Tobias POV
It took longer than expected, so when Harry eventually showed up I was bored! I have gone through everything I know several times. Seth has reminded me of details here and there. When we walk out to leave the cells we are met by Lucas and what I assume is Jacob in the narrow corridor, the Alpha's brother. They are both towering over me. Lucas does not even pretend that I exist, in a way it is better than that he hates me. I never wanted this to happen to Sofia or River. As they approach us I move out of the way and walk behind Harry. I'm tall but not nearly as strong as them, and I don't want to get in their way. The time with Hugo has made me resilient. But not physically strong, not compared to others of my kind. We walk out and up to two sets of stairs before reaching an open office space. Once in one of the private offices, I'm introduced to Mr. Lee. He is responsible for the investigation and seems to be a calm and collected man. We sit down in a cramped room filled with bocks, binders, and paper everywhere, Harry sits beside me. I rub my hands a bit anxiously over my face before taking a deep breath.
"So, Tobias! What's your surname?" Mr. Lee wonders.
"I don’t know", I answer honestly. Mr. Lee hums thoughtfully and notes something in his papers. He starts a tape recorder, a little old-fashioned isn't it? Then he starts by noting the date, time, and who is present before he turns to me again.
"So, tell me all about you!" he says quickly and looks at me with interested eyes.
I cleared my throat, "can you tell me how Sofia is first?" I ask, looking from Mr. Lee to the Beta.
"She is fine under the circumstances, she is shocked after everything that has happened. She is currently resting in the hospital!" answers Mr. Lee. "She took the news of her family's death hard, but that's understandable..."
His words become murky as if he were speaking underwater. Everything sounds so far away. They are dead? He killed them. She has protected them to no avail. He has used them against her all this time. And everything has been empty threats. He would never have been able to go back after her real sister because she no longer existed.
"You can't leave her alone!" I reel out with my heart in my throat.
"Oh, why is that?" Harry the beta asks, looking up with concern.
"Everything she has done, she has done to protect others. Her family, the other girls. If she has nothing left, I'm afraid she's going to give up!" I tell them seriously. Harry nods thoughtfully, his eyes become cloudy while he links someone. An ability I have never accomplished. A sting of envy enters my heart.
I rub my face with both hands and sigh in relief. She's alive, she's okay. And they will watch over her. I take my hands down and nod.
"thank you!" I say before I finally start telling my story.
The memories of my family are inconclusive. I can't remember my father at all, and barely my mother. I believe she was nice. She had nice eyes. I don't think that she was the one to sell me, I only remember being purchased. Hugo was a mean man from the start. He struck us and starved us. Tina stopped crying after a week, it was no use. We adapted, and survived. We had each other! He used us as children to lure women away in public places. When they were helping us, two lost children, he took them and then sold them. I tell them about the auction, where he sold Tina. I just didn't know it then and there. I wasn't allowed to go with them. He took Tina in with the others and came back alone. She was eight at the time.
After that, I started to steal money and other things from the victims. I planned to buy Tina back in secret. Every time at the market I asked around after her but I never found her. Arthur sold me out to Hugo, telling him about my search. Hugo took my money but didn't find the phone. Arthur got his first wife for free as a thank you, and I couldn't walk for a week.
I tell them about all the dealers I know, what they sell, and some things I'm only guessing.
After a while, Mr. Lee clears his throat "excuse me Tobias for interrupting you. But what do you know about the Auroras?" He asks.
"They are an order of witches, Why?"
"Do you have more details?"
"They are known to expect the dark dawn, I think that they think they will rule over the supernaturals when the dawn comes. I'm not sure how. They collect persons of every kind, in preparation for the dawn. They are often at the auction. They bought Mia, the girl Sarah saved. Why?"
"Why do they collect people?" Harry the beta asks, puzzled.
"I have understood it to be a sacrifice. Seven females and seven males of every kind. If the sacrifice is done at the winter solstice the dark dawn will begin. At least that's what I've heard." I tell them looking from one to another.
"Do you mean that an order of witches are collecting fourteen of every kind to sacrifice in the belief that this will create a black dawn allowing them to rule the world?" The Beta asks with disbelief written all over his face.
"Why this sudden interest in Atra Aurora?" I retort not understand the topic, aren't we searching for River? Mr. Lee looks at me very seriously.
"Arta Aurora has your sister and our future Luna."
I look at them surprised. How did they manage to find Tina? "Okay, so how can I help you find them?" I ask with a feeling of relief in my chest. If the Auroras have Tina, she's alive!
