Chapter 3 It didn’t take long and she finally reached home. It was still dark outside since it was just four in the morning. Alyssa quietly entered the house and went upstairs to her room. She couldn’t describe the emotions that were inside of her heart. She was supposed to be crying and mourning over her boyfriend’s death but another situation to think of suddenly happened. She walked straight inside her bathroom to take a shower. Her mind was still filled with a lot of things. She quickly removed everything that’s covering her body. She opened the shower and went underneath it. The water flowed down her body just like how her tears flowed down from her eyes. She felt like she was suffocating. She felt miserable. Her heart was broken. She was supposedly grieving because she just lost her boyfriend but losing her virginity also added up to the wound in her heart. What happened in her life? Why did she have to be abducted by two unknown men and drugged? Who was behind everything that happened to her last night? As she heard the sound of the water running from the shower, her cry also became loud. She was just a simple woman. She was content with whatever she had and never been greedy so why did she have to lose the most precious man in her life? She couldn’t understand. She tried to find an answer but she couldn’t. She was hurting so much. There was disbelief inside her. Her world felt like it spinned and an avalanche crushed down upon her. She couldn’t help but think of those moments when she shared laughter with her boyfriend and whispered promises to each other. Now, those supposedly happy memories felt like nightmares. She was suffocating just thinking about all those things. After a couple of minutes being under the running water, Alyssa turned off the shower and left. Now, she was standing in front of the full-length mirror. She could see her whole body and she started to hate herself. She knew that nothing would be able to fill the emptiness that she felt. There was no amount of tears that could wash away the pain of the love that she had lost. The future that was left unfulfilled. She felt more miserable when she saw what was on her body. There was a hickey under her collarbone and when she tried to look at the different parts of her body, it was not just there. It was all over her body and then there were even between her thighs. What was that man thinking? It looked like he consumed her with all his soul last night. It looked like he never was content in taking her virginity and he even put a mark all over her body. Even her boyfriend wasn’t able to do that. Tears started to form again in the corner of her eyes. She wanted to blame herself but no matter how she thought about what happened last night, she didn’t have any control of herself because of the drug. Alyssa didn’t know for how long she was in front of her dressing table. She finally found a cloth that would perfectly cover all the hickeys. She was wearing a round neck dark blue t-shirt paired with a black jogger pants. Where would she start? She felt that her world became meaningless after what happened to her. Her heart was so heavy. The weight of grief and anger was pressed down upon her shoulders. She knew that after what happened last night, she wouldn’t be the same anymore. She had to think about something that would keep her busy. Probably, if she would be able to see something that she would pay attention to, she would be able to move on from James’ death and the loss of her virginity to a stranger. She was looking at herself in the mirror when she heard a knock on the door. Alyssa got up and then she opened the door. It was her best friend and at the same time her cousin, Isabel. “Oh, good morning, Isabel!” She greeted her and then she walked straight to her bed. She lied down on top of it. She tried to act normal despite all the emotions she had inside her heart. She couldn’t tell her what happened to her last night. She just chose to stare at the ceiling. She could feel that Isabel was staring at her. Her cousin sat on the bed and took a pillow to put it on her lap. “So, how’s the funeral? I am so sorry, Alyssa. I am unable to go there. I am sorry if I am not around during those times to comfort you.” Alyssa smiled at her. “It’s alright. I understand that you are busy. I know that is important to you and our family. How’s your dinner? Did you finally meet your fiance?” Isabel rolled her eyes. “Excuse me! He is not my fiance and I will never accept him as one. You know that there is only one man in my life and he is going to be my husband. I am not going to be married to a stranger.” She looked at her cousin. “So, what are you going to do? You know that our grandfather already agreed on it. It’s the elders' wishes. You know that they have talked about it since they were just in grade school,” she said. Alyssa could understand what her cousin felt but what could they do if it was a decision made by the head of the family. “I know! Yes, it is their dream but I don’t agree about it. This is my life and I need to do something. This wedding will never happen, I swear! Over my dead body!” Alyssa could see the determination in her cousin’s face. Well, she could understand her. She had never met the man and they do not have any feelings for each other. She was sure that she would feel the same way too if ever she was in her shoes. “But what do you mean? Are you up to something?” She asked Isabel. “Well, like what I have told you, I need to do something. I cannot let them control my life. No one can manipulate my life other than myself. Please, Alyssa, I am begging you not to tell anyone about my plan. Please, I trust you. I know you know how it feels to be in my position.” Alyssa couldn’t say anything. From how it looked, she knew that she couldn’t stop Isabel for whatever she was planning so she just nodded in response. Isabel was the true heiress of the Grey family because she was just adopted. She couldn’t do anything about her situation. Her foster parents died ten years ago due to an accident just like what happened to her boyfriend. Once again, she felt her chest tightened. When she was thirteen years old, she remembered that day while she was in school, the principal suddenly called her. She went into her office and there, the news was broken to her. Her parents had an accident and the butler of the family was there to pick her up. Even after her foster parents' burial, the Grey family didn’t neglect her. They took care of her and let her stay at the big house of the Grey. She lived there along with Isabel and her parents. She was treated nicely. She was like their child as well. They were great just like her foster parents. She could say that the Grey family were kind and they were noble, especially their grandfather, Edward Grey. She couldn’t say anything bad towards him because everything that he does was for the sake of family. Alyssa and Isabel were almost the same age. She was just a year older than the woman. She was just a new born baby when her parents adopted her. It was said that the woman who gave birth to her was left by her boyfriend and she had no means to support her. The information came from her foster parents. They told her the truth about her identity when she turned ten years old. Despite that fact, their love for her was genuine. It felt like they were the ones who brought her out of this world. It was on her tenth birthday when she accidentally heard the topic about the old man's wish. The old man of the Watson’s family and Grey family agreed to have their granddaughter and grandson marry each other after both graduated from college. She could still remember that her father said it was Isabel because she was the legal daughter of the Grey family. She was the one who perfectly fit that agreement between the two elders. Her identity was also not a secret to the whole family of Grey but the Watson family was not aware about it.
