The restaurant is small, but still decorated with expensive statues that Aria wouldn't dream of buying.
Everything, down to the uniform of the waiters and waitresses look that are so well pressed cleaned to perfection to the setting of the tables clearly filtered their customers form the rest.
"Right this way, Sir and madam." A hostess says as she bows slightly and gestures for them to follow.
Aria follows behind Dean as the woman leads them to a table by the window, sitting them down to the night view of the streets and passerbys.
Though Dean would have preferred a different spot, but he can't be too picky
"The menu." the hostess smiled before walking away.
Aria pretends to read the menu, though she can't really tell what half of them look like based off of their names.
A waitress rushes to their table and stands by as she waits for their order with a notepad ready.
"Give me the chef's choice." Dean doesn't bother looking through it and hands the menu to the waitress.
"I'll have the same..." Aria smiles at the waitress who nods and jolts it down.
"Any beverages? Wines or spirits perhaps?" She asks as she tucks the pen into her pocket. "we have the chateau lafite 1982, we also just imported the Domaine Leroy Musigny Grand Cru and the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti."
Aria stares at her in confusion, wondering what on earth these names are and why someone would name wine in such a complicated manner with such fancy words.
"The latter." Dean says as he sits back and crosses his arms to his chest. "The Domaine de la Romanée-Conti."
"Very well sir." the waitress smile and glances towards Aria for an odd reason.
"Unless you'd prefer another type?" Dean turns his gaze to Aria who is trying to check the menu price of the wine but snaps out of it when she notices them both looking.
"Oh uh... no..." She clears her throat and smiles as she closes the menu. "c-can I get the bill in advance?"
"Will do." the waitress smiles and leaves the table as Aria starts to make mental calculations of what she was about to spend.
She can only pray the wine isn't as expensive as her account.
"I'll pay for the expenses." Dean says when he notices her punching numbers on her phone's calculator while checking from the menu. "No need to worry yourself."
"I offered to pay for dinner so... I have to..." She clears her throat and forces a smile. "I can handle it."
Dean raises a brow at her, knowing full well the wine he's just ordered doesn't come cheap.
Luckily he doesn't get to argue with her over the bill as the waitress comes back with the fined bill and places it on the counter on a tray next to her.
Aria takes the bill and nearly chokes when she sees the total.
It's her entire three months salary... down the drain.
"Is there a problem?" Dean asks, narrowing his eyes at her as she shakes her head in denial.
"No... no there isn't." she chuckles and clears her throat as she gets up from the chair and signals with her eyes for the waitress to follow.
They walk a bit further away from the table and Aria makes sure her back faces Dean as she opens the receipt and clears her throat.
"C-Can I pay in instalments?" She asks as she pleads with her eyes. "He's my boss and I have to pay for tonight's dinner as a token of gratitude... plus I have a loan I need to return and if you could please let me pay in installments... that would be great."
The waitress sighs softly and looks down at the bill for a second.
"We only allow installments of you pay half the price. Then pay the other half by month end." She says calmly, but if doesn't help Aria who really doesn't have half the amount.
"Okay...." she sighs and turns, walking back to the table and sitting back down.
Dean watches as she doesn't seem as radiant as she was just a few minutes ago. The color from her cheeks seem to have drained off and she looks more pale than ever.
Her once bright eyes seem to have dimmed down and she's slouching more than usual.
Clearly she's now more uncomfortable now than before.
"Is the place not to your liking?" He asks as he watches her look up and meet his gaze, straightening her back immediately.
"No it's uh... it's very beautiful." She smiles. "I've just never been in here before."
"You prefer food served in open spaces where people can watch you eat and passerbys." He raises a brow to which she shrugs her shoulders to.
"Had you tried a bite... maybe you'd have liked it." she shrugs again and looks down at the art on the glass tables. "But it's fine with me. wherever you choose."
He nods slowly but frowns when he notices her slowly look down at her nails, playing with her fingers with an unenthusiastic look on her face.
She's not enjoying herself and it's too obvious to deny it.
But he just didn't understand what on earth is so comfortable about the place she picked.
The food looked like a mountain of consequences, the people were wondering about freely and walking all over the place, the open space is too open and inviting to countless bugs and dust....
but why was she more comfortable there??
"Your food." the waitress comes back with the dishes and places them in front of the two and Dean sees Aria's eyes light up in excitement, only to have her smile drop the second the waitress lifted the lids, revealing a portion that Aria didn't think was right for the price. "enjoy."
Aria watches as the waitress walks away, dumbfounded at the portion size.
It is a meal size... but she'd expect something more filling considering how much she's paying for it.
The sound of Dean's fork and knifes working at his food makes Aria tune back into her reality and start to dig into her food as well with a gloomy heart.
"Your wine." The waitress reappears and places two wine glass on the table before pouring just a shot size into one of them and sliding the glass to Dean.
Aria watches curiously as Dean swirls the wine in the glass without lifting it, as though stirring its contents before lifting it to his nose and inhaling the scent.
Why? Aria didn't know.
But he eventually takes a sip and seems to reflect for a moment before nodding and setting the glass down.
The waitress smiles and pours more info it before turning to Aria's glass and filling it up.
"Enjoy." the waitress bows slightly and sets the bottle down before walking off.
Dean glances over at Aria who starts to mimic what he had been doing, though it seems so sloppy that she nearly spills the half full glass before taking a sip.
Her eyes light up at the taste and she glances at the name of the wine before taking another sip.
He almost finds it funny, that she doesn't know she's not supposed to stir it when it's already been poured half way in but regardless, he lets her do what she wants. Willing to let her find comfort in mimicking him rather than glooming over something he doesn't understand.
