Chapter 24: Like A Thief in the Night
[ Trinity ]
"Be angry at me, I don't care but why are you mad I saved your life?"
"Because you risked yours," Derek gripped the steering wheel of the Camaro so tightly his knuckles went white. Isaac sat quietly in the backseat listening closely to the conversation. "Come on, we're meeting Scott here."
They emerged from the car, walking further into the woods to meet with the others. "Your boyfriends mad at you," Isaac teased earning a smack to his shoulder.
"Shut up. He's not my boyfriend."
Isaac and Trinity walked up to Derek, from behind another figure came through. "It's just me," Scott called and everyone relaxed. "And we aren't the only ones who decided to stick together." He pointed to a tree, two sets of claws marks on it.
"Actually, it'd be best if we split up. Two with two so we don't use all our energy on one wolf if they split up too."
Everyone nodded at the idea. "Trinity and I, Derek and Scott." Isaac offered, his fingers running over the warm fabric of his scarf.
Derek seemed hesitant but nodded anyway. "Call me if you need me."
Groups broke up, Isaac and Trinity went of in the opposite direction looking for Boyd and Cora. "So, you and Derek."
"We've been over this, Isaac," Trinity groaned, keeping a watchful eye out for two murderous werewolves. "Derek and I aren't dating."
He pulled up a branch to accommodate his towering height. "There may not be the exact label on it, but we all see how you act around each other and that's usually called dating."
"Really?" Trinity threw back. "I thought it was called mind your own business."
Lahey opened his mouth to respond to the girl who'd he'd grown close with during the summer but a series of loud growls caught him off guard. They ran towards it, finding Cora staring hungrily at a woman with medium length brown hair, her eyes wide.
The curly haired boy acted fast, landing a nasty blow to Cora's jaw knocking her to the ground. When the younger Hale looked up she made a threatening move towards Isaac that was stopped when she saw the barrel of a gun pointed towards her and she ran the other way. "Isaac, go after her. I'll meet you in a minute."
"Are you sure?"
"Go," She urged, putting the gun away. "—before you can't find her again." Trinity looked at the girl who she now realized was camping from the tent behind her. "Are you okay?"
The strangers straight hair was all over her face and she rose a shaky hand to move it out of the way. "What just happened?"
"Don't worry about it. Just go home and stay safe."
"What about my girlfriend?"
Trinity looked around, finally noticing the second duffle bag leaning gently against a log. "Someone else was with you?"
"Yeah, my girlfriend Emily."
Tucking a lock of her braided back hair, Trinity sighed. "Call the police and they'll put out an APB out on her, but please leave us out of it."
"How do I know you aren't the bad guys?"
"Because you're alive."
Twenty minutes later the group had come together once again seeming wore out and loosing hope on the idea of catching the runaways. "This isn't working," Scott pointed out the obvious, his thick eyebrows furrowing at the top of his forehead. "They're too fast for us to catch on our own. We need help."
"From who?"
"From someone who knows how to hunt werewolves."
Derek rolled his eyes the at the plan, grumbling under his breath the whole ride to where Argent was about how he'd tried to kill him and his whole pack and now they were going to him for help.
"Shut up," Trinity looked out the window in the passenger seat watching Scott approach Chris and receive a gun pointing at his face.
"So," Isaac leaned forward, resting his arms on both seats. "—your sister?" Derek looked pointedly at his beta. "Right, I'll ask later." Another glare. "Or never. Never's good too."
Trinity laughed aloud, using a hand to lsaac back into his seat.
"It worked," Derek revved his engine, following behind the car that Chris and Scott were entering. Following a series of turns, the cars stopped at a crime scene, bright red and blue lights signaling that there was an accident—a murder.
"What happened over there?"
"Dead body," The alpha grumbled out, silently pinpointing the death on the two betas they had yet to capture.
Isaac let out a deep break, rubbing his palms on his blue jeans. "Do you really think we're going to be able to get the before they kill someone?"
"I hope so," The blonde whispered but it didn't matter, both wolves could hear her perfectly. "—because if we can't catch them the only other way to stop them before they hurt someone is killing them."
