Chapter Twenty-Four

The eggs and bacon Montgomery cooked were simple, but delicious. My dad, being the over-protective father that he was, grilled Montgomery the whole time the four of us ate. He asked Montgomery question after question. Some questions were as simple as when his birthday was. His birthday happened to be exactly one month after mine, although we were born in different years. He said he would be turning 32 in September, and I will be turning 27 in August. Other questions were a little more complex. Questions like why was he sent away to live with his mother's parents when he was little, and how did Montgomery never realize what his dad and brother were really doing. I stopped focusing on shoveling the food into my mouth, and focused on Montgomery when my dad asked that question.  Montgomery h
