Mama Kana

Chapter 5

“Mama Kana, are you mad?” Jacob asked Kana when their class ended. It’s the only time that he can call Kana ‘Mama Kana’ because when the class started, it must be Teacher Kana or Teacher Kana. Jacob is the only one who addresses him as Mama Kana after their class.

He looked at Jacob and smiled to assure him that he’s not mad. “Why would I be mad?”

Jacob pouted. “Because I didn’t get your permission for the shirt.”

“Are you happy, Jacob?” Kana asked and Jacob just nodded his head.

“Then I won’t be mad. As long as my baby is happy. But why did you give me that shirt?” He’s curious that’s why he asked Jacob.

“Because you are like my Mama. You always treat me nicely and you always take care of me just like a real Mama. And I love you, Mama Kana.” Jacob hugged me and kissed my cheek.

“I love you, too. I’m not mad, okay? I won’t be mad at a cute boy like you.”

“Jacob, Grandma’s already here.” We heard Mrs. Peterson ‘s voice calling Jacob.

“Grandma!” Jacob runs in his Grandma’s direction.

“Teacher Kana, we’ll get going now. Jacob, go say goodbye.”

“Bye, Mama Kana. See you tomorrow. I love you.” Jacob hugged and kissed him again before returning to his Grandma who’s smiling widely.

After making sure that all of his students are picked up by their parents, Kana checked the room to make sure that all of the windows and doors are closed before going home.

He’s going to be alone again. Teaching is the only escape from his loneliness because when he’s at school, he’s surrounded by cheerful children.

He’s an orphan. His parents died because of a car accident when he was 14 years old. His Grandma took care of him but she passed away when he’s 19 years old. He doesn’t have any other close relatives. Basically, he’s living alone in this world.

Even though his parents and Grandma died, he continued studying with the help of the money he inherited from his Grandma. He works while studying. Sometimes he would be getting 2 or 3 jobs for a day to save money. His sleep was just about 1-4 hours.

And here he is now. He owns a small school. All of his hard works from the past are all exchanged with what he has now. He’s contented but not happy because he’s still alone. With no allies in his life except for his best friends.

His best friends are Caleb and Adriel. They became friends way back in their high school.

Kana is a loner and that’s the reason why he became a laughing-stock in their class. No one wants to befriend him.

He was bullied by some of their classmates. They even came to the extent that they beat up Kana because Kana didn’t want to fight back. No one dared to interrupt the bullies. Except for Caleb and Adriel.

They came to the rescue and they beat up the bullies that punched Kana’s lovely face. If the teacher didn’t, the bullies will surely be beaten up real well.

After that incident, Adriel and Caleb always join Kana for lunch. They even sit with him in class and no one ever dared to bully Kana. Of course, they’re afraid of the two, especially Adriel who’s very good at Muay Thai.

And ever since that day, Kana’s life has been chaotic because of Caleb’s non-stop talks.

Caleb and Adriel are both investors in his small school. Caleb is also a teacher for preparatory students, while Adriel for kindergarten and Kana for the nursery students.

That’s how their friendship starts. And for Kana, it’s better to have a few friends who are true to you than having many friends because some of them may not be true.

And now, he’s happy because he’s surrounded by his cheerful students including Jacob. He treats Jacob as his son because he’s very lovable. And Jacob also loves him that’s why he calls him ‘Mama Kana’ after their class.

He loves Jacob as his own. He can do anything for Jacob as long as he can. Jacob is one of those who can make me happy.

His phone suddenly buzzed and Caleb’s name appeared. His annoying best friend is calling again. He answered the call.

“Hello, Caleb. What do you need now?”

“Hello, Kana. I just want to ask if we can come over to your house. We mean Adriel and I.”

“What are you going to do here? Annoy me again?” Kana asked his friend.

“Well, it’s a part. But the real reason is we want to eat dinner with you. We’ll cook our dinner then we’ll eat at your house. Is it okay?” Caleb asked for his permission.

“All right. Come over if it’s what you want. You can even sleep here. I’ll prepare the guest rooms.”

“Oh, what a good friend. I’ll stay for the night. I’ll inform Adriel and ask him if he wants to stay. Be there at six. Goodbye, Kana.”

“Goodbye.” Kana then hanged up the call.

Six in the evening, Caleb and Adriel came together. They even have the ingredients they need for their dinner.

They cooked and prepared the dishes. They talk about a lot of things over dinner. How was their day? The children that they are teaching. He also told them about what happened on weekends, including the mall and park scene with Jacob and Mew.

They all adore Jacob because of his jolly attitude. Jacob is a very friendly boy that’s why he caught the attention of the 3 best friends. Even though he’s still at nursery, Caleb and Adriel already know him because he always clings to Kana after class and even calls him ‘Mama Kana’ that’s why Caleb tease him sometimes.

“So, Mama Kana finally meets the father of Jacob. How do you feel?” Caleb asked with a teasing tone.

Kana glared at him because he calls him Mama Kana. “He’s friendly. He even bought me shirts to thank me because I go with them.”

“So Jacob plays cupid with the two of you. Seems like he wants you to be his Mom. Speaking of Mom, why did we never saw his Mom and Dad?” Adriel asked.

“Yeah. It’s always Mrs. Peterson who fetch him. Well, it’s understandable for his father because he’s a very busy person.” Caleb asked.

“Jacob is the adopted son of Mew. So he doesn’t have a Mom.” I answered what Mrs. Peterson told me.

“Does Jacob know that?” Adriel asked.

“I don’t know.”

“Why you don’t know?” Caleb asked.

“Because I’m not you,” I answered Caleb and Adriel laughed.

But Caleb didn’t get what he’s trying to say. “Of course you’re not me. I’m Caleb and you’re Kana.”

Adriel smacked his head and say, “He means that he’s not just like you who’s very eager to know every detail of someone’s life.”

“That hurts, Adriel. I’m just asking but I get a headache in return,” Caleb said while rubbing the back of his head.

“Stop bickering you two. Let’s just sleep. We need to be early tomorrow. I already prepared the rooms for you.”

“Okay, let’s sleep. Goodnight!” Caleb said and walked to his designated room.

“Goodnight, Kana.” Adriel tapped his shoulder before walking to his room and Kana just nodded.

It’s so much for a night!
