Chapter 10

1527 Words
Raina "Our wedding schedule was moved earlier? Why?" I couldn't help but ask Evo. We were inside a restaurant after he picked me up outside the company where I work. Pit was the one who drove the car back home because Evo would take me home after we had dinner. "I want to get you out of your house as early as possible. Pit told me how your family treated you these past few days. Living in the same house together with toxic people around you is not good for you and the baby's health," he explained to me. I didn't expect that even such things would be reported by Pit to his boss. "Have you told your mother about it? She doesn't like me. Surely she won't agree with our wedding." "Don't worry about my mom. Just take care of yourself and prepare for our wedding," Evo said to me, then continued eating. Evo is such a gentleman. He was the one who put food on my plate earlier when the dishes were served. Even the juice he also served me. He ordered juice for me and wine for himself because I'm not allowed to have wine. It would be harmful to the baby in my womb if I drank alcohol. Whether I admit it or not, I felt thrilled by how he treated me. I feel like I'm an important person to him, even though I know that the baby in my womb is the reason why he's so caring and considerate towards me. Greg never did what Evo does for me. When I was with my ex-boyfriend, I was always the one taking care of him. Between the two of us, I was the thoughtful and caring one. So I couldn't fully understand how he could deceive me. But I should thank Greg because if he hadn't cheated on me, I wouldn't have met Evo. I wouldn't have felt that I was an important person. After we ate, Evo immediately took me home. He accompanied me up to the front door of our house. The door opened, and my frowning sister came out as if she were deliberately waiting for my arrival. "Why are you only here now, Raina? Your bodyguard arrived earlier but you weren't here yet," she scolded me like I was just a minor and as if I was obliged to explain to her. "Your older sister is of the right age, Rina. She doesn't need to tell you what time she'll come home, especially since you're the younger sibling and not the older one." Evo answered Rina for me, which made my sister feel annoyed. "Just let her be, Evo. Don't mind her," I said to Evo. To get back at her for hurting me, I approached Evo and adjusted his tie in front of my sister. I knew it would make her jealous. "Thanks for dinner," I said with a smile. I was surprised when Evo suddenly pulled my waist and drew me closer to him. I pressed my palms against his chest so that my chest wouldn't touch his. "You're always welcome, my dear future wife," Evo replied. The hairs on the back of my neck stood up when I felt his warm breath by my ear as he softly whispered, "Why don't we add our acting to make her more jealous?" I gave him a questioning look with furrowed brows. What did he mean by adding more to our acting? What would he add to make Rina even more jealous? I no longer need to wait for Evo's answer because his lips descended on mine as a response to my secret question to him. I was surprised by what he did. I didn't expect that a kiss was what he meant. If it weren't for the tight grip of his arm around my waist, I would have pushed him away from me out of surprise. Evo's idea is great. Surely, Rina's blood is now boiling with intense jealousy. Instead of pushing Evo away from me, I closed my eyes and wrapped my arms around his neck, then wholeheartedly responded to his kiss. Evo kissed me just like how he kissed me the first time we met each other. He really is such a good kisser so I forgot that we were just acting. When he feels that I am responding to his kisses, he pulls me closer even more and deepens his kiss. A loud noise of the slamming door stopped us from kissing passionately. We were both panting when our lips finally parted. "She's gone. Congratulations! You made her pissed off," Evo's voice was soft as he looked around my whole face until his gaze landed on my lips. I could see in his eyes that he wanted to kiss me again, but before that could happen, I quickly let go of his neck and stepped back slightly. "I think you should go home now, Evo. You have a lot of work to take care of, so you should rest early," I urged him. I started feeling embarrassed because of our intense kissing earlier. "So you're going to shoo me away after using me?" he asked teasingly. My cheeks suddenly heated up in embarrassment, so I was about to turn away from him when he quickly pulled me back to claim my lips once again. But this time, it was just a quick kiss. It lasted less than five seconds before he released my lips. "Good night," he whispered, then turned around and walked out of the gate. I waited for Evo to get into his car and leave the front of our gate before I turned around and slowly walked toward the door to open it. As soon as I entered, Rina immediately grabbed me, apparently waiting for me to come inside. She was about to pull my hair, but I quickly dodged her. "Do you want to hurt me again, Rina? Try it now because I won't hesitate to tell Evo the real reason why I was hospitalized," I warned her sternly. I became alert after she sneakily hit me using the flower pot so I'd be able to dodge her this time. "You're a shameless, b***h!!!" Rina shouted loudly. Her eyes were almost bulging out in intense anger due to jealousy. "If I am a shameless b***h then who are you? A shameless criminal?" I bravely replied to her. "What's happening here? We're already inside our room but we can still hear your voices," our father asked loudly. He was walking down the stairs with my stepmother. Rina ran crying and hugged our Dad. "Raina kissed Evo in front of me, Dad. She didn't even think about how I would feel. And she also called me a criminal," she tearfully complained. "Excuse me. I wasn't the one who kissed first, it was Evo. You can even ask him," I countered with raised eyebrows at what Rina said. "And isn't it true that you're a criminal? You tried to kill me using a flower pot if you forgot about it." "Why are you torturing your sister, Rina? Isn't it enough that you hurt her by taking her fiancé?" Minerva angrily asked me. "Why is your daughter like this, Reynold?" she turned to my father. "Don't test my patience, Raina," Daddy threatened me through gritted teeth. "If I lose my patience with you, maybe—" "Maybe what, Dad? Maybe you'll help Rina to kill me? Go ahead. So you can be a family of criminals. And so all of you will rot in jail." I couldn't hold back anymore and ended up speaking harshly to my father. He was too biased as if he only had one child. I didn't expect what Daddy did next. He approached me and slapped me hard. "Ungrateful! If I had known you'd grow up with such behavior, I wouldn't have sent you to school," Daddy shouted with a red face. When I glanced at Rina, she was smiling and pleased with what she saw. "Well, thank you for spending on raising me, Dad. But I'm more grateful that I grew up not like the behavior of your favorite child who is a criminal! And don't worry because next week I will marry Evo so I will leave this hellish house!" I answered him with tears falling, then quickly walked up the stairs. "What do you mean you're getting married next week? Isn't your wedding with Evo at the end of the month?" Rina asked me but I ignored her. When I entered my room, I slammed the door shut and then dropped my body onto my soft bed. I wiped my tears and touched my cheek, which was hit by Daddy's slap. It was hurting. But my chest hurts more. How I wish someone else was my father and not Reynold Cervantes. How I wish my mother hadn't died after giving birth to me. I tightly clenched my fists. I promise that I will never treat my children like how my father treated me. And I hope Evo will also be a good father to our future child.
