[Kat's P.O.V]
A woman with dark hair and eyes stood before me, carrying a tiny baby in her arms. She regarded me with a vengeful look. What had come out of Elias's mouth sent a pang of hurt through me.
"Kat, I want you to meet my wife, Mia. And this little bundle is my daughter, Emerson." So what did that make me? His mistress? No way in hell was I going to stand on the sidelines and allow someone so bleak to take my place.
I turn to look at Elias, my posture rigid. "What?" I question. Maybe I hadn't heard him correctly. He smiles bleakly. "She was going to be Luna. But seeing as I've found you, you will take that spot. She will remain by my side, however. Also, if we do not have a boy heir, Emerson will take my place as Alpha. Well, until she finds her mate."
Emerson makes a slight noise of complaint. Her chubby fingers grab at her mother's shirt. Mia regards me with a superior look before taking her side next to Elias. She lays a possessive hand on his elbow, pushing Emerson into his arms.
He allows her to do so before she takes a step toward me. "This is to be the Luna?" She questions a look of disgust ripples across her features.
Elias smiles down at the baby, and for a second, I wonder how he knows what she looks like. I puff up my chest in pride. "Yes. Since no one else appears to be a better choice." That was a hit. She glares at me.
Elias is quiet, but I know he can feel the change in the air. "There is no need for this nonsense; Mia lay off. Go take Emerson and put her to bed." She does as she's told and takes Emerson from his arms. She sends me one last glare before she disappears down the hallway.
"And I have no say in this?" I growl, annoyed.
"What did you expect? I've been married to Mia for five years, and I'm not about to throw that away. You may be the upcoming Luna, and you may also be my mate, but I don't have to love you." He says darkly, shoving his hands into his jeans pockets.
"That's exactly what it means," I argue.
"Well, not to me." He growls before he storms down the hall, leaving me to fend for myself.
I needed clarification on what this meant. I was going to be Luna, but another female had a hold on my mate. The one thing I was promised was no longer promised to me. I felt betrayal ping through my chest, heartbreak, loneliness, and anger. Oh yes, I was angry. Angry at Elias for having another female, mad that he had waged war on the only pack I had known. I was enraged. My adrenaline pounded through my blood, and before I could stop myself, a loud growl erupted from my lips. My fist curl and I'm slamming my tightly closed fist into the nearest wall. This wasn't going to do; it wasn't going to do at all. I had to do something.
"You know, we have an excellent training area if you need to blow some steam. So you didn't have to take it out on the wall."
My head snapped to the person responsible for talking. It was Beta Ky. He leaned against the wall, regarding me with a pitiful look.
"I'm assuming you met Mia?" He asks, his bright blue eyes studying my face.
"Oh, I met her alright," I state, closing my eyes. I had to get my wolf under control, or there would be hell to pay.
"You have to understand Elias' situation. He was an Alpha with no Luna for quite a bit of time. He and Mia go back since they were children; you can't just push something like that away. Even if you are his mate."
"And how is this fair to me?" I ask, my chest puffing, once again anger coursing through me. "I'm just supposed to let my mate f**k another female. Hell no."
Ky's lips twitch in amusement. "I suppose not, though don't tell Mia that. I thought you two weren't even on speaking terms, yet that's what you're angry about. Not that you will still be Luna, but who's f*****g the Alpha?"
"He's supposed to be promised to me, not some common she-wolf," I snarled through gritted teeth. How dare he.
"I understand your concern, but you have to understand. Mia was there for Elias for everything. Him becoming Alpha, going blind, for everything Kat. They have a bond, and I'm sorry if that hurts you, but I have to say it."
As much as it hurt me, he was right. I wasn't here when Elias needed me, and for that, he had taken someone else in my place. Kit, however, was still very unhappy. Just the thought of Elias and Mia made my blood boil. There was no way that I could accept this. I didn't know how.
Ky watches me for a long moment before looking at the wall. "You have one hell of a right hook." He muses, his blue eyes sparkling with laughter.
"I've had practice," I mutter, taking a look at the hole in the wall as well. It was noticeable. Luckily, Elias wouldn't see it. I immediately feel a pang of guilt for even thinking that. s**t, what was I going to do?
Ky hits my shoulder playfully. "Come on; I'll have the Omega take care of that. She won't mind."
"She won't mind what?!" A voice whispers and an unfamiliar scent surrounds me. A rather strange-looking woman stands next to me. Freckles scattered every inch of skin I could see, and her hair was a dark shade of blonde. She was a little chubby compared to the ordinary wolves I had seen, but it was typical for an Omega to be different. Hell, that was the reason they were an Omega in the first place. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Omegas, they just didn't fit in.
Her watery blue eyes meet the hole in the wall, and her eyes widen. "Alpha Elias?" She questions, casting a look toward Ky.
"Actually," Ky muses, sending me a glance. "It was his mate. Omega Tara, this is Kat. She's to take the place of Luna."
Suddenly I felt like I was being scrutinized through a magnifying glass. Her eyes squint as she stares at me before suddenly, she's bobbing her head up and down. "I'll get this wall taken care of." And just like she appeared, she was gone.
