For The Love Of The Magic Infant
“We regret to inform you of the state of your child.” I was still not fully aware when I overheard one of the midwives make an apology. Is Asmara still me? You are familiar with the feeling after giving birth. I watched her lips as she carried on talking.
“The child is a blessing from the world of the mystical. Your husband has been notified. He is on his way here.”
“Is there a possibility of arrival? What should he do about the child? I informed him about an upcoming child. He is aware of all the knowledge but refuses to acknowledge that the divine entity has granted him a child through me.” I heard myself responding to the conversation we were having.
I could observe how they gazed in my direction. Sana, one of them, delivered my child after I carried it for fifteen months. I felt proud when I was handed him to hold. I fought until I managed to perch on the bed, cradling my unusual child.
While embracing him tightly, I sensed the burden of my own anxieties and hesitations. The unknown outcome of his destiny is overshadowing my constant affection for the child. However, deep down, I was aware that my affection for the baby was greater than anything else.
“You are called Karin.” I had succeeded in opening up my heart to give love to my child.
“He has arrived. Should we invite him over?” I admired the birthing specialist who inquired. I have not authorized them to let my husband enter. Disregarding the request for approval to allow my husband entry, I planted a soft kiss on Karin’s forehead. Tracing his face’s delicate features with my fingers. Looking into his eyes, I noticed a blend of fear and curiosity, mirroring the inner turmoil I was experiencing. With a quiet promise to keep him safe, no matter what it takes, I prepared myself for the upcoming journey.
Anasazi came into the room in a manner that frightened the midwives and made them leave. I found myself gazing at his face resembling that of a lion. His eyes were fixed on the child, who seemed to resemble a winged human figure with a breathtakingly stunning appearance.
“I didn’t trust you when you informed me about the sacred encounter. I require someone to inherit my position of power. Instead, I am bestowed with the winged human by the gods.” I could perceive the anger in his gleaming eyes as he complained to the deities. His eyes remained locked on the child.
“Feel free to accuse me of engaging in a******y with supernatural beings. I would never engage in such behavior with a person. I beg you to allow my child to survive. My plea only served to fuel his fury even more.” That was my only response which fueled him to more anguish.
" I will gather the older individuals to make a decision regarding this being. This creature is not a heavenly being, but a being from another planet.” Having shared a myth involving the elders deciding on my child’s fate, I thawed the ice that had enveloped me.
“Your actions should demonstrate your love for your wife, not your resentment towards the innocent child.” I reprimanded Anasazi fearlessly. He faced me and spoke as he opened the door in preparation to depart.
“This baby does not belong to our human community. He comes from the lineage of Xendari. The ongoing danger and near adversary to us. You will have no choice but to send him back to his otherworldly father.” His command shattered my world. Where can I find this Xendari that he mentioned? I held my child longer than a typical pregnancy duration. I was aware that he came from a supernatural lineage. Where on earth is Xendari that he is referring to?
I was out of breath and unable to shout. I noticed how he gazed at me, anticipating my reply. Instead, my magical baby filled me with adoration. A magical creature with extraordinary abilities. I witnessed the expression of complete amazement in his eyes when he realized the full range of his abilities. The manner in which he would examine every new form with a respect that seemed beyond his years. Continued embracing my infant son, Karin, tightly, feeling his tiny body shake against mine. The imminent doom of our exile loomed over us, creating a tense atmosphere that felt almost suffocating. The familiar sights and sounds of our home world faded as we were forced to embrace the uncertainty of the distant planet now serving as our new home.
Noticing my lack of reply, he left, but the midwives came in shortly after, as if they were bringing positive news.
“I am excited to join you on your journey into the realm of fairies and aliens.” One of the thoughtful midwives, Sana, spoke while they encircled me.
“I have no plans to leave. Anasazi will simply separate from me without pushing me into an unfamiliar world.” I responded, but they exchanged glances as if they were timid with apprehension. I was curious about why they kept looking at Karin.
I observed his hair and noticed how quickly it was growing as I held him. His face continually glows with distinct colors. I knew I needed to share the complete story with them, especially with Sana, who has shown her love for my child just like I have.
“I have something to tell you.” They looked at me when I told them to. Sana attempted to lift the baby to play with him, but she was unable to pick him up. No matter how many attempts I made, I couldn’t successfully hand the child over to her.
