Chapter 19

Luca’s POV

The three of them walked in and my beta and third sat in the seats across from my desk and I pulled out the chair next to me for Drea to take.

I noticed Leo my third in command constantly side eyeing her which was annoying my wolf. I also noticed her looking at Leo a couple of times as well. It was clear my beta had noticed this too but it wasn’t likely he would comment on it till later. After a few minutes of silence I decided to ask what the hell was going on.

“Okay, so does anyone want to tell me what the hell is going on?” I said looking between my mate and my third.

“What the hell is she doing here?” Leo said pointing to my mate.

“Leo, watch how you speak about MY mate” I warned him, noticing his tone and facial expression.

“Mate…. How is she your mate? I haven’t been gone that long.” He stuttered out, looking back and forth between me and my mate.

“They just found each other Leo.” My beta said.

“Do you know who she is Luca?” Once again my third in command was asking annoying pointless questions.

“Yes she is princess Andrea Peterson. Soon to be queen” I said annoyed not understanding his point.

“P.... Princess... Queen.” He stuttered out. “She is MUERTE. That mission I was on a couple of years ago. She was there. The one where we saved our kids that were taken. How can she be a princess? And a queen?"

“Wait what the hell are you talking about?” He wasn’t making any sense.

"The mission. We got there but MUERTE was already there. Gave us the files and all. All the information we had gotten was because they were given to us.” He said

“I’m sorry but what makes you think I’m MUERTE?” She asked looking at Leo seriously.

“I KNOW you are muerte. I would know you anywhere from your weapons. The swords I seen today was the same ones I saw two years ago when we fought together to free the kids from those rouges” Leo said looking at her. It’s was clear he thought she was Muerte. But she is a princess. No way would Uncle....... let her go out and fight rouges when she is supposed to be next in line for the throne. Would he???

“We’ll I must say... I didn’t think anyone would be able to recognize me." She said a smile slowly crossing her face. "I always have my hood and mask on. I didn't think anyone would or could recognize me . So I’m surprised that you figured it out.”

Wait is she serious. This must be a joke. There is no way she is muerte. No way would her dad if anything her mom wouldn't let her fight rogues... Is there?

“Wait but HOW are you muerte?” I asked her. Doubt showing a little in my voice as well as my face.

“Sigh….. Muerte has... kind of just happened…. It was about five years ago. I was in the woods training when I heard a scream. I didn’t think... I just ran towards it." She looked out the window as she recalled the memory to us "When I got there a girl was about to be attacked by two rouges. They didn’t even see me until it was too late. She had lost her family while they were traveling to a different pack. The rouges had killed them right in front of her. They didn’t show her any mercy. So I didn’t give them any either. Ever since then I have always been around helping whenever someone needs it.” She said.

She WAS muerte. But wait five years ago. She was just thirteen. How is that even possible? Muerte is a skilled fighter. She had just become a teenager.

“How is it possible that you are muerte? You would have only been thirteen at that time. Just barely a teenager. And you killed two rouges? That’s how you became Muerte? What happened to the little girl?”

“Yes. That is how I became muerte. My people are everywhere. It is why I knew the location of the rouges that had the kids. My people couldn’t handle a big job like that on their own. They needed help so they called me. They are a part of my kingdom. They can come and go as they please living a sort of "rouge" life as in being free in a sense, all while still having protection and not fear of being killed by other packs just because they want to roam a little. Most families have houses on our land. Some have houses in other places. But all are protected by me and they serve the kingdom.” She said. "As for the girl, she was my age. I didn't know what to do so I took her home and my uncle and aunt helped her to get to the kingdom. I looked for her when I got there. I wanted to make sure life was treating her good for all the bad she went through."

"And is she doing good?" I asked my mate

"Yes she is. She is one of my top warriors, fought her place in our kingdom, and earned her title as one of the best warriors that we have. She has a mate who is also a top warrior in the kingdom and she is happy."

“How do you help these people? I mean... if they just roam whenever, wherever they want. How can they just kind of summon you whenever they want to?” My beta asked. I was also curious about this. How would that work when we officially mate? Will she give it up? would she continue to do this? All these questions were running through my mind.