"We need to know exactly everything you know. And we need to figure out a way to find them." Mr. Lee tells me with a twinkle in his eye I can not place.
We spend the rest of the day going through everything I know. All places where the auction can be held, and all places the Auroras can be hidden. I tell them where I think Agnes is buried and Mr. Lee and Harry tell me that they think Arthur, the man who has River, is the one who makes his own liquor and sells it through Henry. Lucas and River's dad, who lives at the camp. They say that the campsite is under surveillance so that, when he returns, they can pursue him back to his place, and hopefully find River and the girl Olivia. They're wondering if I know when Henry received his latest delivery. They do not want to risk talking to Henry himself. He does not seem reliable, and I agree. I can't say with full certainty when Arthur last delivered, all I know is that Henry was fully stocked and that I think Arthur must have delivered at the time he took River. Surely Mrs. Blomberg said that River had been missing for a week when we came back?
"Ask Mrs. Blomberg when River disappeared. She knows everything! Yes, River's mother knows too. But I think it's easier with a pack member. I'm very sure River must have been taken when Arthur made his latest delivery!" I rub my face with my hands again before continuing. "Henry usually gets refills once every two months!" I'm telling them, and once again I see Harry's eyes cloud over.
***
When Harry and I leave the police station we walk in silence. I have never been in a werewolves community before, it looks much like the humans do. Except big wolves walk the streets along with the ones in human form.
"I don't get it. Why stay? When you turned, why didn't you leave?" The beta Harry asks as we walk along the main street up the hill.
"He would have found me, and killed me!" I say shrugging "I'm not trained in anything except taking a beating and abducting people!"
"Did you ever try?"
I laughed a humorless laugh,
"No, we wouldn't had have this conversation if I did!"
He doesn't say anything else, he just keeps going. It isn't easy to make someone understand, Looking at the beta it's obvious that he never has been starving or abused. He has never lived under the circumstances that I have. And Yeah I probably could have done things differently. But I don't know if that would have made any difference to anything.
"Let's say I had done it. Let's say I had gotten away. Where would I go? What would I do? The Winter family's camp is the only one of its kind. I wouldn't have anywhere to stay, to live. And he would probably buy another kid to do his dirty work before having my sister killed. And even if he let my sister live, certain of that I didn't know how to find her. I wouldn't have had the chance to keep on looking for her to find her!" I explain with a sigh. In the corner of my eye, I see him nod deep in thought.
At the top of the hill, the packhouse towers over us. It's huge, and the first I've ever visited or even seen. Harry Tells me that I will have a room on the second floor and that breakfast is served by seven. He expects me to attend training and that he will wake me at five to bring me with him.
As we open the door to my new room I'm at a loss for words. I have never lived in a place s clean and so big. I have my own room.
"Wow!" I breathe at the sight of the bed.
"I hope you will like it!" He said before turning to leave.
"Oh, and Tobias. Do you need anything? New clothes for example?"
I look down on myself.
"A toothbrush and workout clothe would be great!" I Say thankfully.
"There is a toothbrush in the bathroom already! I'll see what I can find regarding clothes!" He says over his shoulder before closing the door behind him.
The light gray walls as clean, there is no wholes to cover up. Black and white photos of the lake hang on the walls in black frames. On the bedstand, I find my phone. I'm not tired, but I have to try this bed out. So I crawl up and lay my head on the pillows. I instantly regret my decision. I feel dirty and the bed is clean.
I jump off and go into the bathroom, there is indeed a toothbrush. I also find some soap and shampoo. The bathroom is in all white tiles with chrome details, steel gray towels hang on the wall beside the shower. I don't have a change of clothes and sigh, I would like a shower so bad! A firm knock on the bedroom door makes me jump.
Before I have time to turn around I hear a happy voice holler at me from my new room.
"Hello! Room service!"
I look out and see a lookalike of Mrs. Blomberg. The small and friendly-looking woman smiles at me and reaches a bundle of things to me.
"I'm just kidding, we don't have room service. But if you need something the omegas usually can get it for you!" She sings.
"I'm Mrs. Birch and head omega in the packhouse. These are some of my son's old things. Beta Williams told me that you were on the skinnier side!" I take the bundle and thank her, a bit overwhelmed.
"No worries sweet boy!" She says before she leaves.
I take the bundle and put it on the bed. Ther are t-shirts, pants, underwear, and workout clothes, with a content sigh I lock the door to my room and walk back to the bathroom.
