Raina
"Flowers for the most beautiful lady in the world!"
I was about to open the door of my car when suddenly a man spoke beside me. His face was hidden behind a bouquet of beautiful flowers. But even though I couldn't see his face, I immediately knew who he was. None other than my ex-boyfriend. Until now, he continues to pester me, asking for a second chance, despite knowing that I am already married.
Lately, Greg has been acting like a stalker. Every time I leave the company where I work, he often waits for me outside with various gifts in hand, which I always refuse. But for some reason, it seems he never gets tired of following me around. It's as if he doesn't get exhausted.
If back then he always followed me around and showed that I was important to him, I would have been very happy. But now that I no longer have feelings for him, I only feel annoyed every time I see him.
"Can you please stop bothering me, Greg? How many times do I have to tell you that there's no chance for us to get back together," I said to him irritably.
"Why don't you give yourself a chance to be happy, Raina? I know that I'm the only one who can truly make you happy. We are the ones in love, not you and your husband," Greg replied seriously. He put down the bouquet he was holding and showed his face to me. "I can treat your baby with Evo as my own child. I will love him just as much as I love you."
I pressed my temple and slightly massaged it. My head hurts because of him. Of all the people I know, he is the most shameless. He's like a fly that keeps coming back no matter how much I try to shoo him away. After deceiving me, he has no shame in saying those words to me.
"Do you see I'm sad, Greg? Don't you see that I'm happy with Evo? And even if we break up, I'll tell you again that there's no hope for us to get back together. I never go back to something I've already thrown away," I firmly replied to him.
I opened the door of my car but he stopped me from getting inside.
"Your husband is always busy with his work as a politician, Raina. Like now, I know he's not here because there's a leadership seminar in Baguio for the congressmen. He always leaves you, so you're not happy," insisted Greg.
"If you try to stop me from leaving, I'll call the police and have you arrested," I firmly threatened him. It's tiring to put some sense into his mind. I don't want to talk to him any longer.
"I won't get tired of following you until you realize that what I'm saying is right, Raina," said Greg to me. But he didn't attempt to stop me from getting into my car.
As soon as I got into my car, I immediately started the engine and drove away from Greg, who was watching my car.
I went to the house of my client, Mrs. Mendoza. She is my personal client, meaning she did not go through our company. She has been my client before. I was the interior designer she hired when she had a new house built as a gift for her eldest child when they got married. Now, she wants to redecorate the living room and bedrooms of her house, so she hired my services again.
"Good afternoon, Mrs. Mendoza. I'm sorry I was a bit late today," I apologized to her upon arriving at her house.
"It's okay, Raina. You only have one room left to do," replied the kind lady with a smile. "By the way, how is your baby? Are you close to giving birth?"
"My baby is fine. But it's still far from the time I'll give birth. I'm only three months pregnant, Mrs. Mendoza," I replied to her with a smile.
"I heard that your mother-in-law isn't treating you well? If I were you, I'd leave your husband and marry my second son instead," said Mrs. Mendoza, her tone filled with regret.
When Greg was still my boyfriend, Mrs. Mendoza was already trying to set me up with her second son. She said she really liked me and wanted me to be her daughter-in-law.
"My mother-in-law is kind, Mrs. Mendoza. Maybe I just did something she didn't like," I defended my mother-in-law. I don't know who is spreading rumors that my mother-in-law isn't treating me well. But if this reaches her, she'll surely think I'm the one spreading these unpleasant stories.
"But I heard—"
"I'll go upstairs now to work," I interrupted whatever she was about to say. Then I climbed the stairs to head to the last room I needed to work on.
I became so busy working that I didn't notice the passing of time. Finally, I finished redecorating the last room in Mrs. Mendoza's house, so I decided to go down to the living room. I was still at the top of the stairs when I heard her talking to someone in the living room, so I decided not to go down yet.
"The decoration of your house is so beautiful, Cora. Who is the interior designer you hired? I also want to hire their services. I'll have my living room redecorated too," I heard the woman talking to Mrs. Mendoza, who was probably her friend, say.
"The interior designer I hired is very talented and beautiful. She is also the interior designer of my first son's house that we visited the other day," Mrs. Mendoza proudly said.
I secretly smiled. I also gain new clients when I am recommended to other clients by my existing clients.
"Give me her contact number so I can call her," Mrs. Mendoza's guest said. The person she was talking to had their back turned, so I couldn't see their face from where I was standing.
"She is upstairs finishing the design of the last room. When she comes down, I will introduce you to her," Mrs. Mendoza said with a smile. "My interior designer is kind and beautiful. I even want her to be my daughter-in-law, but she is loyal to her husband even though her mother-in-law doesn't treat her well. Her mother-in-law has a bad attitude."
"Mrs. Mendoza. I'm done with my work," I called her attention. It's not good for them to talk about my life and how my mother-in-law treats me, so I immediately called her to cut off their conversation.
"Come here, Raina. I'll introduce you to my friend who will be your new client," Mrs. Mendoza said to me with a smile.
As I was walking down the stairs, Mrs. Mendoza's friend suddenly turned to look at me. I almost stumbled on the stairs when I saw that it was my mother-in-law she was talking to. Her face immediately darkened when she saw me. She probably realized that she was the ill-tempered mother-in-law her friend was referring to.
"You are the interior designer of my friend," my mother-in-law said to me with a serious face.
"Do you know each other?" Mrs. Mendoza couldn't help but ask my mother-in-law.
"Yes. I am her mother-in-law whom you mentioned has a bad attitude and doesn't treat her well," my mother-in-law replied to her friend before turning to me. "You're really great, Raina. That's what you've been telling others about me. I wasn't wrong in not wanting you for my son."
"It's not what you think, Mom. I'm not—"
"I'm going home, Cora. Let's meet next time," my mother-in-law suddenly said goodbye to her friend before turning around and hurriedly leaving the house.
"I'm sorry, Raina. Did I make a mistake?" Mrs. Mendoza said to me worriedly.
"It's okay, Mrs. Mendoza. I'll just explain to my mother-in-law." I quickly left the house to follow Evo's mother. I caught up with her as she was about to get into her car. "Wait, Mom!"
My mother-in-law waited for me, but when I got close to her, she gave me a strong slap.
"I never thought that you're such a kind of a woman, Raina! My son made a mistake marrying you. I want you to divorce him as soon as possible," she angrily said to me before getting into her car.
I could only watch as my mother-in-law's car drove away. I couldn't help but let out a deep sigh. Now her anger towards me has only increased due to her mistaken belief that I'm spreading rumors about her mistreating me.
