CHAPTER 1 ( THE BEGINNING)
I and Grey got there in less than an hour, immediately I ran to her room and paused at the door entrance before I walked in and sat on the bed slowly, I felt my entire world crumble right in front of me. Nana placed her hands on my cheek as she held my hand and told me she'd be fine. I couldn't control my emotions, tears flowed down my cheeks, because I knew for sure that this time, it was a lie. Nurse Riley placed her right hand on my shoulder and told me that she was stable. Nana, for the first time, asked to see Grey's parents, for it would be a fulfilment and reassurance that she didn't fail as a parent. I told Grey, and he then stepped out to speak with his parents on the phone, and they agreed to see Nana. In less than two hours, Mr George Williams and his wife, Mrs Samantha Williams, arrived at Nana's house. They came in to greet Nana, but as soon as Mr George and Nana set eyes on each other, there was a sudden pause, we were all confused until Mr George stormed out saying “no, no, no” it looked like he was in regret. Nana burst out in tears, she cried bitterly. Grey and his mom went out to find out why Mr George left that way, while I sat beside Nana and consoled her. I asked Nana why she reacted like that when she saw Mr George, she looked at me with a deep stare that had sorrow written all over it…………………… (1 year ago) I kept on crying helplessly as I ran after the gurney that Nana was on, we ran through the passage of the hospital, they rushed Nana into the emergency ward, just when I was about to enter, I was held by some other nurses, I was helpless and reckless, because if Nana died, then my whole world would die with her. After many hours, the doctor finally came out of the ward, immediately I stood up from where I sat down and asked “what about Nana? How is she? Is she fine?) the doctor told me to calm down “there is good news and bad news, which do you want to hear first” he said, out of curiosity I told him to just say anything, he said “firstly, the good news is that Nana is alive, the had news is that Nana developed cancer of the lungs, which needed to be treated immediately, she would be needing a donor and it would cost approximately $3000” where was I supposed to get that kind of money from, I thought. Nana was given pills that would only stabilize her system for a while; she really needed the transplant, and the waitress job that I did would not even pay half of the hospital bills. Just within the twinkle of an eye, and it was already dawn. I took my bath, cooked for Nana, and left for work. I really had to work 3 times more just so I could pay Nana's medical bills. As I cleaned the tables, I kept on thinking of what other work I could do to raise the money in time. I was carried away by the thought of Nana when the jug I held slipped from my hand and broke, “f**k it, now I have to pay for this one too” I said as I swept the broken glass away from the floor, then I thought again, maybe I should apply for the chef position, but I'm not even half as good as the chef is, but I still had to try, so I told my boss and she said that the space wasn't vacant. I then shared my problem with her; she said she would let me know if there were any other job opportunities I could take. I had less than 5 months to get the money, so I decided to take a cleaning job in two different schools. The pay was still not enough, but at least it was a good start. I got home on a Friday night, feeling very tired. I walked across our small sitting area, and then I got to Nana's room entrance. I just stood there and watched her sleep peacefully as a tear rolled down my cheek. I immediately cleaned it and told myself that I wouldn't give up on her. I left there for my room, I threw myself on the bed recklessly, and just when I was dozing off, there was a loud knock on the door. Grey's pov : “You don't have any sense of responsibility, always taking everything inserious, this is why I wouldn't hand over my company and properties to you,” he kept on talking and talking till I got tired and left the house out of annoyance. I picked up my phone to call Lillian, “Hey, are you home? I need a place to stay for a while”. She said I should come, and she was free. I got to her place, and the door was open. I called her name to know where she was, but she wasn't answering. I walked into the kitchen to check if she was there, but she wasn't. Instead, I was welcomed by the shocking appearance of the kitchen, there was broken glass everywhere, a knife with blood on it, and blood all over the kitchen counter. Out of fear, I immediately ran upstairs, as I kept on calling her name. I opened her room door, and there she was lying seductively on the bed, which was decorated with petals. There were candles lit up and placed on the 2 bedside drawers, she had a glass of wine with her. “ What the f**k was that” I said, she laughed softly as she stood up from the bed and told me that it was just a little prank. “Just a little prank? The broken glass? The knife and the blood, all of that was just a prank?” “Babe, it was just a joke, I didn't mean to scare you,” she said with a smirk on her face as she moved closer. She put my hands around her waist while she placed her hands on my shoulders and planted a soft kiss on my lips. This was exactly what I needed, I thought. I was enjoying her being in control of the moment, but at the same time, my ego wouldn't let me be sexually controlled by a woman. So I took over, and I started to kiss her passionately. I kissed her on the wall, then I carried her to the bed, laid her down, and lay on her, then I started to kiss her slowly from her lips to her neck, and then to her belly button. I went lower. When I got to her v****a, she let out a soft moan, I could tell she was enjoying the moment. Just then, the doorbell rang, “Argh, why does this always happen?” I said. She went downstairs to check who it was while I waited in the room, but she didn't come back quickly, so I went to check who it was myself, it was one of my dad's workers. He was sent to pick me up. I was sent to pick you up for the family function tonight. “s**t, I forgot. I have to go now,” I said. We left, and I got ready for the night. If there was anything that I hated, it was surely family gatherings, where everyone had to put on fake characters and act so unreal. Mostly, it ended up in arguments. By 6, the house was full already, everyone had arrived. We were all sitting at the table when my uncle asked about who I was with, as I knew that only then would I be the legal owner of the Williams empire. I almost choked on my food when I heard his question; I was stuttering, and I didn't even know what to say. My dad cut in and said, “Don't even think of that slut cause she's not welcomed to this family, “ dad ....” He said if I wasn't going to be serious with my life, he was going to hand it over to my cousin. The gathering ended in silence, as everyone was surprised by what my father said. I couldn't let that happen, I mean, he isn't even a son of Williams. I called Jayden to meet me at our usual spot in the next 15 minutes. We met at the bar, and I immediately went straight to what I came for: “I need a wife,” I said. He laughed hard and said, “Would you like to pick it up at the mall on our way home?” “You don't have to be sarcastic about it, and I'm serious, by the way, cause if I don't, he is going to hand over the Williams empire to my cousin, and I don't want that to happen.” “Wow, bro, that's f****d up” “I know, that's why I called you so we can do something about it” he went silent for a minute, he then snapped out and said “why don't we buy the wife, like why don't we pay someone to do it, so you'd seem responsible to your father, gain his trust and; his properties, then you can file a divorce a year later” his plan made sense and I was going to do it. He arranged the whole thing for me, including the ladies who were going to compete for the contract. He was a friend indeed.
