When I Grow Up, I Wanna Be Mrs. San Gabriel

Chapter 3

It’s almost 12 noon, just a normal day at the university. Some students already took their lunch at the school’s cafeteria. Miguel and his friends are already eating around the table.

“Tomorrow is game 1 of the finals. Don’t worry guys, we’re gonna be all out supporting you.” Vince told Miguel and Aaron.

“Thanks, very much appreciated.” Miguel genuinely replied, as he saw a group of guys approaching their way. It’s some of the volleyball team players: Allen - their captain, Jim - one of their Middles, Ced - their backup setter, and Michael. They’re heading towards Miguel’s direction.

“Mind if we join you, guys? Sorry, the cafeteria doesn’t have vacant seats anymore.” Allen asked them, which they all agreed. They now arrange themselves in the vacant seats, with Miguel seated next to Michael. The people in the table are very much aware that the two didn’t always get along, especially their teammates.

“Okay, maybe let’s continue eating.” Jim said, clearing the dead air as everyone noticed the two were seated together.

*ehem*

Allen coughs a little, then throws a look at the two.

“By the way, gather in the gymnasium at exactly 2:30 pm, you’ll be excused in your classes if there’s any. We need to discuss tomorrow’s match.” Allen added to the conversation.

“Can we watch your training? Our classes will end at 3.” Ruby asked him.

“Umm yeah, I think. Though there isn’t that much training happening later. We shouldn’t be that tired tomorrow.” Allen replied.

“You freshmen don’t have many things to do right? How lucky!” Jim added, him and Allen are the only seniors in the table, Cedric being a 3rd year, and the three (Miguel, Aaron and Michael) are rookies.

“Don’t drink that.” Everyone stopped as Michael grabbed the drink Miguel was about to drink. “Uhh.. I.. I want your drink, let’s switch drinks”

Everyone was worried for a moment, thinking the two freshmen will fight over a drink. Allen just laughed quietly, realizing what happened.

“umm… okay?” Miguel agreed and took Michael’s drink. Michael just looked at him and his drink. Miguel realized what happened. Everyone continued eating their lunch and went back to their classes.

The volleyball varsity team of the school are currently having a meeting in preparation for their game tomorrow. They just finished doing some drills and plays that they think will be useful to win tomorrow.

“Okay guys! Water break!” their coach yelled. The players went to the bench to drink. And they noticed something, the two other players, Miguel and Michael, are still doing some drills.

Michael is spiking the ball (hard) towards Miguel, and Miguel perfectly digs the ball back to Michael, doing the drill repeatedly. Everyone is watching them, for they know the two didn’t always get along, which made them confused when Allen told them that the two will be partners in the drill.

“Take this!” Michael hit the ball harder, but Miguel effortlessly dug it back to him. Michael continued giving him hard hits, and then Miguel fell into the floor, breathing heavily.

“Okay, enough. I’ll catch my breath first.” Miguel told him. Michael laughed a little and was about to help Miguel get up when he immediately realized that the other players were watching them. So he went to get the ball instead.

After the water break, Coach Justine came back from the volleyball quarters, and was discussing things to them. Miguel’s friend already went home, it’s almost 6 pm.

“We just need to stick to our plan, and play defense. That’s our biggest advantage.” the coach said.

“That’s right guys. Whenever we have a good first ball, Miggy can set the ball to anyone easily, giving us a better opportunity to score a point.” Allen added.

“Yes coach!”

“Miguel, if the first ball is perfect, set the ball to Michael. Feed him with your sets. He’s the best spiker of our team.” coach told Miguel. Miguel looked at Michael and rolled his eyes a little.

“Yes coach.”

They have discussed a few more things before ending the training. After taking a shower at the lockers, the players went home one by one. Miguel was already walking outside the gymnasium when someone hugged him from behind.

“Let’s go home, babe.”

“Hey! Someone might see us!” Miguel told him.

“Just kidding. Are you hungry? Let’s go eat somewhere.” the guy told Miguel.

“I am about to tell you that. Where do you wanna eat?” Miguel asked him. The guy just smiled at him.

“You really like their fries, do you?” Miguel happily asked the guy. They went to a fastfood chain, wherein his date ordered a bucket of fries. The guy clapped his hands when the order came. Miguel just laughed at him.

“Do that again! You’re so cute! I’ll take a picture of you.” Miguel happily said. The guy placed his hands on his cheeks and smiled. Miguel happily took pictures of him.

“You can eat all of that?” Miguel asked him.

“Yes! Don’t worry, I will not get fat, you know that I’ll easily burn these in the training.”

“Silly!” Miguel replied. The two happily eat their food.

“Wait, by the way your mom told me earlier that she will be having a trip tomorrow. If I am not mistaken, she’ll accompany your dad in your business.” The guy told him.

“How come I didn’t know about that? Mom told you that?”

“Yes, she told me earlier. Actually she asked me to stay with you in your house. Remember, your brother is also not home so you will be alone.” the guy said. Miguel agreed because he doesn’t want to be left alone either.

“I hope my mother will not think about us differently. You silly boy!” Miguel added. “You and mom easily get along huh?”

“Of course! I’m his son’s boyfriend.” the guy happily said.

The two are still having conversations when someone went their way.

“Miguel? Michael? What are you two doing here?”