“I am not allowed to pick up the child. Forgive me for my enthusiasm for the child.” After multiple failed attempts, she finally conceded that she had no right to keep the child.
“It’s fine. I will share the secret with you,” I declared as I started my story. “I was dreaming when I experienced a divine visitation from the alpha. It is a fact that the different kingdoms in the universe have a variety of taboos.” Their attention seemed mixed with shame, almost like they pitied me. Just as I was going to continue with my story, Anasazi and two older individuals came into the birthing room. The midwives remained frightened and left.
I, too, felt afraid and wanted to flee alongside them from the faces resembling lions. My husband wore a cruel mask that showed no compassion, making me feel like I had been impregnated by his foes. I could detect envy-filled hatred in his heart. I didn’t invite the alpha into my dream bed for intimate relations. I am unsure why Anasazi refused to comprehend.
When they stood in front of me, a shining light came out of Karin’s eyes and blinded the two elders. I observed how they rubbed their eyes in an attempt to regain their vision.
“He had inflicted blindness upon us with his curse. He needs to be expelled.” I witnessed them shouting while finding their way to the door as my child giggled. The incident caught me off guard, while Anasazi was filled with dread.
“You are summoned to the council meeting. The child must be returned to his possessions before the Xendarians invade the humans.” I hoped he could explain his words because they were confusing. After successfully moving the child to the edge of the bed, I leaped out of bed. I collapsed on the floor because of feeling lightheaded from giving birth. I sensed a mist of fog surrounding me. I became stronger and was able to stand again.
“Please let us have an opportunity. I have never been unfaithful to you, you know. If the alpha is at fault, not the child, then that’s who should be blamed if I ever did it.” The surprise was evident on his face. He would alternate his gaze between me and Karin. He felt afraid as the two elders he had brought with him hoped to restore their vision and see clearly once more.
“Allow your child without a name to reclaim their vision.” After hearing Anasazi’s plea, I looked towards Karin. Truly, as though he was listening to me. A beam of light emanated from his eyes and hit the two elders directly in their eyes. They started to regain their vision.
“I have regained my vision.” Jog…. I listened to their cheerful shouts, then quickly opened the door and dashed out of the room.
“We hold a miraculous infant close to our hearts!” I could hear them shouting as they hurried out of the palace. The midwives came into the room believing Anasazi had departed with two of his elders. They were filled with fear when they saw his disgraceful appearance.
“Ladies, please come inside. Don’t be afraid to speak up. The child and mother require your help.” He spoke with a genuine smile on his face. They did enter and interact with the child. Karin began to develop as the midwives continued interacting with him. The bubbles of never-ending light that emanated from Karin’s mouth were adored by them. This child was exceptional.
“This child poses a danger. No one will be able to withstand the power of his magic spell. Observe his transformation from a human to a winged being. See how he deceived the senior citizens. I will not choose him to be my successor on the throne. We do not want him in our kingdom.” I began to cry, tears streaming down my face. I experienced intense pain from carrying the child in my womb for nearly fifteen months. I allowed him to leave. I observed him leave the room, but I have no idea what he was doing. It was clear that he was plotting to murder my child.
“I possess a cave in the southern region where you could safeguard this magical child and witness his development. We are getting away.” I questioned the identity of the voice that spoke from behind me. I spun in circles as I watched the midwives interacting with the child.
“Mom… How did you manage to enter this place?” I was amazed to see that it was my mother, Tigris, who came in despite the closed doors. I could see that Karin had used some kind of magic to make her appear. She was unable to reply but kept me in her hug. I cried uncontrollably in her embrace, just like an infant.
“Forever, you will remain my offspring. I will always take care of you. I cannot explain my presence here, but I can sense the pain in your heart. The supernatural beings carried me to where you are.” I comprehended her explanation. We needed to hurry to reach the cave she mentioned. But how do we arrive at that destination?
“It’s time to go before my husband returns.” Some of the midwives appeared tentative about accompanying me. I was met with a surprised expression from them.
“I am prepared to work as your housekeeper.” Abby expressed her willingness to help me. She carried the child to my mom for her to hold. The remaining midwives hurried out of the room as if they were rushing to inform my husband of my leaving. Sana has demonstrated to me that she is a person I can trust and rely on. Abby also joined her in serving me.
We clung to each other as the black cloud transported us from the room to the cave mentioned by my mother.
