Aurora’s POV
I decided to call Kanaan, we had such a good time talking that maybe he could distract me from this dream that’s playing on a constant loop in my head. I had originally asked if he wanted to go on a run with our wolves but he said after spending nearly a month in wolf form a few months ago he’s been trying to give his wolf, Maverick, a break. He didn’t really elaborate why he was in wolf form for so long but I figured I could ask when I saw him.
I was sitting at the table in the library, reading while I waited. My hair curled into perfect ringlets, wearing my torn blue jeans and my sky blue off the shoulder crop top that made my olive skin look even darker. The library was one of my favorite places to be, it was the one thing that let me escape when I was a kid. Books. As I sat here reading one of my favorites, The Last Ride, I felt Harmony reaching out to me
“You’re nervous, why?”
“Well he’s cute, nice and only 17. What if me feeling drawn to him is something more than a friendship? Maybe he’s our mate.”
“I don’t know. I would have recognizing his scent. I would know if we were mates, our senses are more heightened than yours and I don’t entirely feel drawn to him. It’s more a feeling of curiosity.”
“So you don’t think he’s our mate?”
“I don’t know. I guess it’s possible but I just don’t get that feeling from Maverick.”
I heard someone clear their throat, snapping me out of my conversation and staring right at him. His brown hair fixed to spike in just the perfect way on top, his almost grey eyes staring at me that looked more memorizing than the first time I saw them. As most male wolves he towered over me with his slim yet fit body complimented by his tight black shirt.
“Kanaan, hey.”
“Hey, looks like I interrupted a good book and an interesting conversation with your wolf based on your expression.”
“No, no. You didn’t interrupt anything. I’ve read this book a thousand times with my brother and Harmony was just checking in.”
“Well that’s nice of her, may I?” As he motioned towards the chair. I nodded and grinned.
“So, I’m really glad you called. I thought maybe I was crazy.”
“Crazy?”
“Well I thought maybe there was some reciprocated interest but when you didn’t call it made me wonder.”
“Oh no! I’m sorry, things have been crazy with my friend finding her mate and all. She literally wants to tell me about every breath he takes so it’s been a little time consuming.”
“Well I’m glad you found some time to escape for little ole me.” I felt myself blush.
“So the library, huh?”
“Yeah, I mean it’s the one place that I could think of where I’m comfortable and kind of matches my personality.”
“Oh yeah? I mean I could tell the party wasn’t really your scene.”
“Oh you picked up on that?” Just when he was about to answer his eyes went black and I could tell I wasn’t talking with Kanaan anymore.
“Maverick, give him back control.”
“I need to speak to Harmony.” Before I could even respond Harmony pulled herself to the front of my mind.
Harmony’s POV
“Why do you need to talk to me?”
“Harmony, she’s in trouble. You can’t trust Kanaan. I love him, he’s part of me but what he’s being pulled into will hurt her. He’s blocking me out a lot, having secret meetings and all I know is Rory is their topic. Protect her. She will listen to you, I need you to walk her out of here before she regains control.”
“I need more than that Maverick. How can I protect her?”
“Just keep your distance from him, don’t let her get too close to him. Right now he’s dangerous. Go!” He commanded at me.
I got up and walked us away from the table and towards Rory’s car. I saw Maverick walking Kanaan the other direction. Once we were in the car I gave her back control.
“Harmony, what the hell!? Why are we leaving?”
“We can’t trust him, Kanaan I mean. He’s involved in something, something that will hurt you.”
“Fine, I’ll be careful but I really don’t think you have anything to worry about.”
I wish that was true. I remember the first time she heard me speak,
*Flashback*
“Rory, hello. I’m Harmony. I want you to know that I’m here. And that I’m sorry for what happened to our mother. She was a beautiful woman and doting mother, I can see that in your memories just know I will always protect you the way she would. The way Magan and Dom have for the last 12 years.”
I felt her begin to cry. She couldn’t really respond as we were sitting in her mathematics class. Apparently her teacher wasn’t a fan of wolves communicating within themselves. She wouldn’t really get it being a fairy and all. She is just one in the same, she has no idea what it feels like to have two parts of yourself. I could feel her get up and start walking away from class when I got a response.
“Harmony. That’s a beautiful name, the Moon Goddess did good. Thank you for that, I will always keep us grounded and pure. I promise to always trust you even when it’s hard. I love you, Harmony. Thank you for making yourself known.”
*Flashback Over*
Aurora’s POV
As I was driving home, my car started to ring “Mom” the caller ID read. I hit the button to answer,
“Hey mom, I’m headed home now.”
“That was a short date, everything okay?”
“Wasn’t a date but yeah, I think so. Just something weird with his wolf. It’ll be fine, what’s up?”
“Honey, your brother’s flight got delayed so he’ll be home for dinner instead of lunch. So if you want to hang out with Hayley for a while before you come home that’s definitely okay.”
“Mom, he’s been gone for 4 years. I want to give him the first and biggest hug before any of you, I’ll come home and hang with you until he lands. Do you think he’ll be happy to be home?”
“Of course, honey. You know how much he hated leaving. He wouldn’t have at all if he didn’t have to take the mentoring from the other alphas. He didn’t want to leave you, he knew no one could protect you from Pay if he did.” We both laughed together. She was right, ever since they took me in Jett was always my protector and best friend. He was 4 years older than me and 5 years older than Pay, so he always felt it was his job to protect us. But when he turned 18, dad told him he had to start his preparations to be Alpha. He wanted him to take the title when he turned 22 and with that birthday just three short months away it was time for him to come home and prepare for the Alpha Ceremony.
“I can’t wait to see him.”
“I know honey, I can’t either.”
