CHAPTER 5
Hreans (POV)
I woke up to a beautiful sight. Evaluna draped over my chest, sound asleep. I brought my nose to her head and breathed in her astonishing scent. It somehow matured more overnight, making it hard to contain my wolf. He wanted her so badly, but he knows just as well as I that we can’t. It’s pack law. We can’t mate with anyone until both parties are eighteen. My father is extremely serious about this law.
“Hreafn… are you awake yet?” Dax’s voice entered my head.
“Oh, s**t … sorry, Dax, I forgot to let you know she asked me to stay here with her,” I replied through mind link.
“Yeh, I really didn’t hold my breath about you coming to the room. Is the little puppy doing better, tho?” Dax asked
That was surprising, Dax, taking an interest in someone other than his family, myself, or my father.
“She seems to be better. She’s sleeping at the moment, but I was hoping to take this opportunity to ask you to do me a favor!” I said hopefully.
“Shoot! What do you need?” He asked
“I need you to get her a change of clothes. I think she’s around a size four. She needs something comfortable, but also nice enough for her to be presented to my father.”
“Got it covered! Give me half an hour,” he said before we disconnected.
I snuggled myself back in and wrapped my arms around her, and closed my eyes. Before I knew it, there was a knock at the door.
She rustled, beginning to wake up. Tenderly stroked her hair, I had to stop myself from kissing her on the head. It was almost like a reflex.
“It’s time to wake up, little Luna,” I whispered
She groaned and stretched out her arms before sitting up. She looked a little dazed, still trying to wake up. Rubbing her eyes, she said,
“Morning,”
“Morning,” I said, getting out of bed.
“I asked Dax to get you some clothes for you,” I continued while heading to the door.
I opened it to find Dax standing there with a sour face. That quickly turned to an inquisitive look as he looked me up and down before he said,
“Well, I guess someone had a good night… don’t worry, I won’t tell your father,” he winked.
“Nothing happened!” I said, flustered.
“Yeh… sure. Whatever you say,” he joked while handing me a bag full of clothes.
I slammed the door in his face and heard him chuckle on the other side. Turning around, I saw my little Luna sitting on the bed in my long-sleeved shirt; it made her look even smaller than she already was.
“Here you go” I said while handing her the bag.
“I’m gonna give you some privacy. Would you like some coffee or tea?” I asked while putting on my jacket.
“Tea would be nice, milk and sugar please,” she replied
I smiled and opened the door and gave a quick wave before going to grab a quick breakfast for us both.
***
Evaluna (POV)
He left me alone in the room holding a bag of clothes; I didn’t really want to take his shirt off, the warms and peace it gave me was so comforting but I knew he would need it. Opening the bag, I emptied the contents over the bed. There was everything I could need. Hair ties, Bobby pins, brush, comb, some simple makeup, feminine products, face and body lotion, shoes and clothes, and even underwear. I chuckled to myself, pictureing dax in the aisle and trying to descretly pick out the undergarments, his face red like a lobster cursing Hreafn under his breath. The clothes were very stylish. It rather surprised me, considering Dax picked them out. He picked out a black pleated plaid skirt with white and light pink acesnts that stopped midway past my thigh. Paired with a white long-sleeved blouse and a light pink knitted vest to go over the top. He also got some black stocking tights and thick woolen socks - I could only assume wherever we were headed must be cold - and chunky black shoes that were a bit too big. I didn’t blame him, though everything else fit perfectly.
When I went to get changed, I looked at my feet to see how the cuts were doing, and it shocked me that they had completely healed.
“One perk of being a werewolf. We heal quickly,” my wolf said. I had already gotten used to hearing her voice in my head.
After getting changed, I put my hair up into a neat ballerina style bun with a couple of pieces of hair to frame my face.
“I wonder if he will think I’m cute,” I whispered while looking in the mirror.
I shook my head and told myself I was being stupid.
‘Before thinking about boys, I need to find out who those men were, why they killed my mom, and what they wanted with me!’
“And get revenge!” I growled. My wolf and I were in complete unity with this statement.
I packed up all the stuff Dax had gotten me back into the bag. Folded Hreafn’s t-shirt; gave it one last sniff, taking in his warm, tender scent before making my way to the car to meet Hreafn and Dax.
“Well… well… Well, look at the little puppy, all neat and clean! I did a pretty good job on the outfit, if I do say so myself. Having a teenage girl comes in handy once in a while,” he laughed.
“I wondered where you got your fashion sense from. It all makes sense now!” I giggled.
I turned my head to see what Hreafn thought of the outfit.
“So Hreafn, she looks cute, huh!?” Dax said like he knew I wanted Hreafns approval.
Hreafn eyes studied me up and down a few times as if he was taking in every inch of my body. My face flushed.
“Come on, say something. You’re embarrassing the poor girl,” Dax said while playfully slapping the back of his head.
Hreafn shot Dax a look while rubbing the spot Daxs hand made contact with before saying,
“Sorry… if I’m gonna be honest … I was a little in shock at how beautiful you looked,” he scratched the side of his face, embarrassed at what he just said.
“Wow Hreafn who knew you could be so smooth,” Dax said while belly laughing.
I knew my face was bright red, but I still squeezed out a quick thankyou before grabbing the takeaway cup and paperbag from Hreafn's hand, threw his shirt at his chest and fulng myself into the back of the car
Dax and Hreafn shortly followed, sitting in the front seats. Dax turned to me, gave a quick smile, and said,
“It’s about another 6 hours of driving before we get to the pack lands. So you better get comfortable.”
