Chapter 1-How I Died
Hannah's POV The day I had waited for, for so long, was finally here. As I stood admiring myself in the floor-length mirror that stood in my room, I smiled at myself with satisfaction at how beautiful I looked in my purple-flowing off-shoulder dress. For a second I wished my mother was here. My Dad never talks about her so I know nothing about her. Today I turn 18, and today I get to know who my fated mate is. I felt excited because I had prayed all my life to the moon goddess that it should be Damian. It has to be him. I remember very well the conversation I had with him the day I turned 8 years old, he was 9 at that time. “You are the most beautiful girl in our pack.” He said and I blushed. “I like you a lot Hannah, when I become the Alpha, you will be my Luna” And from then, Damian has always had my back. Damian’s younger sister, Ashley, who's my best friend, is only a year younger than her brother. She turned 18 yesterday and I did today. Last year, we celebrated our birthday together on her birthday and this year we'll be celebrating it together on my birthday. And this is how it has been. Everyone in our pack, The Rough Mountain Pack, calls us the AB twins. A means Alpha and B means Beta. My Dad, Stephen Smith, is the Beta of our pack. The tale told about us is that Ashley was born an hour before midnight, and I, an hour after midnight. We did almost everything together and even wore the same outfits for our birthday parties which we usually celebrate together. I heard the door to my room open behind me and I saw Ashley through my mirror as she walked in putting on her pretty purple dress. We wore peach-colored dresses for our last birthday celebration and agreed to wear purple this year. I was very excited to see Ashley so I went to hug her. “You are here” was all that came out of my mouth. “Wait, what! you thought I was going to miss our birthday?” She retorted looking at me. I just smiled and shrugged my shoulders. For a second I was sincerely scared that Ashley might not show up for our birthday. When she found out yesterday that her fated mate was Joshua who's just an Omega and not my brother Hendricks whom she had always had eyes for, she was not at all pleased. Although she didn't reject him, she cried herself to sleep and would not talk to anyone. Seeing her now felt like a birthday present to me. Soon she was done doing my makeup and I helped her with hers. As I rounded up her makeup, I perceived a familiar scent but this time stronger and more pleasant. It was so strong that I stopped, I felt it pulling me. I couldn't resist it. “Hey! Where are you going? Is my makeup done yet?” Ashley asked. “Just a minute” was all I could say. The smell was getting stronger by the second and I could hear footsteps getting closer so I just waited patiently staring at the door to see who it was. My mouth made an o at the sight of Damian. We stared at each other dreamily for what felt like a lifetime. “It's you,” I said with my face flushed as I blushed. I have never blushed so much in my life. Without saying a word he cupped my face in his hands and planted a kiss on my lips. It was our first kiss and oh my goddess! It was magical. “Hey! Love birds don't you dare ruin that makeup,” Ashley said, pushing her brother Damian out of the room. “Out, out, you can pick up where you left off after the party. She added as Damian left smiling from ear to ear. We brushed up our makeup. Holding hands, we took our time coming down the stairs with all eyes on us in our perfect purple dresses and elegant red heels to match our hair reborn and lipstick. Throughout the party, I and Ashley were together. Damian and I kept Exchanging glances as I kept trying to get a hang of this new rush of current surging through me. Once the party was over and everyone had left, I headed upstairs to the topmost part of the house. It was my favorite spot. I stood there leaning out as I enjoyed the fresh air. “Aaaaaahhhhhh!” I screamed as I fell off the balcony. Someone had pushed me unexpectedly from behind. I managed to hold onto an iron bar. “Help!” I screamed on top of my voice knowing there was only a very slim chance of anyone hearing my screams. I looked up and my eyes widened at the sight of whom I had seen. I couldn't believe Ashley was the one who had pushed me, so I looked up at her and pleaded. “Please Ashley help me” “How could I push you and still help you? You must be dumb.” smirking wickedly. “Now this is how the girl who stole my life dies. Hannah Smith, I hate you.” Ashley said and my heart sank. “Ashley, we, we can talk this over, whatever it is please,” I stammered as I struggled to hold on. Rather than help me, she stood above my head smiling at me wickedly. “Right from our childhood Hannah you have always had everything I wanted, everything I wished for, you got without making any effort. On our 8th birthday, you had the gift I wanted, the pink shoes, remember, and even though you knew I wanted it you refused to let me have it. As if it isn't enough that everyone thinks you are prettier than I am. I am the Alpha’s daughter, and yet I get fated to a common Omega, and you to my brother the Alpha, how dare you take my place? How dare you take my life?” Ashley kept shouting at me, my hands were becoming weaker by the second and I was almost letting go. I felt hot tears falling from the side of my eyes. Suddenly she looked at me again pitifully this time, and then she knelt and stretched out her hand to help me. “I got you, you can let go now,” she said, holding my wrist. Feeling relieved, I let go of the iron bar I was holding on to and Ashley immediately let go of my wrist knowing well that I had just discovered my wolf today and hadn't mastered turning into my wolf mid-air.
