It is going to be a long tiring night. I stood up from my bed, and went straight to the shower. Soaking myself in the tub, I closed my eyes.
I am praying that as soon as I entered the room, I'll be seeing a yellow folder in one of his cabinets.
I know that is far from what is going to happen. If the yellow folder contains illegal stuff, I am pretty sure it will be hard to find.
I sighed. I just need to find it, I hope it's there. So I can start this job and finish it as soon as possible.
I put on some clothes, tied my hair in a messy bun, packed my things and I left my room in an instant.
As I walked out of the dormitory, I saw Claude standing near the vendo machine.
"Good morning to you." He gave me a warm smile.
"Well, good morning to you too." I walked towards him.
"Ready for what life has to offer today?" He let out a chuckle.
"Always. I've seen worst."
We started strolling through the university grounds. I cannot see the sun from here since the university buildings are tall. The wind is refreshing, it gives me comfort since I have this nervous feeling every time I remember what I will be doing tonight.
"Let's walk slow, shall we? You still have thirty minutes until your next class."
I looked at my watch then replied to him. "Okay. I need breakfast. I don't want to start this day without nothing in my stomach."
He pointed to the cafeteria's direction. He confidently placed his right hand on my shoulder and tapped my head a little. "That is a very good idea, Alyanna."
As we headed down to the cafeteria, a thought came into my mind.
"How come you know my mission here and I do not know yours?" I arched my eyebrow in curiosity.
He removed his hands on my shoulder so he could face me. "You don't need to know. You got enough on your plate, Alyanna."
"Maybe I can help?"
He put his bag on the ground then took out a bottle of milk in his bag. He handed it to me.
"It's okay Alyanna. I don't think you can handle one more."
I felt belittled. At the same time, he's been helping me, and of course, somehow, I want to help him too, because I know that his job is not an easy task too, that is for sure.
"You think I cannot handle one more? Fact check, Clyde, I entered the organization first."
He laughed as he carry his bag on his bag again. As soon as he stood up, silence entered our space.
We were both staring at the people walking past us.
We weren't talking but I am sure we are thinking the same thing.
He let out a soft sigh. "For once, I want to be like them."
"I never thought asking to be a normal student would be too much."
"Well, situations took us here. The only thing I hope is that this won't fail, that everything will be worth it in the end."
I closed my eyes for a while and appreciated the silence in this open area.
"Everything will work out in the end." I said to him.
As we arrived in the cafeteria, he headed straight to the food section, while I searched for an empty seat.
Across my table, I saw Daniel, he is already looking at me.
I don't know whether to greet him or not. He really has this cold aura hugging him.
I didn't greet him. He looked occupied too.
---
For the whole duration of the class I was just looking at my watch. Staring at the window, I can clearly see how big this university is. This huge university, holding the dark secrets of this city, and to unravel those, the first step is happening tonight.
I memorized the CCTV locations, where the guards roam every night. Luckily, they only roam around outside, or if they go inside the building, they don't check all the rooms.
While I am busy catering my own thoughts, someone threw a paper at me.
"Hey." Oh, the spoiled brat.
He signaled me to go out.
When the professor turned his back on us, he silently moved his way out.
And I don't know why, but I followed him.
Outside the room I saw him giggling when he saw I followed him. What a kid.
"What now?"
He fixed my hair which took me by surprise.
"Come with me."
He took my hand and we moved swiftly out of the halls.
"Why are we here?"
He took me at the rooftop. I was confused but at the same time I am happy because I can finally see the sun from here.
"Nothing. I just feel suffocated there, and you look like you are not listening to our professor earlier, so I decided to take you here."
He walked to the other side of the rooftop, he climbed one of the walls then sat there comfortably.
"You might fall there." I ran from his direction.
"I have a good balance, partner."
"Just come down here." I said to him plainly, but I know he can sense my worry.
"Alright. Your wish is my command."
As he climbed back down, I sat on the ground instead, and instructed him to do the same.
"That's no fun, but alright."
We didn't talk much. We just stared blankly, just appreciating the peace here in this rooftop. I gave him a glance, I can see worry in his eyes but I did not dare asked him. If he wants me to know what's on his mind, he will tell me. I just met him but I feel like somehow, I can read him. For me, he is an open book, he shows what exactly he is feeling, that is why he looks innocent to me.
And I will always admire his eyes. His soft eyes.
A part of me wants to open up to him but no.
I am not going to involve anyone.
Especially not this innocent spoiled brat.