It was a very long and uneventful 6 hours looking out the car window and making small talk here and there when I suddenly got an overwhelming taste of black licorice in my mouth. I slapped my lips together a couple of times, trying to get the horrid taste off my tongue.
"Yeh, you never do get used to the taste. It really is hit or miss for some people, " Hreafn said
"What am I tasting exactly?"
"That would be our magical Barrier, keeps the mortals out of our lands as well as most uninvited persons," he replied
"Magic... I'm tasting magic!? So there's more than just werewolves?"
"Of course there is little puppy, there is witches, wizards, ogres, giants, vampires, and a boat load pf other magical creates in our lands. Your world is about to get a whole lot bigger, " Dax replied
"So where exactly are these lands?" I asked
"We are North," Dax said
‘North?… looks like I made it north after all, mom,’ I thought to myself.
There was a long pause before Hreafn spoke, breaking the silence.
“My father just mind linked me and asked if we could meet him at Alpha house B.”
“Alright,” Dax said before looking at me through the rear-view mirror
“Well, little puppy, get comfortable. Looks like we will be on the road for another couple of hours,”
I let out a small sigh and slumped my Chin into my hand when a thought came to me.
“You said your father told you through mind link. What is that?” I asked.
“It’s a connection between select pack members that allows us to speak to each other without outsiders knowing.” Hreafn answered
“Is it something I’ll be able to do?” I asked
“Maybe, but you have to become one with your wolf first and also be a member of the pack before you’re able to mind link with any of us,” stated Dax.
“But how do I become a member of a pack I wasn’t born into?” I asked curiously.
“You mean you wanna be a part of our pack!” Hreafn said with his eyes almost sparkling with joy. I couldn’t help myself from giggling. He looked like a little boy on Christmas day.
“Yeh of course … I, I mean, if you think the alpha would allow me to,” I stuttered.
The smile on his face grew even larger.
“I’m sure he will allow that! Considering he was the one that sent us to collect you”
“But why did he want to collect me?” The question just popped out without thinking.
“Honestly, neither of us really knows why…I’m sorry, little puppy, but you will have to wait a few more hours before you get the answers you’re looking for,” answered Dax.
I pouted a little before saying,
“It’s okay, I understand,”
The next couple of hours were similar to the last. Small talk while taking in the scenery. It was picturesque. Something you’d see in movies.
Ever green trees everywhere you looked, with large crystal blue lakes that were so still that it perfectly reflected the scenery of forests and rocky mountains lightly dusted with snow and blue skies with white puffy clouds.
"It looks like a mirror." I whispered
I had never seen such a beautiful landscape before.
After admiring the scenery for a little while longer, the car took a turn down a rocky dirt road. We followed the road for about ten minutes, twisting and winding our way through a dense collection of trees before coming to a halt in front of large exquisite black metal gates with tasteful gold detailing.
Dax rolled down his window and waited before a voice came from the digital box on the brick wall that the gate was attached to.
“What is your business?”The box said
“Delivering package Silver to the alpha along with his son,” Dax replied
The gates slowly opened, and we made our way through. It was about another five minutes before we pulled up to a gigantic grey brick mansion with marble pillars lining the front entryway and too many windows to count.
Hreafn got out of the car and opened my door before extending his hand to help me. Taking his hand, I stepped out of the vehicle, stunned at the size of the place they had taken me to. I couldn’t help but do a three hundred and sixty degrees turn to take in my new surroundings.
We walked up to the entrance, where we were met by an older gentleman in a full suit and tie.
“Mr Hreaf, welcome back. Your father is waiting for you in the drawing room.” He said
“Excellent, thankyou Marcus” Hreafn replied before turning to Dax, who was still in the car. “park up and meet us in the drawing room, Dax!,” he yelled.
He took my hand and escorted me inside. I thought the outside was stunning; the inside made it look plain. Tall crisp white walls and a marbled floor with a round black decorative fresco in the centre of the room, topped with a table made of gold and black marble, with small trees on either side drawing your eye to the large pillars of the second entry way. Above the pillars on either side were two winding staircases, with black metal railings that twisted and turned into each other. The stairs themselves were white marble with plush black runners. The show stopper of it all was the large three teared black and gold chandelier that was bejeweled with crystals everywhere you looked. My jaw dropped.
“This" this is where you live?” I asked, almost too stunned to speak
“no this is just our vacation home,” he said nonchalantly
“J-just.”
“We should hurry. My father doesn’t like to be kept waiting,” he said while dragging me up one staircase, almost running.
We continued down a long hallway before stopping in front of two large, black wooded doors. Hreafn knocked rhythmically, almost like it was a password, before a loud, deep voice bellowed
“YOU MAY ENTER,”
I could feel the ground beneath my feet shake. Hreafn turned to me and smiled softly before opening the door. We entered a large study room with a small library decorating the back wall with a fireplace underneath, with two large throne-like chairs on either side. A gigantic mahogany desk, cluttered with papers, maps, books, and pens, was positioned to the side near the beautiful windows. The three large stain glass windows let in a rainbow of color that brightened up the plain white rug that filled the floor. Standing in the centre of the room was a tall, muscular man with jet black hair, tanned skin and deep brown triangular eyes, dressed in a baby blue dress shirt tucked neatly into grey dress pants, light brown shoes with a belt to match. The resemblance was uncanny. This was Hreafns father.
The Alpha.
