both had a lot of work to do. “Yes, Sam.” “I’m assuming that’s her?” He said softly and I nodded. “Lovely young lady. Would you like me to have some breakfast ready for her in the morning? I can stay around a bit longer since it’s already four a.m.” I nodded and looked down at some paperwork. “That sounds like a plan.” He cleared his throat and disappeared, leaving a closed door in his wake. I sighed and rubbed my face as I remembered Seth's words. Maybe he was right. Emmi doesn’t know us that well and it’s not like we are the same kids as we were when we were children. Maybe the real me might just break her expectations of me in two. “Well then, I guess we should get it over with sooner rather than later. There is no use pretending to be something we are not.” Adir commented and…and I agreed with him.
