Chapter 2 Darkness -Cade- It's Friday night and I don't want to see Grace yet. We had a little argument two days ago about the starlet who flirted with me at the ball event. So I sent her the flowers to appease her. She gets jealous easily, knowing that those women will throw themselves at me regardless. With my financial stature, throngs of women will vye for my attention to satisfy their intentions, may it be for fame or s****l reasons. I had planned to hang out with my friend Jace tonight at the Stallions Bar. I was in the middle of my third shot when my chauffeur texted me that he had got an emergency at home, so I sent him away. I looked at Jace and he was already on his fourth drink when I got another text. This time it's from Grace. She said she was in a bar as well and her girlfriend got into a fight and she got involved in it. She needed me to pick her up. I looked at Jace thinking that I still might be able to drive with just three shots of whiskey. I would just have to borrow his car and drop Grace off, and I'd come back for him afterwards. Jace gave me the key. I got out of the bar a little buzzed. I can usually handle my drink pretty well, considering my tolerance. I rarely drive myself, especially with a Porsche car. I cruised fine along the freeway and exited off the ramp. The car had so much power that I intended to crank it up to beat the yellow light when another car sharply turned from the right direction. It was too late before I was able to hit the brakes. I collided with the rear of that car and got thrown onto the freeway barrier wall. The last thing I remembered was a splintered glass and darkness. In the hospital... I woke up...in darkness. I heard muffled sobbing sounds. That's from my mom. I lifted a finger to make sure that I was not dreaming. My head hurts so badly I groaned. I heard someone call for the doctor. There was chaos going on inside my room. Then I remembered what happened. Suddenly my whole body felt like being thrashed so hard that every bone was aching. I can't feel my right leg, and I want to look at it, but I can't see anything. "Cade, honey...", It's my mom. In a terse voice, she hurried to my side. "M- Mom?" I wanna make sure that she's really here. I feel inebriated. I can't see anything and I feel like I'm in total oblivion. The doctor hurriedly came in telling everyone to leave him alone with the patient. "Mr. Montgomery, I am Doctor Gibson. Do you remember what happened to you?", the doctor asked. "Yes, but why can't I see anything? What's going on?! Where's my mom? Mom?! Grace?!", I'm now having a meltdown. "Mr. Montgomery. This will be hard but I gotta tell you the situation. Your irises in both eyes got hit by the little splinters of glass that cause severe damage to your irises.", the doctor explained. My mind refused to process the information. I don't want to admit what I feared. Does this mean I am blind?! "What the f*ck does that mean?! Am I blind now?! What the f*ck?! F*ck! F*ck!", I now started to grab the IVs stuck in both my arms as I felt them. "Nurse! Nurse! You got to settle down, Mr. Montgomery. Nurse!" the doctor said as he started yelling for help. He was trying to stop me when I heard footsteps. A pair of two hands on both sides held both my arms still. "I can't take this! Tell me, am I gonna be blind forever?! Tell me doc?! F*ck! Let go of me!" I scream in panic now. The doctor injected something in me that made me feel so tired that I started to calm down. I wanted to scream more but I was just so consumed with pain that I couldn't help the tears that escaped from the corners of my eyes. My eyesight. They're gone. I can not use them anymore. My all-so well-planned life is gone. My thoughts ran awry and my lids started to drip close. Together with my dreams and hopes, they were taken away into abysmal pain and darkness.
