Cassian's POV
I could feel the eyes of every guest in the room, their gazes filled with sympathy for me.
"Alright, ladies and gentlemen, may I have your attention, please?" My mate, holding up her wedding gown, walked onto the stage and addressed microphone. I had no idea what she was planning, but she looked so adorable. I raised my hand to silence the room.
She turned to me, her eyes sparkling. "Darling, I’ve loved you for over a decade. I thought we’d never get our chance, but the Moon Goddess has given me another shot. That bad woman doesn’t appreciate you. I do. Let’s get married."
I was stunned by her confession. I had no memory of meeting her before today, yet here she was, claiming she had loved me for years.
"Renault, are you sure you’ve been helping me find my mate? Why didn’t you tell me about this before?" I asked my wolf in my mind.
Renault, looking just as confused, stared at me. "I don’t know, but I’m certain I’ve never felt our mate before today, not until the wedding. But regardless, she’s our mate. Isn’t that enough?"
I trusted Renault. He wouldn’t lie to me. I knew wolves longed for their mates, and while this might be a misunderstanding, my mate stood before me now, in a wedding gown, proposing to me. Trust me, no one would turn down a girl as brave and adorable as her.
I was 110% sure she was trying to break the ice, not wanting to make a mess of things.
"YES, I will."
But a lady shouldn’t be the one proposing.
I took a step back, reached up to remove the necklace from around my neck. It held a lady’s ring—the Payne family crest. Holding it up, I knelt before her.
"My girl, will you marry me and become Mrs. Payne?" She stood there, squinting at me, silent.
"Proposals should come from the man, my girl. I need you to say ‘yes,’ or my life won’t be complete." I put on my most dramatic disappointed look.
"Alright, fine. Since you can’t live without me, I’ll say yes!"
The frown on my face turned into a radiant smile as I slid the emerald crest ring onto her finger. It fit perfectly. She truly was my destined mate.
I adjusted my posture, stood before her, and kissed her lips, sealing the proposal.
The guests erupted in cheers and laughter, their excited faces filling the room, followed by a chorus of howls.
"I still have something to do. Wait for me here."
I hurried out of the venue to grab something, and when I returned to the hotel, my mate was happily chatting with the guests from the reception.
I handed her a bouquet of roses. They say love starts with a bouquet and a confession.
"Wow, this is unbelievable," she exclaimed, her eyes widening when she noticed the roses in my hand.
"Do you like them?"
"Of course! No girl can say no to roses." She said loudly, and I had no doubt she was pleased.
"Now, can you tell me your name, my bride?" I smiled at her.
"My name is Angela Kinsey."
Wow, not only does she look like an angel, but her name is practically angelic too.
"Nice to meet you, my girl. I’m Cassian Payne."
I was certain we would begin our love story from here, with marriage.
Angela’s POV
After the wedding event at the hotel, Cassian led me to the room he had reserved for us.
As soon as we entered the room, I collapsed onto the couch, kicked off my heels, and just wanted the day to be over. I poured myself a glass of water and downed it in a few seconds.
“I just got some ice and food from the hotel staff. I thought you might need them,” Cassian said as he sat next to me, placing the items on the coffee table.
“Angela, you should eat something. I saw you barely touched any food at the reception. I’m guessing you must be starving by now.” He handed me a sandwich.
Then, he moved the pillows off the couch and gently placed my legs on his lap.
“I’ll lift your legs and put some ice on your ankles. Hopefully, the pain will ease up.” He muttered, wrapping ice cubes in a white towel and placing one on each of my ankles.
He softly pressed the ice onto my ankles and started massaging my calves. I couldn’t help but wince in pain. So much had happened today that I hadn’t even noticed how bad my feet hurt.
But looking at Cassian’s thoughtful care, the day wasn’t so terrible after all. Kindness always finds its way.
After I finished the sandwich, my legs felt much better.
“Would you like to shower and rest for a bit?” Cassian called out from the bedroom, holding a set of women’s pajamas. “They’re brand new.”
I slipped on some slippers and walked over to him to take the pajamas. It was then I noticed the jewelry and cash gifts casually scattered across the bed.
Cassian caught my gaze and pulled me over to the bed.
“These are gifts and cash we received today at the wedding. My family might have been in a hurry, so they just left them here. There are more gifts piled up in the lobby,” Cassian said nonchalantly, as though the jewelry was nothing special. “Take whatever you like.”
I raised an eyebrow and picked up a watch, examining it curiously.
“This is Patek Philippe,” he added.
I shrugged. “Oh, never heard of it.”
Though I had once been Willard’s fiancée, I was more of a bookworm, always buried in the library. And after my father remarried, he didn’t give me much money, so I wasn’t familiar with aristocratic trinkets.
Next, I picked up a car key, turning it over in my fingers.
“Bugatti,” Cassian continued, “Do you have a license? This could be your new ride, or I can hire a driver for you.”
It seemed Cassian was a very wealthy man, clearly from a different world than mine. In him, I saw the same pride and arrogance I had known from Willard’s circle—something I would never possess.
I tossed the key back onto the bed. “I’m not into cars.”
I grabbed a red envelope from the bed and turned to Cassian. “I helped you a lot today, so I’ll take this envelope as a thank-you gift. I’ve got to go now.”
