The Unexpected Meeting
One cannot choose where to find love, neither can one choose where to fall in love. When love happens, it controls one's actions. Any opposing view does always seem to be wrong. Yes, those in love are always right in their eyes, and you will never know unless you find yourself in their shoes. Love is a beautiful thing. Love is good when you find love with the right one.
It's the busiest season of the year and Christmas was fast approaching. The streets were wearing new looks. There were a lot of street decorations. Houses find new attractive looks as well. The streets and malls were buzzing, children were happy, dancing, playing and visiting the grotto of Father Christmas. Yes, you heard right. Every child looks forward to seeing Santa Claus. It's a refreshing feeling when they receive gifts from Santa Claus. Families look forward to a beautiful reunion. It's been a long time since they met, chatted and had a round table discussion. So many families look forward to meeting each other.
Daniel, 25, and a fresh graduate who studied computer science at the local university, was looking forward to the beautiful things Christmas would bring. He is one of those people who hardly travels out of their city. He loved the new look the city was wearing. It's autumn season, Christmas season and autumn were falling. Everywhere was beautiful with crystal-clear snow. The cars, houses, roads and virtually everywhere were bathed with snow. Daniel decided to take a walk down the park before a cute little puppy ran in between his legs. Daniel almost fell before he noticed that the dog belonged to Kendra. Kendra, a young beautiful and attractive lady, had been his crush during his high school days. So, what a way to meet one's crush! Daniel relished the thought.
"I'm so sorry. It's my cute bunny", Kendra said, still not recognizing Daniel yet.
"It's okay my dear. It may seem as though you don't recognize me?", Daniel queried as he looked straight into her pretty attractive eyes.
Kendra felt a bit shy about the way Daniel looked at him. She was still trying to figure out where she must have met the face staring at her.
"Do you remember the guy that always stalked you and Mercy after classes in high school? St Monica High School?", Daniel trying to take her back to their high school days. He stalked the hell out of Kendra in high school. And that was a huge turn-off for her then. She would give him the silent treatment then, all because she had all her father told her in mind.
Kendra recognizing the face, "Yes I do. Um... remind me of your name... Divan, right?"
"No, Daniel. Daniel Richmond", Daniel corrected her politely.
"Oh Daniel, nice meeting you again. You look different now. So grown and handsome", Kendra admires his broad shoulders and well-built body. He is a fan of the gym but not a regular gym enthusiast. He has built some muscles in the right places. He looked so handsome and breathtaking.
"Thank you very much. You look more beautiful now. You have grown into a beautiful and adorable woman. I can tell you are more beautiful than bed of roses", Daniel dished out the little pick-up line he could grasp. He's not the typical guy that would sweep a woman off her feet with rizz and topnotch pick-up lines.
Kendra laughs off, "thank you for the compliment. So, what are you doing here?"
"I just like coming to this beautiful park to look around and have a breath of fresh air and green scenery. It's a beautiful sight to see kids playing and families having fun", Daniel responded as he pointed at the beautiful families having fun in the park.
"So, you come here alone often?", Kendra asked as she looked keen to get an answer.
"I do come alone", Daniel retorted with a smirk, and a little smile followed.
"You don't have a girlfriend?", Kendra subtly inquired with a stern look.
"I don't have any. I'm looking forward to finding love someday", Daniel responded, then giggled.
"It's okay. You will definitely find love someday", Kendra assured him.
They both walked down the park reminiscing on the past and their high school days. Daniel had always liked Kendra during their high school days, but Kendra wasn't ready for a relationship because she was barely 16 years old. She wasn't ready then because her father had told her to keep off relationships till she was eighteen. Her father told her that boys would take advantage of her naivety should she pursue a relationship when she was not of age. He had warned her that she could get pregnant and drop out of school. So, Kendra wasn't ready for all the relationship drama. She really built a strong wall to repel all the love gestures from Daniel. Now fate has brought both together.
After having the best of fun and companionship, Daniel ordered a taxi as he made sure Kendra reached home safely. As Kendra alighted from the taxi, she waved at Daniel, who waved back as they kept eye contact for some seconds. Then Kendra turned, as the taxi drove off. Kendra would look back at every second and would notice that Daniel was still looking at her as the taxi moved.
Daniel was filled with mixed feelings as the taxi drove him home. He was excited to have met his crush of many years but wasn't too sure if he would get a chance at her. He remembered the ugly old days when he tried wooing her and how all his efforts were to no avail. He became skeptical if anything could work out between them or should he just let everything slide away and not try to see if they could be a thing. Seeing her again has ignited old feelings and turned them new. He later concluded to pursue a relationship with her. But what became a dilemma was the next step to follow. He couldn't figure out what to do next, so he decided to allow things to take a natural course.
Kendra, on the other hand, really enjoyed Daniel's company. It's been a long time since she had such fun. She had been in love before, but that was when she entered university. She found love in the arms of Jade, who was a fine young lad, sweet-talking, tall and well-built. Jade was so good at pulling romantic stunts. He knew how to make Kendra fall in love all over again with him. They were a perfect match. Everything going well turned soar when Kendra caught Jade cheating on her with her own best friend Linda. It was that sole incident that changed her perception of trust. She couldn't believe the two people she could trust with everything she had would betray her like that. So, from that day, she swore never to trust anybody. Not even her own father. That was the day she had issues with trust.
Daniel, on the other hand, has tasted love, but it all ended in the shortest period. The girl he met at university named Corry had his heart shattered after leaving him for another guy in school. The reason Corry gave for leaving Daniel was that he was very rigid. He wasn't romantic. So, Daniel had sworn within him to improve whatever must have been his shortcomings from his previous relationship.
