Aurora’s POV
**I’m running in the woods, I’m almost to the stream but just as I’m about to hit the water he tackles me, “you’re mine now”. He yanks me around to look at his face, “what do you want with me?!” I shouted at him as he attempted to force me to come with him. I pulled myself away from him with all of my might but his grasp was so tight I could feel the circulation in my arm giving way. I kept screaming for help, but no one came. Just as I was about to give in, I felt it. Her hand on my shoulder.**
“Ror, mom made breakfast come on.” I heard Payton say as he knocked on my door.
I sat up quickly, rubbing my eyes. I look around my room thanking the goddess it was just a dream. I must have been kicking in my sleep, my legs felt like I had actually been running. I was covered in sweat again and this time I was more confused than ever. The dream had been the same for nearly two years, now I figured out who the man’s voice belonged to and it changes. That can’t be a coincidence right?
“Rory, honey! Hayley and April will be here in 15 minutes you need to come down and eat.”
I quickly jumped in the shower to rinse the sweat from my body, threw on some jeans and an old tank top and flew down the stairs.
As I sat at the island moving my food around with my fork I kept glancing at mom as she dried the dishes.
“Honey if you have something to say, you know I’ll listen.”
I placed my fork down and thought if I actually wanted to say it out loud. “Okay mom, but you can’t tell dad.” She motioned like she was zipping her lips. “You know that dream I’ve been telling you about for a while,” she nodded and looked at me quizzically “it changed,” I whispered to make sure no one else could hear. She stopped drying the dishes and looked directly at me, it felt as if her ocean eyes were looking straight into my soul. “Go on.” I explained to her that I recognized the man’s voice that he was someone that my biological father knew, which is a revelation I had yesterday afternoon on the way to the party and then I told her about my dream last night. “That can’t be a coincidence can it?” She looked at me with worry.
“Honey do you remember if your mom ever had any dreams like that? Like dreams that seemed almost prophetic?”
“Honestly mom, I was four when she died so no. Why do you ask that?”
“Honey I think—“ she stopped as Hayley and April came in.
Hayley called us both to plan a girls day so she could tell us all about her mate. April looked like she didn’t want to be here, she’s wearing one of her baggy t shirts with some tight jean shorts that hugged her butt perfectly. Her beautiful black hair pulled into a lose pony tail so you could see her brown eyes, which was shocking since she always used her hair to cover them. She compared them to mine and Hayley’s on a regular basis, even though we reminded her how beautiful they are.
“GOOD MORNING BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE” Hayley sang as they entered the kitchen. She was looking positively radiant in her black crop top and long pink maxi skirt. This girl could seriously pull off anything.
“Can we go please? I want to hurry up and get to my one on one time with Ror.” April said to Hayley smugly. They love each other but because their personalities are so different we each have one on one time with one another to help us bond and reconnect and honestly just vent about the other person. We always make it a point though to have a girls day all together when one of us has news, hence today.
I got up to kiss my moms cheek just as my dad was entering. “Hey girls, congratulations on your mate Hayley. Ian is a great young man, I know he’ll treat you well.” He said in his cheerful tone.
“Thank you, Alpha. I know we are suppose to come to you with all mating ceremonies, but Ian and I aren’t quite ready for that yet. As soon as we are though we will call you. Swears.” She says as she bows to my dad and he just simply nods at her.
As the girls and I started to walk out the door, my mom stopped me, “dear, try not to worry about this dream. We will figure out what it means, in the mean time I do need to discuss it with your father. He needs to know you remember the man harassing you in these dreams and maybe speak to the Elders about it as well.” I simply hug her, I knew that she would know what to do. Although I really didn’t want my dad knowing, it probably was for the best. My mom has always believed my dreams are some sort of prophecy trying to work itself out in my mind. I’ve always thought she was full of crap until the story changed.
“I swear to Goddess, no s*x was had. We just laid there and talked for hours until we fell asleep it was amazing.” She looks like a freaking Disney character dancing into our favorite coffee shop speaking of her true love.
“Yeah right, you’re just leaving out the juicy bits cause you’re finally recognizing what it means to have a private life.” April said judgingly as Hayley told us of her night and who she was mated to. I always knew she would mate with someone in leadership, she has this confident aura that radiates from her that would help a strong leader like Ian. He and I have always hung out together when Hayley couldn’t come to events with me, he was the only one I could kind of relate to since he hated being in leadership and I had no idea what it meant to truly be a part of the pack leadership. I’m hoping that she will make him realize being a Gamma by blood isn’t such a bad thing and that he will strengthen her to help remove those pesky insecurities she tries to never acknowledge. Ever since her dad left her mom, she’s really struggled with abandonment issues and not feeling good enough. I didn’t understand it until one day I just blatantly asked.
*Flashback*
“I don’t understand Hay, you’re beautiful, kind, confident. Who the hell wouldn’t want to be with you?! Why the heck do you think you’re not good enough” I yelled into her face as we argued with each other.
“BECAUSE HE LEFT!!” She screamed as tears began to fall from her eyes. I grabbed her into a hug and just held her tight.
“He didn’t just leave my mom, Rory...he left me too. He left me and now he’s got his new chosen mate and her kids. He doesn’t call me anymore. When he first left he called every few days to make sure I was okay, now we haven’t spoken in a month. He doesn’t call, I can’t go over there. He left me. So if my own father can leave me, how will I ever be good enough for my mate?”
*Flashback Over*
When I came back to reality, we were sitting in our favorite booth at “Flora’s”. My parents didn’t like that we left pack territory, but with all of the gossipers around the pack we figure it is safest to come out into the human world where they could care less about a bunch of teen girls. Funny thing was we weren’t the only ones who thought of the idea, Flora, the owner, is one of our kind too who just couldn’t stand the “small town gossip” that our pack seemed to be full of.
“Okay, so spill. Is he a good kisser, when are you going to mate, did you mark him, have you picked colors for your mating ceremony,” I teased in a hushed tone as Hayley laughed and blushed. “Don’t worry ladies I will tell you everything, I just can’t believe that I found him. He is seriously the sweetest guy. I mean you saw us, Ror, all hot and heavy from the start then we start going towards his room and we have this deep convo about how we want to take things slow and really get to know each other. Not that we’re going to reject each other or anything but we just want to have that dating period that humans get you know.” Seeing Hayley like this, so happy and full of life after finding her mate gives me hope that maybe one day my mate won’t be so bad.
We sat and listened to Hayley talk for a couple of hours. She was so lost in what she was saying that April and I had started having our own separate conversation about this new part in my dream.
“So what do you think?” I ask her in a worried tone
“I think your mom’s right to talk with your dad and an Elder. I think that screams prophecy and it seems the only way you get the next piece is by solving the puzzle in the previous dream.”
“That’s what I was afraid you were going to say, I just don’t know if I’m ready to accept that. What if that makes everything change?”
“It may change things but it won’t change that we have your back no matter what” she motioned towards Hayley and herself and smiled at me. She was right, at least if these dreams really do mean something I know that I have my family and friends. Hearing April’s words about friendship makes me realize that I do have a new friend that I would love to see again, one that could change everything too.