“We’ll they all are part of the kingdom. And the kingdom is like a pack. We mind-link. Except our mind-link in the royal family has no distance, no limit. I have my own finances. I help other people, packs. I invest. I’m good at what I do. I have been training since I was a kid... to fight, protect, become a princess and more. It’s my job to do what I do.” She explained to me.

“But putting your life on the line like that. Every time. Andrea. You can’t be a queen if you do that. The kingdom has warriors. Fighters. You have your Elites.” She was so willing to put her life in danger every time. It wasn’t something I could agree with. I hated her fighting when we were out, I know I can’t stop her, but I don’t have to like it. I'm just not sure..... I don't even know.

“Sigh. Luca, I know you mean we’ll, but being a princess, THE future queen, I can’t expect my people to protect me and my family with THEIR lives if I am not willing to do the same.” She said to me. I know this. I’m the same way when it comes to my pack. I guess it’s different when you find your mate. “I’m curious, Leo. How could you tell I am muerte?”

“We’ll ever since we fought side by side I paid close attention that day to your weapons. Especially your knives. I don’t know anyone who fights with weapons, let alone in their human form. So that is how I knew who you were. Your weapons. But why did you let us go that day? ” The question that he has been asking himself ever since that day. The question that has always nagged at him and stayed in the back of his mind even when he went out on missions.

“Nice attention to detail.” She said, praising Leo. My wolf didn't like it but I had to remind him that it just means that we are doing a good job training our people. “I let you guys go and gave you the information in that folder because you weren’t a threat to me or those kids. I have given you the information I had because I already had a copy of it.”

“Wait a second. Luca the kids she adopted. They were with the kids who were taken. That was the mission Leo was sent on while we were tracking down other kids and locations.” My beta said.

“That’s right. They were there.” I barely said while still trying to wrap my head around the information I just got.

“It would explain why I felt connected to them when I adopted them. Once I knew the kids were safe that day, I left. I couldn't risk someone trying to find out who I really was that day.” "There was and still is way too much going on before I can reveal who I am. And even then I am not sure if it would ever be safe. With my title as princess and soon to be queen, I am not ready for that yet."

We were quiet for a while. It seemed like everyone was just trying to process everything that was said and everything that had happened in the last few days or so.

“Knock, knock”

“Come in” I called

“Alpha, princess, gentlemen. Did you need me to pack any food for the drive to the kingdom?” Thalia said.

“Maybe some snacks for the kids and just drinks for everyone would be great Thalia” I said completely forgetting about our trip to the kingdom.

“Okay Alpha, I’ll have that ready as well as the cars by two pm.”

“Thank you Thalia” I said as she was leaving.

“Umm… Luca… Can we take a nap before we have to leave? It’s almost ten am and it’s a few hours' drive. We have barely slept the last couple days and I doubt we’ll be able to sleep once we get to the kingdom.” It was so cute the way she blushed, asking if we could take a nap while trying to avoid looking at anyone.

“Yeah I think we should.” I said as I got up from my chair, grabbing her hand. “Okay guys we’ll head out at two, be ready fifteen minutes prior. Let’s go love. I could use a nap too.” I said to her as we both walked out of the office to my room.

Once we got there I took off my shirt and handed it to my mate, leaving me in my sweatpants. I watched as she got undressed (which was impossible not to stair) and put on my shirt that came down to her knees. And damn did she look good.

“I always want to see our mate in our shirt” Said my wolf.

“Yeah, me too man. Me too” was my reply to my wolf.

I got in bed and she was just standing there at the edge of the bed, so I lifted the covers and she crawled in bed right into my arms and snuggled up against my chest. I could smell her coconut conditioner as her head came up to my chin. I wasn't sure when either one of us fell asleep till I heard a loud alarm going off on the side table. It wasn't mine. Then I felt my mate wiggling between my arms trying to get out of bed. I didn't want to move so I just pulled her closer once she hit the alarm on her phone.

"Luca, we need to get up and pack" she said while giggling. It was so cute as she tried to get out of my grasp.

"No, lets stay a little longer." I said while pulling her closer to my chest.

"No Luca I have to pee, and get the kids ready for the trip."

"Ugh fine, fine." I reluctantly let her go, and watched as she got off the bed and ran to the bathroom while closing the door behind her. She was so damn cute, I was tempted to play and chase after her but I knew we had more pressing things to handle. I got up off the bed and went over to the walk in closet
