Jace POV

I am pissed. Why the f**k does Kelly think she can challenge for the Luna position. I mean, technically she can, but I do not have to accept her as such. I would be within my rights to kill her for causing me to lose my true mate. I growl out to Kelly as Mina accepts the challenge, “Even if you win this challenge, which I do not expect you to, you have no authority to override an alliance that I, as the Alpha, have made. I will warn you Kelly, if you win, I may kill you just so you cannot be Luna. I will talk with the council first. But I can tell you this. I will never mate with you. That was a one-time thing and I do not know why you think you are owed the Luna position because I f***ed you one time. That is all it was, a f**k, and not a good one either.” She looks a little surprised at my warning, ‘Don’t worry Alpha. I heard from Trixie and Molly that this horrible girl has you under a spell and once she loses in a challenge, the magic will be broken and you will be back to yourself.’ She closes the link before I can respond. One of the Bloodstone brothers, I think Chase, walks up and says that the field is back to normal. ‘Wow, that was fast and so cool to watch. Those Earth Dragons are crazy, eating lava,’ Devon links. I watch as Mina and Kelly head towards the field. I notice that Chase is watching them pretty closely, ‘If he thinks he can take our mate, I will kill him,’ Xavier snarls out. ‘Devon, you need to ref this,’ I link.

Devon steps forward and goes over the rules. I notice MJ walk over to Chase and puts his hand on his shoulder. I turn my attention back to the challenge. Kelly blurts out that Mina can’t use her “freaky” powers. I growl, as do the rest of the Dragons. I look to MJ and Chase, Chase looks hurt. I hear Devon yell to begin. I watch as Mina expertly side steps and flips Kelly. She starts yelling about how Kelly is a b***h because she has a mate and still wants me. My eyes snap to Chase after she said that. Chase’s face is stone, but I can see the hurt behind it. MJ has a firm grip on his shoulder. ‘Why the f**k would that stupid she wolf ignore the mate bond for a one-time event,’ Xavier growls loudly in my head. He is mad. As an Alpha wolf, it is his job to help and protect his pack. The mate bond is sacred. I keep listening to Mina as she starts to beat the crap out of Kelly. I howl in joy as Mina demands Kelly to submit and Kelly finally does. ‘She is being transferred Devon. I want her gone in an hour. I don’t care where, find a pack in another state though. Something is going on. You don’t just ignore the mate bond,’ I link Devon as Mina runs up to me. I pull her into a hug so I can take in her scent. Xavier is beyond pissed.

I watch Chase and MJ walk up to Kelly. Kelly tries to apologize but Chase stands firm. ‘This Chase must be strong. He is not taking any excuse for what she did,’ Xavier says. ‘I agree, we will talk with him after. As guests here, and friends of my mate, I want to ensure that he will be alright,’ I respond. I watch as Chase rejects Kelly. ‘Did he just say former Bloodstone Horde?’ Devon links. I am a little shocked, ‘I think so. That means that his dad or his grandfather submitted to the former King. He’s the second son of an Alpha.’ I respond. I watch Kelly fall to the ground crying as MJ holds firm to Chase. MJ is going to be a great leader. He is supporting Chase as much as he can and helping him keep his dignity. They walk back. Chase is engulfed by his brothers and father. MJ releases and we watches them go into the house. I inform Kelly that she has one hour to be packed and ready for her transfer. I take Mina into the house and, luckily, don’t have to go far. They went into a small room near the back door. Mina knocks and they say we can come in. We go in and all of the men have looks on their faces that would make any enemy shrink back and hide. The power that I feel emanating from them is incredible. ‘Offer words of comfort to Chase, he needs to know that it was one time and we had no feelings for her,’ Xavier says. I walk up to Chase, whom has obviously been crying, and pull him into a man hug. “I am sorry that this happened. She had no reason to think I had any feelings for her. I promise, it was only one time,” I say. Chase laughs, “It’s not you having s*x with her that I am upset about. She didn’t even acknowledge me. She just walked away when I called her my mate. Rocky is crushed.” “Your Dragon is an Earth Dragon named Rocky,” I ask. Xavier is howling from the irony of this. They all burst out laughing. Chase clutches his stomach he is laughing so hard, “Yes, but you should hear the names of their Dragons.” Chase gets control of himself. “Thank you Alpha Jace. You are a good man. I am proud that you are Princess Mina’s mate and soon to be Dragon Prince.” I shake his head, “Please call me Jace, you are a friend and I can tell that you would protect Mina from anything. That goes for your family. You do not need to use formalities with me unless we are in a formal setting.” Mina steps forward and stomps her foot yelling about how she told them many times to call her just Mina. I glance at Chase and he is trying not to laugh at her. ‘Mate is so cute. She just stomped her foot,’ Xavier links. Chase thanks Mina for kicking Kelly’s a**. We leave them to their family time. “We need to find dad and MJ. They need to know everything that happened. They are probably fuming,” Mina says. I agree and we head back outside.

