=Alaric=
So she wasn’t completely okay with the idea of becoming a werewolf. It was like she’d hate the idea for ever. Maybe after I sell the idea a bit better?
“Hello darling.” My mother strutted through the hall passing everyone with a purpose to get to me quickly. “I don’t have much time, your father wouldn’t like me being here.”
“Why are you here?” I looked behind her making sure no one was follow who might snitch to my dad.
“The important question is, why are you out in the hallway when you’re supposed to be talking to her in there.” He nodded to the door, “You know get to know her, let her get to know you?”
“She’s held up in the bathroom.” I grumbled.
“Well that won't do.” She crossed her arms opening the door to slip inside.
=Natasha=
“Natasha.” Oh great the loving mother figure is back.
I rolled my eyes cracking open the door, “What?”
“Well first of all,” She sat on the bed patting next to her, “Come on, join me.”
“Join you?”
“Yes dear, I won’t bite.” She smiled wickedly, but I knew she was just being playful.
There was something about her that made me want to trust her. For some reason I didn’t want to disappoint her so reluctantly I emerged from the bathroom. Instead of taking a seat near her I settled on as far away as possible while still able to be seated on the bed.
“So I wanted to talk to you as the only woman on this earth who understands how much you love Alaric.” She looked down smoothing out the covers slightly, “I wanted you to know dear, this is not his own doing. He’s getting a lot of pressure from his father on this.”
“Why would his father care?” There was too much deflecting going on. Alaric was being built up as being some special guy but here I am only able to see him as my captor.
“His father cares as alpha. I care as his mother. We both care as rulers of this pack. We cannot allow you to be the weakness that destroys us.” She scooted closer to me but it was done so slyly that I hardly cared, “You’re so important Natasha. I just believe that if you understood better you wouldn’t be so upset.”
“No.” I nodded, “I’m sure I’d still be upset.”
“Patrick, my husband,” she continued, completely ignoring my jab, “He comes from a long line of werewolves. My grandmother was a human though so I have unique insight into what you’re going through.”
“So you guys have been kidnapping people for a while now?” I’m sure that’s not what she was wanting me to fixate on, but it was taking all I had to hate this woman.
“We only take our mates if they are human. We haven’t taken a random human in many many generations.”
“Is that supposed to make me feel better?” I crossed my arms making sure to keep her at as much of a distance as possible with the gap closing in.
“We stopped turning humans haphazardly because we didn’t want people to keep dying unnecessarily.” Her face was so soft I wanted to hug her sweetness so much.
“What do you mean?”
“Well, before we ran about packless terrorizing villages and towns. We turned people who survived our attacks. We didn’t have nearly as much control as we do now and we keep that control by making sure we only change those when it’s absolutely necessary.”
“So you’re trying to tell me you’re not those crazy monsters from the movies?”
“We try our hardest. We keep to ourselves, our packs are a wonderful support system and we have no need to change humans. We don’t even attack them anymore. Full moons aren’t as mindless homicidal rages like they used to be.”
“You still kidnapped me. How can I be a part of a group of people who could just take me out of my normal life?” My arms uncrossed falling to my side.
“We want to give you the life you deserve.” Her head c****d to the side as she slipped her hand to my shoulder, “Alaric was devastated when he found out how badly you’ve been treated. He wants to give you so much happiness.”
As much as I wanted to knock her hand away I couldn’t. She legitimately wanted to help me, that touch was something I had long missed from my father.
Not wanting to lose the headway Ada continued to try easing my mind, “Please, just open yourself up to the idea of becoming a part of our pack. Is there anything we could do to help you?”
I thought for a moment, was there any way for me to be more open? How bad could these people really be if such a nice woman was their ruler? “I want to be able to leave. I don’t like being stuck here.”
She nodded, but I wasn't finished.
“How can I open up to you guys if you keep me locked away like a prisoner?”
“I completely understand. I will work to make sure you are able to leave.” She patted my leg smiling brightly. “I’m bringing my son in here. I’ll be back shortly with a solution to your prisoner woes.”
I rolled my eyes, “Fine, but I’m not going to get along with him.”
“The only thing you need to agree to right now is to being around him. Get to know him.” She backed away to the door, “I really can’t continue to be the mediator between you two, so you will have to work things out for yourselves.” Looking down her nose she already could guess I was going to make things difficult, “Give him a chance. You’ll hate yourself later if you don’t.”
“I’ll agree to be around him and I won't lock myself in the bathroom. But you need to get me some outside time.”
She nodded knocking on the door, “Oh get up, get dressed and go in there before you father sees.” I could only guess she was talking to Alaric because moments later he trotted inside grabbing a large pile of clothes from the floor before heading into the bathroom.
