Chapter 15

Jack’s head was literally spinning! So many surprises in one single day and that too within such a short period! First, he got a flower bouquet from Jenny and then the very person turns into her office and now she was kissing him? For real? Not to mention that this was the first time she was kissing him willingly without any kind of provocation. But somehow this very act of Jenny helped him to come out of his overly confused and dazed stage. His brain started whirling again but this time towards logic. He wasn’t so conceited as to think that Jenny has fallen for him overnight. He could feel Jenny slowly softening towards him but for her to fall in love with him was still a far case. And even if she was in love with him she would hardly admit that so soon! Which left only one explanation for Jenny’s strange behavior and that is she is putting an act in front of all these people. She is doing all these according to some plan she has made. But whatever her plan was, she was sure successful to put him totally off guard through her actions! For a while he was seriously running out of his wits! But he was Jack Cooper after all and even his dearest wife can’t fool him for a long time. There was something working on that pretty little head of hers though he had no idea what it was. But he planned to find it out soon. For now, he smirked thinking; well, two can play the game even better!

So he tightened their hug by suddenly grabbing her waist and crushing her body onto his and kissed her back with such a force and passion that Jenny immediately froze on her spot. Jack smiled inwardly a victorious smile. He successfully not only put her off guard but also made her plan backfire on her. Slowly he pulled away from the kiss and looked at her while his hands still lingered on her waist. She was looking at him with her eyes wide with surprise, clearly startled with his action. Jack hid his laugh at her reaction and smiled sweetly at her. “Oh, honey I missed you too! In fact, I was about to visit you in your office and take you out for a date! But you beat me to that and I got to see you earlier!” He said with enthusiasm and Jenny just stared at him not knowing how to respond. “Now that you are here I don’t want to waste one more second here! Let’s go honey. I want to spend the rest of the day with my gorgeous wife!” Jack said grinning.

Now it was Jenny’s turn to be at loss of words. How come her plan backfired on her? What was this man planning? Her plan was working so well earlier, she was having really a hard time to control her laughter seeing Jack’s confused state. And now he was acting like it was all normal? Like they were the most romantic couple in the whole universe and act like that on a daily basis!

“B-But don’t you have work, honey? I am sure you do honey. Now, don’t ignore your work for me. You always do so much for me. I don’t want to come between your works now.” She said sweetly trying to escape from this situation.

“Oh my sweet sweet Jenny, always being so considerate! I am already in so much love with you and yet you are always doing such sweet things making me fall for you even harder with every passing second! Oh, Jenny what I would’ve done without you! But don’t you worry sweetheart. I’ve already finished all my work for today. Now I’m free to do whatever I want and I want to spend the day with my gorgeous wife. So shall we go now, princess?” Now Jack was having a great fun playing with his wife like that. The expression on Jenny’s face was just priceless. She was trying so hard to act cool and in control when the truth is she was caught totally off guard by the sudden turning of the situation and now was trying desperately to escape from it. Too bad for her that Jack could see right through her. She must be furious that her plan backfired on her just like that. Jack mentally shook his head with amusement. This woman just keeps making his life more and more interesting. How could he help but love her? She is the only thing that he needs in order to live.

Not finding any way to escape from this dreadful fate Jenny sighed and decided that she had no other choice but to agree to go on this date with her husband. Oh, how she hated this man for destroying her well-made plan just like that and not only that he actually had the nerve to use this situation to his advantage! But she will take care of that later. Right now she needs to focus so that it won’t show on her face how much discomfort she felt over the situation. Damn that Jack if he thought she won’t be able to stand her ground after he snatched the strings of the situation in his hand. If he thought that she was going to turn cold feet now that the keys are in his hand she will show him just how wrong he is. So she smiled even more sweetly than before and said with a fake excitement, “Of course! I can hardly wait to go on that day with you and have great fun like we always do! Let’s leave now!”

“After you!” Jack said giving her his own dazzling smile. Then he wrapped his arm around her shoulder and left the office leaving behind the office staffs whose mouth were hung open at the display he and Jenny put before them and one could have hardly blamed them since none of his stuff could ever imagine acting Jack this way. They’ve always seen him as an overly serious and strict person and now seeing this avatar of Jack must have been a real shock to them. Not that he was worried though. He knew how to handle his staffs. The only thing that mattered to him right now was the fact that he was going on a date with his wife and he was really looking forward to it.

