Chapter 27Steph
The trail was narrow as it wound its way between shrubbery and rocks, and they rode in single file. Steph meant to stay with Annika for a while, but Midnight wasn’t content to amble along behind the slow horses, and every time the trail widened a little, he pushed to pass someone. Seeing how Annika sat on Spotty fairly relaxed and how the smallish Appaloosa was content to just set one foot in front of the other, Steph allowed Midnight to move up the line. It was early still and no one was in a chatty mood, so other than occasional exclamations about the rugged beauty of the landscape, their group rode in silence. Midnight’s gait was as ground-covering as it’d been in the arena, if not more so, and he was very alert to his surroundings yet not in any way stressed. Only Maik