The pack has started to disperse. Our group is together to the right. We walk over and the looks that they have are somber. “How is Chase doing,” MJ asks. Mina sighs, “He is doing OK considering. Jace was able to make him laugh. I never did think about how funny it was that Chase’s Dragon’s name is Rocky.” Everyone laughs. The wolves laugh the hardest. Maximus pats me on the back, “You are a good man and leader Jace. Thank you for looking out for one of mine and for punishing the one that hurt him.” I sigh, “On that note. We need to speak in my sound proof office. If the Bloodstone family is up for joining that would be good to. They have the right to know what I found out.” They all nod and we head inside. MJ stops to ask Ralph if they want to join, they file out of the room and follow me up to my office on the fourth floor.

We get in and Devon closes and locks the door. “Please, make yourselves comfortable. There are drinks in the fridge,” I say. Everyone gets comfortable. “We have a problem. Kelly linked me before the challenge began saying that she talked with Trixie and Molly,” I say. Devon and Dylan stiffen and Ember says, “Aren’t those the girls that hung out with that Anna chick?” Dylan responds, “Yes, they were also the she wolves that the council had chosen to mate with myself and Devon. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were trying to have one last shot at getting rid of our mates.” “That is correct. My concern is with what they said. Kelly said that they told her once Mina lost in a challenge, that the spell would be broken,” I say. Everyone gasps and Maximus growls out, “Witches, they are working with witches.” I sigh, “I agree. I think they are working with a coven. Likely the one that attacked Mina.” The Bloodstone family growls loudly. “What do you mean attacked the Princess,” Ralph asks. “We have an ally the smelled one of their scents on Mina,” I say. “They tried to inject her with Dragon’s Root,” MJ states. They all growl again. Mina stands and says, “Calm down everyone. I killed the b**chy she wolf and that’s over. I think we should call Lucy. She would be able to answer any questions.” “I agree,” I say pulling up her phone number. I dial her number and put it on speaker. It rings twice and she picks up, “Hello Alpha Jace. It is nice to hear from you,” Lucy answers. “Lucy, I am glad to talk to you. We have some questions. It would be more secure if we could meet in person,” I say. “Of course. I have time today and can move things around if need be. Would you be willing to set up a transportation port so I can get there faster? It wouldn’t be permanent. It would be a one-time use,” She asks. I look at the others and they nod. “We can do that. When would you like to port over?” I ask. “If you are ready, I can come now. I just need to relay to my second what is going on,” she responds. I hear her put her hand over the mic and yell out for her second. She lets her know that she will be gone for a while but will stay in contact. I will have to let her know that we can hear everything because of our hearing. “OK, I am emailing you the words to the incantation. Just print it off and set it on the floor where you are,” she says and an email immediately follows. I do as instructed, and tell her it’s ready. She says the incantation and appears right in the middle of the office.

I hear Lucy gasp. I look over as Chase stalks over to her and growls out MINE. Lucy cries and flings herself into Chase’s arms. He catches her and inhales her scent. Everyone is staring wide-eyed at what just happened. Lucy pulls back from Chase a little. Chase looks a little scared, I don’t blame him after everything that happened a little over an hour ago. I hear Lucy speak, “I, Lucile Carter, Leader of the Northern Witch Coven, accept you, umm, What’s your name?” she says. We all laugh. Chase looks visibly relieved. “It’s Chase Bloodstone,” He responds. She clears her throat and continues, “I accept you, Chase Bloodstone as my mate.” Chase growls out his approval and kisses her hard. I clear my throat, “Please no mating in my office. Mina, do you think this is pressing enough that we need to speak this minute or can we let them have a couple of hours?” “Oh, let them have some time. There are other things that we need to discuss,” she says and Chase scoops Lucy up and runs out of the office like a bat out of hell. The Bloodstone brothers are cat calling after him and Ralph has a huge grin on his face. “Well, that is definitely an interesting turn of events,” Ralph says. I nod. Devon closes and relocks the door. “OK, I have a few questions about Dragons. I think we have sometime to discuss this since we need Lucy to talk about the witch problem,” I say. Maximus laughs, “I find it funny that Chase is mated to a witch. I figured that you would have questions. Especially after seeing the brothers in action and then the rejection. What do you want to know first?”

