Chapter 4

Ruby, Vince, and Aaron stood in front of Miguel and Michael. The two looked at each other, didn’t say a word. “umm..” Miguel couldn’t say a word. “The other players already left.” Michael told them, looking at Aaron and giving him a look. Aaron already realized what Michael meant. “Y-yeah, Allen actually asked the players a while ago if we want to eat here. I just excused myself since I’ll be going with you.” Aaron told Ruby and Vince. Michael secretly smiled. Aaron is his closest friend in the team and he knew about him and Miguel. “I see.” Vince replied. “Thank God you two are not fighting here. Michael looked at Miguel and he saw him being shy about what the conversation was all about. He found it cute and smiled. “Ow-kay..” Ruby said. “We’re just here to take out some food and notice you guys. Oh well, we have to go. See you tomorrow!” Ruby told them. Michael exchanged looks with Aaron which he understands right away. “Hey, say something. They’re already gone.” Michael told Miguel. Miguel just gave him a smile. “I know. I just… I’m just too shy to say something.” Miguel replied. Michael held his hand and told him that everything’s gonna be okay and he shouldn’t be overthinking too much. They finished eating their food and headed home. As expected, Michael drove Miguel home. They’re already in front of Miguel’s house but still inside the car. “Are you okay? You’ve been so quiet since a while ago.” Michael told him. Miguel just let out a deep sigh. “I’m just nervous for tomorrow’s game. A freshman who’s the main setter, orchestrating the pace of our team.” Miguel replied. Michael held his hand and made their foreheads touch each other. “Close your eyes.” Michael told him. He’s holding Miguel’s hand, their foreheads touching each other, while their eyes are closed. “Think of the things bothering you. Think of the things that make you nervous.” I’ll take it away from you.” Miguel smiled. Those words from his man made him happy, comfortable, and safe. He remembered the first time they met. It was that one summer, in a volleyball camp where he was invited. He was a senior high school way back then. He’s running towards the gymnasium for the camp’s about to start. He accidentally bumped into someone at the registration area. It was Michael. He immediately apologized to Michael but Michael didn’t even say a word. He just looked at Miguel for a few seconds and left him. And since then, they always see each other, accidentally, in all events, matches, and places they’ve been invited. Being two of the top recruited high school students, they’re always meant to see each other. And now here they are, holding each other’s hand. Miguel never thought that they would become lovers. Miguel felt genuine happiness that made his tears fall down. Michael has always been there for him. He’s always been there to save him, to cheer him up, to love him. Michael realized that Miguel was crying. He wiped his tears and looked him in the eyes. “Why are you crying babe?” Michael asked. Miguel just smiled at him. “Nothing, I’m just happy.” he smiled at him and did something unexpected. He kissed Michael on the lips. It’s just a smack but full of emotions. It’s their first, which made Michael surprised. He never kissed Miguel on the lips, cause he has a very high respect for Miguel. He would ask permission if he would like, but doesn’t have the courage to. Michael couldn’t react to what just happened. It’s like his body was electrocuted. He’s not mad, he’s overjoyed. He just can’t react. Before he could say or do anything, Miguel already got out of the car. “Miggy! Come back here! Oh my g- babeeee!” He yelled but Miguel just laughed at him. And waved. “See you tomorrow! Just be careful on your way home, okay?” Miguel added and went inside. Michael still was in shock, but eventually he smiled. That was their first kiss. It was soft. It was genuine. It is full of love. Michael couldn’t contain himself and shouted inside the car. He paused for a moment and couldn’t contain himself. He started the car and happily drove on his way home. Miguel, on the other hand, is standing behind the door of this room. He’s holding his lips. He didn’t imagine he could do that, that he would initiate that first move. That’s their first kiss. Suddenly his phone beeps. It was a text message from Michael. He immediately smiled after seeing that name popped out of the screen. “You made me happy, babe. See you tomorrow! I love you!” Miguel startled after he heard a knock on his door. “Honey, I heard a car just left. Are you there? Have you eaten already?” his mom asked. Miguel opened the door and hugged his mother. “Why? Is there a problem?” his mother asked him again. Miguel shook his head while hugging his mother. “Nothing, mom. I’m just happy.” Miguel said. “Hmm.. was it because of that lucky one your brother is talking about? When will I meet this one?” Rhea asked his son. Miguel smiled at her. “Soon, very soon.” Miguel told her. His mother pinch him on the cheeks and smiled. “I’ll be expecting that.” she replied. “Oh! By the way, I have a feeling that you already have your dinner outside. But in case you’re still hungry, I prepared food downstairs. Also, I will not be able to drop you to school tomorrow. Sadly I also cannot watch your game. Your dad needs me in our family business and I’ll be leaving tomorrow.” “Yeah, I know. You already said that to Michael.” Miguel told himself. “I already asked your Kuya Janus if he’ll be home tomorrow, but he’ll be home in two days. So I asked your friend to accompany you here for the meantime.” his mother told him. “You mean, Michael?” Miguel asked his mother, even though he already knows the answer.“ He already mentioned it to me, mom.” “Yes. Since I already trust him for being your teammate, friend, and classmate. Plus, your Kuya Janus also recommended him as well. He told me to talk to Michael to ask him if he could stay with you.” Miguel answered with a smile. They talked about some few more things before his mom went back to her own room. Miguel took a half bath first before going to bed. He then realized he forgot to reply to Michael’s message a while ago. “Sorry babe, I wasn’t able to reply. Mom and I had a conversation and I just only had a chance to hold my phone at this moment. I know you’re already asleep by now. Good night. See you tomorrow. ILY”
