Chapter 1
“What? What else are you waiting for? Do something! You must hurry. The show is already starting or you just better bring her directly inside Mr. Lee’s suit. Surely, she will not be able to escape,” the man smiled evilly as he said those words. Lightning flashed and thunder rumbled outside. The rain heavily fell on Monica's black umbrella. She never thought that day would come so soon. It was never in her wildest dream that one day, she would be walking all alone in that place. The weather was gloomy and it felt like it was trying to match Monica’s heart. Her heart tightened as she tried to take a walk away from the place. Her tears fell down unstoppably. How could that happen to her? Her heart was aching as She needed to quickly leave the Watson family’s house. Today was the last day that she saw her boyfriend. With that thought, she felt like there was a stabbing pain inside her chest. She wouldn’t be able to see him anymore. She felt difficulty in her breathing as she took her step away from the place. She had imagined everything about her life with him so she didn’t know where and how to start her life. Her tears welled up as she was thinking of the days that they were together. Just like yesterday, he came and picked her up at work so that they could have dinner together in a nearby restaurant before he dropped her home. They had lots of dreams together. There were a lot of memories they wanted to share as they grew old. They wanted to get married after a year but what happened? Why did God let this happen to them? It was worse than breaking up. How could she ever move on from this? It was not another woman who stole him away from her but it was death. Her boyfriend met with an accident and died instantly. A drunken man recklessly drove despite his condition and bumped into her boyfriend’s car which caused his death. Just like that, their dreams together vanished. Alyssa walked into an alley as she tried to reach the main road so she could call a taxi. It was almost ten in the evening and she still has to go to work tomorrow. The rain hadn’t stopped either. It was as if it wanted to be with her while mourning. She roamed around her eyes hoping she could see a taxi. For sure, her grandfather was already waiting for her or probably, he wasn’t at all. They were going out for dinner. There was a dinner that he had to attend to. They had to meet the family of the man that her cousin was going to marry. Because of the sudden twist of events, Alyssa felt that she lost all her strength. She had to lean on the wall next to her for support before she continued to walk. It was just only a few steps before she could reach the main road. She was hoping from there, there would be a taxi. The rain heavily fell and the strong wind continued to blow. The wind touched her face and coldness ran down through her spine. She was walking when all of a sudden, a black van suddenly stopped in front of her. There were two men who got out of the van. They were both wearing masks. Her eyebrows knitted together when she realized that they looked like goons with the black t-shirt and jeans. Before she could even take precautionary measures, he was forcefully pulled by the men. She was pushed inside the van and from nowhere, she felt someone covered her mouth and nose before she totally lost consciousness. She woke up with a bit dizzy and blurry vision but she knew that she was in an unfamiliar place. Alyssa was sitting in a chair and the two men from earlier were standing in front of her. The other was holding a glass of water. “Here, drink this. For sure you are already thirsty,” the man offered her a glass of water. It was odd. They kidnapped her and why were they being so kind? But she was indeed thirsty so without thinking about anything else, she took it and drank the water. In her mind, she would just find an opportunity to escape from those people. “I am really sorry, Miss. We know that you are afraid and confused right now but know that we do not have any choice but to do this for our family. It will cost lives if we will not be able to bring a woman exchange of the one we have earlier.” One of the kidnappers apologized. They were still wearing their masks so she couldn’t see their faces. She didn’t know if they were sincere or not with the apology. Confusion was in her heart. Who could be behind that abduction? As far as she knew, she was not an enemy of anyone. She was trying to live at peace with everyone she met so how could that unfortunate event happen towards her right after the burial of the man she loved? How could fate be so cruel to her? “W-what do you mean? Who are you? Why are you doing this?” She asked one after the other but the two didn’t give an answer. The two men were just looking at her. Then after a couple of minutes, she suddenly felt hot. There was an uncomfortable feeling inside her. The two men looked at each other and then nodded their heads as if saying that everything had happened according to their plan. “Come with us,” the men said and then they both held her arms. They helped her walk and then they took her out of the room. It was just after a few more steps when they opened another room and left her inside. They directly put her in bed. “Miss, just lie down there. You need this the most with the feeling that you have,” after saying that the two men left her all alone inside the room. It was hot and itchy all over her body. Alyssa started to scratch herself but that didn’t relieve what she was feeling. Alyssa couldn’t understand what exactly was happening. Then she realized that only happened to her after she drank the water given by one of the men. Could it be that they had put something on it? How could she be so careless? But no matter what she would think at that moment, it wouldn’t change the situation she was into. Even with the uncomfortable feeling, she tried to stand up. Alyssa forced herself to get out of the room or else she could no longer imagine what could happen to her. She quickly grabbed her sling bag and took her phone out. She tried to escape. Luckily no one was in the hallway. She tried to walk another step and then luckily, she saw that the door next to the room was open so she got inside of it. Again, she didn’t have any second thoughts. It was better to be inside that room than to stay inside that place where those men had left her. She was already in danger so what harm was she afraid of happening? No matter what she would choose, her fate was uncertain. The room was dimmed. The only light was the one on the side of the bed. She roamed around the place and no one was there. Alyssa couldn’t hold herself so she crawled on top of the bed as she slowly lost her strength. Her mind was hazy. She was so confused with everything that was happening. Who were those people and why did they have to abduct her and bring her to such a place? What did she have done to them? Was losing the person she loved still not enough? She felt miserable amidst the electrifying heat that she was feeling inside her body. She couldn’t explain but it felt like she was burning inside. Water. She wanted water thinking that it could lower down her temperature. Her throat was so dry. She never felt that way before. She wondered what those guys put in the water that made her feel like that. Suddenly, the sound of the water that was flowing inside the bathroom stopped. In a quick second, she heard the door open. Her heart was beating so fast and she felt butterflies inside her stomach. She could see the silhouette of the man that just came out. It was only his abdomen that was covered. She swallowed a lump in her throat because of the unexpected ambiance that was in front of her eyes at that very moment. She couldn’t help but close her eyes as she smelled his scent. It was mind and lemon. Slowly, she could feel his footsteps approaching her direction. “It’s so hot…”
