Vacancy for a Librarian

1234 Words
Even though Harry, Evelyn's ex boyfriend sent threats messages the night before, Evelyn wasn't willing to allow that to ruin her day. She has everything planned out on how she's going to survive with her son before deciding to come to New York. Evelyn sat on the sofa with her three-year-old boy on her lap, feeding him his cereal. Ella was also visible, sitting on the sofa in a purple office dress with a white stripe, prepared for work. Ella is a nursery school teacher and she and Evelyn had decided to allow Piers to attend the school where she teach even before Evelyn and Piers got to New York. Ella had already paid for the little boy school fees, his school uniform, everything he would be needing in school. "Piers, sweetheart. It's your first day of school. You need to be a good boy, okay? You have to make mommy proud and promise to behave. Make sure you listen to your aunt Ella, alright?" Evelyn said, her eyes filled with love and affection as she looked at the little boy sitting on her lap. "I'm going to make mummy proud. I will be a good boy and stop being naughty," replied Piers with a smile on his lips, showing his little dimples and melting Evelyn's heart as she ruffled his curly hair and planted a kiss on his cheeks. "Alright Ella, let's all meet at home later. I'm also going for a job hunt, I hope I find a job quickly," Evelyn said as she dropped Piers off her lap, her gaze fixed now on Ella. I also have to work after all. "I'm sure you will. Just take it easy, okay?" Ella said with a smile "I hope you got all your documents? Please don't forget anything important." She added now with a serious expression. "Yeah, I got all the necessary documents with me," Evelyn replied with a smile. She then stood up and walked over to the table and proceeded to pack Piers' lunch and snacks. "That's Great, go get it, girl!" said Ella with an outburst of laughter, causing Evelyn to let out a light chuckle. "Anyways, Piers is a picky eater, so I've packed a variety of snacks and separated his food in case he doesn't want a particular one. Please watch after Piers for me. I trust you though," Evelyn said with an outburst of laughter before handling Piers' lunch box and bag to Ella and walking her way out of the house with Ella and Piers. "Alright honey. Mom will see you later. I love you," said Evelyn to Piers, and once again gave him a kiss on his cheeks before they went in different directions, with Ella and Piers taking a different route. Evelyn continued to walk under the scorching sun of New York, already feeling discouraged after being turned down from multiple job opportunities. Just as she was about to give up hope, she spotted a small library with a sign that read "Vacancy for a librarian." Without hesitation, Evelyn hurried to the library and entered the space. As she stepped inside, she was immediately struck by the vastness of the room. The high ceilings and wide aisles filled with shelves of books created a sense of awe. The sunlight streamed in through the tall windows, and the smell of old paper and leather-bound books filled the air. The hushed whispers of other patrons searching for their next read added to the peaceful and inspiring atmosphere. It felt like entering a different world, a world of knowledge and learning. Evelyn couldn't help but wonder if it was the same small library she had seen from the outside when she entered. Without wasting much of her time, She quickly made her way to the lady standing behind the counter. "Good afternoon, I'm here about the job opening for a librarian," Evelyn said with a smile. "Oh, yes! Welcome to High Hill library, kindly walk down that hall and turn right. The library director's office is located there," the lady replied with a smile. "Thank you, miss," Evelyn said with a smile before, swiftly making her way down to the director's office. The Library directors office wasn't hard to find as Evelyn was able to locate it soon. She knocked on the large wooden door, which bore the title "Library Director" in bold letters. Upon hearing a voice from inside inviting her in, she entered the office. The director's office served as the heart of the library, a spacious room filled with natural light. The walls were lined with bookshelves, and a large desk sat in the center. Behind the desk, a man sat in a comfortable chair, surrounded by framed degrees and certificates. The room exuded an air of authority and wisdom, as if the director had experienced and accomplished much in their role. "Good afternoon, sir," Evelyn greeted with a warm smile even though she couldn't see the face of the person behind the desk yet. "Good afternoon, miss." The gentleman, who had been focused on the system in front of him, replied as he lifted his head to meet Evelyn's gaze. Evelyn was stunned by the man's handsomeness. He was a young man, probably in his early thirties, neatly dressed in a white shirt and black pants. He had short, curly brown hair and a beautiful smile that exuded warmth and approachability. It was the perfect mix of practicality and comfort. "Please take a seat miss," said the man, cutting Evelyn off her train of thoughts as she quickly walked up to him and took a seat in front of him. His name, "Mr. Issac," was prominently displayed on the table. "So, how may I help you, miss?" asked Mr. Issac with a smile on his lips. "I'm here for the job, sir. There's a vacancy stating that you need a librarian," said Evelyn. "Oh yes! This is a new library that just opened yesterday. Let me see your CV, miss," requested Mr. Isaac while Evelyn quickly handed over all the necessary information to him. "Wow! I'm impressed, actually. You could get a better job with this CV of yours. So why do you want to work as a librarian?" asked Mr. Isaac, his gaze now directed from the CV back to Evelyn. "I am passionate about books and knowledge, and I want to help others access that knowledge. I believe libraries are essential for communities, and I want to be a part of something that helps people learn and grow. I have excellent research and organizational skills, and I am a friendly and helpful person who can work independently and as part of a team," Evelyn replied with a smile. 'Taking up the librarian work wouldn't only bring her some income, but would also assist in Piers' education as there are different books available for his studies,' Evelyn thought to herself with a bright smile. "Excellent! Well, with your CV, I don't have any more questions to ask you, miss. Is a salary of two hundred USD dollars okay for you though?" asked Mr. Isaac. "We just opened, you know, we might increase it later in the future." He added and heaved a heavy sigh. "Oh yes! I'm okay with it. I just need this job, sir," replied Evelyn with a smile. "Alright then, can you start working tomorrow, miss?" asked Mr. Isaac.