Maximus POV

“Let’s start with why the Dragons went into hiding. From what I saw, just the brothers alone could wipe out a pack of wolves,” Jace says. I nod and sigh, “I obviously did not tell the whole story at the Gathering. The short version is, my grandfather was so power hungry that he started to boast about the powers that Dragons had. He also handed over some Dragons to the witches for them to experiment on so he could discover what we truly possessed. The witches discovered that our blood lengthened their lifespan and that our blood was a powerful ingredient for potions. Now, we would have to clarify with Kent, but the hunters caught wind of what was happening and tried to stop the witches. My grandfather went on the warpath killing many hunters in the process. In doing so, he got himself killed. With the end of my grandfather’s life, my father took over as King. My father was not bloodthirsty or power hungry like my grandfather. He was quite the opposite, so much so, that when the witches started to capture Dragons and hunters continued to kill dragons, rather than calling for a meeting to discuss ceasing the actions, he decided to hide all of the Dragons away. For the length of his rule, he did not allow anyone to go outside of our hidden borders. He did not allow for our people to train. I do not know his reasoning behind that, except that maybe he was scared it would attract the witches and hunters.

My father died before I met my mate. I met my mate at 56 and we were not able to have children for about 75 years. I know that sounds like a long time, but for Dragons that live over 300 years, it wasn’t terrible. Anyways. When I took over as King, I decided to start letting our people out into the world to become educated and to bring our society into the modern world. I studied from afar to see how the supernatural world was doing and if things had changed from what I was told from my father. I am happy to say that it has. I hope that with allying with a witch coven and groups of hunters, we can move forward.” Everyone is silent as they process my words. “But why did you decide to come out now,” Jace asks. Callan sighs and answers for me, “The Dragon population has been declining. Fewer people are finding their true mates. That is causing fewer whelps because fewer people are marking each other. They just decide to mate, not mark. Dragons cannot conceive without being marked. Many believe that the Moon Goddess is upset with us for being in hiding, but now, it may be that she is trying to get us out of hiding by pairing us with non-dragons.”

Jace POV

I am sitting here processing everything. When I hear that the population is declining due to not finding mates and dragons not marking each other. I pull Mina into my lap and pull her as close as possible. ‘I hope we can have pups sooner than 75 years. I can’t wait to see mate carrying our pups,’ Xavier says. I have to will away the erection that is starting to form thinking about Mina pregnant. I clear my throat, “Well, I for one, am glad that you came out of hiding. You brought me my beautiful mate.” Maximus smiles and nods. Dylan whistles out, “That is a lot to take in. So, to sum up, your grandfather was on one side of the spectrum and your father swung the complete opposite way. I feel that you fall in the middle where all good leaders land. I am also glad that you came out of hiding,” he says as he pulls Ember into him.

“OK, the next thing is the different types of Dragons,” I say. They all chuckle. Ralph starts, “We already explained the different types, but you saw the visible difference between a Fire Dragon and an Earth Dragon.” “Yes, the Dragon named Rocky actually looks like a rock,” I say with a grin. They all burst out laughing. “I will tell my Dragon Boulder you mean no disrespect,” Ralph laughs out. I pale until everyone is once again laughing. Ralph’s eyes go dark and his Dragon comes out, “What’s wrong with my name?” He asks tilting his head trying to figure it out. Trevor comes to my rescue by saying, “Boulder, you are an Earth Dragon that is both the size and color of an actual boulder.” Boulder looks at him and seems to be thinking about it and then laughs out loud. I relax knowing that they thought it was funny and not insulting. I would have felt awful insulting them. Boulder looks back to me, “You are funny wolf, what is your wolf’s name?” Xavier pushes forward, “I am Xavier. My human was trying to lighten the mood and meant no disrespect.” “None taken, I have never thought about it before but it is funny. The Moon Goddess has a sense of humor,” Boulder says and then gives Ralph back control as does Xavier. “I am sorry if I insulted you Ralph and I will apologize to Chase as well,” I say extending my hand to him. Ralph shakes it, “None taken. I think Dragons have very literal names now that I think about what the other Dragons’ names are.” Gem speaks up, “Umm, you guys have nothing to complain about. My name is Gem and my wolf’s name is Jewel.” She says crossing her arms. We all laugh again. I look around and am glad that we are all getting along so well.