As soon as they were out of the building Jenny jerked out of his arm shoving him away and stomped towards the car. Jack followed after her grinning. Reaching her he made an innocent face and asked “What’s wrong sweetheart? Did I do anything that made you mad at me?”

She narrowed her eyes at him but didn’t say anything. Instead, she opened the passenger side door of the car and getting on it slammed the door shut with full force. Hiding his smile again Jack got into the driver’s seat and looked at a fuming Jenny. He again asked innocently “Jenny, what’s wrong, baby? Why are you so angry? Come on baby talk to me! You are scaring me now. What can I do to make you feel better?”

This time Jenny looked at him with disgust and also somehow bewilderment. As if she couldn’t believe Jack’s actions. “You are the most horrible person I’ve ever known.” Jenny said finally through gritted teeth emphasizing on every word.

Jack feigned to get shocked. “Why? What have I done?”

Jenny groaned with frustration. “For God’s sake Jack! Nobody’s watching us here. So just stop acting all sweet. I’m already sick of the act of sweet and caring husband that you always put on in front of everyone. I’m sick of you acting like you care about me the most, as if I am the most precious thing for you in this whole planet. Just stop it!” She said shouting.

Jack, who seemed not a bit upset by her sudden outburst but rather looked pleased and amused asked smiling “So that was what all that about back there. You thought that I only act that I care for you in front of people so that makes me look good and want to make you look bad implying that you don’t care about me at all. That’s what you think I’m doing, right?”

“No. That’s not what I think you are doing. That’s what I know you are doing.”

“But don’t you think that’s rather silly? I mean why should I care what people think? And even if that does make me look good and you look bad what’s the point of all this? What will I gain by this?”

“That’s what I want to know too! Why are you doing all this? What’ll you gain by this? What’s the point of all this acting? Why can’t you just be yourself and show your true face?”

“Maybe I am always showing my true face but you are just too blind to see it?” He said half-joking and she rolled her eyes. “Tell me something. Do I ‘act caring’ towards you only in front of other people? Don’t I do it when there’s just the two of us?”

He does and that’s what that confuses and disturbs her even more. “You do.” She softly admitted.

“Then how are you going to explain this? According to you I only act that I care for you just to show people. Then why do you think I’d bother doing it when we are in private? You must have a theory on it as well?”

She didn’t. But she wasn’t going to admit it to him. “Well, you do that so that you can always be in practice with your acting skills. So that you never slip on that silly act of yours in front of people.” ‘Yeah that sounded reasonable enough, didn’t it?’ She thought.

Jack burst out laughing. “My my, you sure can be dense sometimes!” He shook with laughter.

Jenny’s cheeks went red from embarrassment. She crossed her arms in stubbornness and said sarcastically “Oh really? Then why don’t you tell me the real reason for your action since I am clearly too dense to find it out for myself? Tell me why do you act like you care for me even when we are alone?”

“Because maybe I don’t act. Maybe I really do care for you.” He said softly. ‘You just don’t know how much.’ He said inwardly.

“Yeah right! I totally believe it!” Jenny said sarcastically.

Jack shrugged. “Well, then you just have to find out the reason yourself. Because that’s the only answer you are getting from me. Anyway enough of all this talking. It’s time for me to go on a romantic date with my beautiful wife. So, where do you want to go sweetheart?” He asked grinning.

“To hell!” Jenny yelled not believing the nerve of this man.

“Aww but then it won’t remain a hell! I mean if I take you to the hell then it will turn into heaven! And all those sinner’s won’t get the punishment they deserve. I can hardly let such a thing happen. So for the sake of mankind, I can’t take you there. Anywhere else you’d like to go honey?”

Jenny looked at him incredulously. “You are impossible!”

Jack grinned. “Hmm looks like you don’t have a place to recommend after all. No problem. If that’s the case I just have to take you to a place of my liking.”

So he started the car, fully determined to make the day a very special one for both of them while Jenny sat on her seat crossing her arms in stubbornness also determined to not to let him!