“Why are you keeping your clothes in here now?” I called furious i hadn’t noticed it before, but then again my confines to the bathroom made me oblivious to the goings on to the rest of the room.
“Sorry.” His voice called, “I’ve been shifting a lot in here, made sense to keep some clothes.” He emerged from the bathroom in jeans and a tight black shirt, “Besides my father told me I had to stay here.”
“You always do what your father says then?” I crossed my arms not entirely convinced those were the only reasons.
“I kind of have to.” He shrugged leaning against the wall, “it’s kind of the downside to being a werewolf. When your alpha gives you an order you have to follow it.”
“So if he told you to kill me you would?” Valid question I thought, I mean what was keeping me alive?
He ran his hands over his face trying to dissect the question, “Couple of things.” He started huffing, “That would never happen. Also, that is one order I could never obey.”
“Ah,” I nodded, “So there are limits?”
“Limits. But there’s also a lot of respect too. We trust that our alpha would never give us an order that is unfair. In return our alpha expects us to follow every order he gives.” I wanted to listen to him, honestly I did, but his muscles were poking out in all the good ways. If he wasn’t someone who was going to maul me in a few weeks I might have been attracted to him.
“So what are the chances that turning me will kill me then?” I felt I was bringing up a lot of valid points right now. I wasn’t trying to convince myself to go through with it, but I also felt like I was getting a little too okay with the idea of the possibility.
He smiled holding back a laugh, “You’re not going to die. The probability of success is based on our bond. I would never attack you, so you don’t have to worry about me hurting you like that.”
“But like you’re going to bite me?”
“Well,” he paused smiling to break the tension, “Yes.”
“And there’s no way I can convince you to not turn me?” I would have very much liked to not become a werewolf, but that door was closing.
“Unfortunately,” He scratched his neck, his smile fading, “I’m sorry.” The phrase was becoming more common from him, but it was starting to lose its effect.
“I guess I just need to prepare then.” My flight or fight was fading and I was just plain tired. I was tired of sleeping in the bathroom, I was tired of being hungry, and I was absolutely tired of being a prisoner.
=Alaric=
The way she propped her feet on the bed laying claim to the entirety of the side I had grown accustomed to. Those legs my eyes couldn't stop tracing. She was wonderful. I wished she’d trust me a bit more, but I know I had no right to ask it of her yet.
I could feel her eyes on me watching my heart pounded thinking of what her thoughts could be. Was she growing to like me already? She was certainly getting used to me at least. I hid my smile as best as I could as I felt her gase linger. The last thing I needed to do was scare her off with aggressive love. My wolf was already hard to maintain around her, the last thing she needed was for the beast to be released before she was turned.
“So now that I’m agreeing to not be in the bathroom would it be too much trouble for me to get some food?”
My mind snapped back to her question, “No no!” I was far too eager to give her whatever she wanted and I knew that was going to be an issue later. “What do you want? I’ll bring it to you.”
Her small sharp finger tapped her lips as she puckered them lost in thought. Every time her lips touched that finger goosebumps cascaded over my body, “Would it be possible to get a hamburger?”
Ah a woman after my own heart. “Of course!” I sprinted out to find the first person in the hall, “Tell my mother hamburgers, fries, whatever we have to drink.” I returned quickly and she hadn’t moved.
She was actually shocked I moved so fast.
“That was quick.” She continued to blink staying still, “I guess I should have done this sooner.”
I smiled, getting a little too comfortable as I joined her on the bed. Her feet withdrew against her chest as she wrapped her arms around them. I took the hint moving myself to the floor, “Sorry.”
Shaking her head she eased up when I moved closer to her head, “You’re fine. I’m just not there yet.”
“I understand.” Taking a pause I looked to my watch, which I was happy to steal back from her treasure chest in the bathroom. “It’ll be a moment before they have the food.” She spied my watch finally but refused to mention it. I smiled back at her, “Sorry, it was kind of a gift from my father. No hard feelings about me taking it back?”
She shrugged, “I guess. I mean it was yours first.”
“Why’d you take it anyway?”
The look on her face was so cute and innocent, like I had just caught her stealing a piece of candy. “I just wanted to know how long I had been-”
I nodded but knew the real reason, “You also were keeping tabs on us. How often you were checked up on, if we kept to a time table.”
“I didn't get very far.” Her snarl wawa almost wolf-like. My wolf jumped with glee at the thought of her being like him.
“It’s our fault really.” I shrugged trying to settle my wolf down before he got out of hand, “We deliberately changed up the times. It made escaping more difficult.”
