THE LONG YEAR

CHAPTER 10

Hreafn (POV)

"How am I supposed to tell her that I can't see her anymore...it's not like we have known each other for very long?" I asked my wolf, hoping for some advice.

"I'm not helping you! you're making this choice on your own! I don't want to have any other mate except her!" he growled.

she stood there leaning against the island counter, waiting for an answer. I know that she feels something for me, but I'm not sure if she knows that we are mates.

"So... what is it you wanted to tell me?" she asked with hope in her eyes, it's the first time I didn't want to make eye contact with her beautiful violet eyes.

"I...um...I, I have to leave here in three days, and I won't be back.... for a while.... I'm, I'm sorry, " I stuttered, not being able to bring myself to tell her why.

"Oh, really? you can't wait an extra day? I would have loved to have spent my whole birthday with you," she pouted in the most cutest way. it made me chuckle.

"Well, I will make sure to spend the morning of your birthday with you, and we will do whatever you want to do,"

"Really?" she asked while making her way around the island, sliding her fingertips across the countertop as she made her way towards me. her hand found its way to my arm that was resting on the same countertop.

"You said anything, right?" she said in a sultry tone, her hand gliding its way up my arm following every curve and divit until it reached my neck. her intense eyes taking my breath away.

"y-yes," I said, swallowing my nerves. no girl has ever made me nervous before, nor have they ever been so forthcoming.

"So..... we could do stuff like this, " she whispered in my ear as she leaned in closer and nibbled my it gently. This caused my wolf to whine in pleasure.

smelling her inviting wildflower scent, sent my scences into over drive. my body reacted on its own as I lifted her onto the island counter and pulled myself in between her thighs. My hand gripped the back of her head while our noses were touching. our breathes intertwined and became one as our lips got closer. while her hands entangled in my hair. the tension building as our lips got closer and closer. I could feel the heat from her breath on my lips. The softness of her eyelashes caressed my face before finally our lips met. her lips were soft, like pure silk. As our kiss deepened and our tounges danced in a magical waltz as we both gasped for air, letting the sensation of eachothers lips and body's take over. my wolf took the lead, and my cainies protruded as I kissed down the nape of her neck. my wolf growled while my teeth lightly brushed her skin. he wanted me to mark her. with all my might, I pulled back. looking at her dazed flushed face, we kissed gently before the door to the kitchen opened.

Dax entered the kitchen as we both tried to make ourselves look as presentable as possible. She hopped off the counter before turning to me while saying,

"Well, I look forward to continuing our conversation later," she smirked before leaving the kitchen.

"must be an interesting conversation?" Dax said mockingly before continuing "your lucky it was me and not your father that caught you... you got to be more careful, lad. you know as well as I that the Luna doesn't want you near her."

I sighed before answering,

"I can't help it. When I'm next to her, I just lose control, and the more connected she is with her wolf, the harder it is to control myself... I know my mother is afraid that if we get together, a war would start, but my father said as soon as people found out we had her, there would be a war..... so does it really matter."

"Hey kid, I can't really tell you what to do. all i can do is tell you that your father is the alpha and your mother is the luna, their word is pack law, and you know it... look, i won't tell the alpha or Luna about this, but you have to tell her. That poor girl has been, though enough I don't want you leading her on. she's under my care now, regardless that you are my future alpha, I will not forgive you if you hurt her... you got that." Dax said as he puffed out his chest and squared himself to tower above me, his pupils chaging as his wolf seeped through, warning me of how serious he was about what he had just said

I felt a cold sweat leave my body. I stood to face him. still slightly shorter than him. I lifted my gaze to meet his and spoke.

"I would never want to hurt her Dax, if I do, I give you full permission to punch me as hard as you want."

"I'll hold you to that." he said as he left the kitchen, and the air of the room settled as I sat alone.

"it's gonna be a long year without her. " ....

Evaluna (Pov)

I laid atop my bed, brushing my finger across my lips. I knew my body was sore from training, but I didn't care. All I could think of was my first kiss, I could still feel the warmth of his lips on mine. my tongue still tingled, remembering the deep dance it did. I could still taste him. Chocolate tastes like chocolate. my giddiness was overtaken by exhaustion, and my eyes slowly drifted off into a beautiful dream where we kissed over and over and over again.

I jerked awake from the door to my room opening. jumping to my feet with my fist in the air, a high-pitched scream filled the air.

"AHHHH!!! EVIE IT'S ME QUEENIE!"

my body relaxed, and I lowered my first with a quick "Oh! my bad, " I smiled.

"geeze, you really are punch first ask questions later type of person huh!?" she snorted.

"You should have knocked," I rebutted

"I did... for five minutes. "

"Oh...haha, sorry... what's up?" I asked while rubbing the sleep from my eyes.

"My dad told me to wake you and run some training drills with you until he gets back. so up and at em." she explained before leaving the room as quickly as she came.

I quickly got myself ready and headed down the stairs into the dining room where Queenie was already eating her fill of breakfast. looking around, I only saw myself, Queenie and the Luna, whose face was just as stern and cold as the first day I met her. I could have sworn that her face soured even more when we locked eyes.

"Good morning, luna," I said as politely as I could. "Hope you're enjoying your morning," I continued with a smile as I sat myself down.

"I was," she muttered while picking up her newspaper to shield her face from any more unwanted conversations.

Queenie and I finished breakfast quickly to escape the awkward feeling that filled the air.

we made our way to the training ground where she proceeded to run me ragged. like father like daughter, I thought while feeling the beads of sweat roll down onto the gravel floor. training continued from morning until late afternoon.

feeling the coolness in the air, I sat on the grass and let the wind cool me down.

"You'd give your father a run for his money as a trainer." I said breathless.

"Ha ha well It's about time that the student becomes the master... I think that's how you say it anyway." she chuckled

"What was Dax doing today anyways?"

"couldn't really tell you even if I knew. He said it was some sort of diplomacy with another pack. my dad, Alpha Atlas, and Hreafn had to meet up with the other pack to discuss something... or at least that's all I overheard."

"Any idea when they would be back?"

"Well, considering my dad told me to run these drills with you for two days, I'm gonna assume that he will be back the day after tomorrow."

"My birthday .... I see that long, huh? " I said with sadness. I won't be able to see Hreafn until then, and he will be leaving again that very same day.

"YOUR BIRTHDAY!!!!!! OMG, I'm throwing you a party!" Queenie screamed in excitement!

"You really don't have to. Besides, I don't even know enough people to even consider having a birthday party, I was just going to train and then enjoy a quiet night in."

"absaloutly not! you may not know a lot of people, but I certainly do! it would be a great way for you to meet some more people our age, my dad's great and all, but good luck trying to have a conversation with him that dont invole trains sports or the Alpha... two days, that's not a lot of time. I'd better get started, " she said, hopping to her feet.

"I have a feeling you are using me as an excuse to have a party!" I joked

"You couldn't be more right!" She winked while giving me the thumbs up before heading inside, muttering something about playlists as she left.

I chuckled to myself and let my back fall to the grass. staring at the still peaceful sky. I could feel my muscles ache, but it was my heart that ached more.

"Two whole days, huh...."
