Chapter 1
The door slammed shut behind Lena as she stormed out of their hotel room at The Grand Mirage Hotel, she was hoping she could leave before the tears started coming but luck wasn't on her side.
“Well happy birthday to me.” She whispered to herself with eyes full of tears, she was very sure her makeup would be ruined already.
As she got closer to the elevator, a part of her wished Jason would run after her and sweep her up in his arms and apologise but she knew she was only fooling herself.
Jason hadn't even bothered to look up when she walked out of the room.
This was supposed to be one of the best nights of her life, a beautiful getaway for just her and Jason.
And there would be no distraction, no work, no calls that needed to be answered urgently, no annoying sister to make the day all about herself.
It was supposed to be just her and Jason, enjoying life to the fullest, in the company of each other, it was the kind of romantic escape she had dreamed of for years.
But here she was, storming out of their hotel room, wanting to get as far away from Jason as possible.
Jason had cancelled their dinner two times over the week but the final straw was tonight's disaster.
It had taken months for Lena to get them the reservation at the luxurious five star restaurant and Jason had just gone ahead to cancel their reservation, without checking in with her.
And the worst part? He had cancelled so he could go out with his other irresponsible friends and they gambled all night.
He couldn't make time for her, on the one night that was supposed to be all about her. As the elevator continued to go down, Lena found herself replaying the conversation she had with Jason.
“Why are you making a big deal about one dinner?” Jason started when he got back to the room later that night.
“One dinner Jason? It's my birthday dinner.”
“We can have dinner some other night Lena.” He added with an exhausted sigh as he took off his jacket.
“Tonight was supposed to be my birthday dinner and you ruined it and for what? To spend another night gambling with your friends like you've been doing since we got here?”
“Maybe you would understand if you had friends, then you would have gone to dinner with them and stop making a big deal about how I missed one dinner but no one likes you enough to be befriend you, even your own sister doesn't want you around.” Jason spat out.
“What did you say to me? Are you drunk right now?”
“No!!! I'm perfectly sober, I've just had enough of you and your drama. You're so obsessed with your birthday, grow up Lena. It's just a birthday, it's not like we're getting married or anything.”
Jason hadn't hit her, not physically at least, but his words had done a lot of damage, his words had cut her sharper than any other blade would have.
His words continued to echo in her head, even as she stumbled out of the elevator and into the streets.
She hailed a taxi and told the driver to take her to the best club in the city.
On arriving at the club, she headed straight to the bar and immediately ordered some drinks. After a few drinks, she could slowly feel the alcohol taking over her body.
And Lena willingly allowed herself to be taken over by the alcohol.
At first, she played it safe by staying at the bar, just swaying slightly to the music but after her 7th glass of Vodka, Lena started feeling incredibly bold and she proceeded to the middle of the dance floor.
She didn’t care that she was in the middle of strangers with no idea where she was, she blocked all sane thoughts away from her mind and danced her heart out.
Adrian had been sitting in the VIP section for over an hour now, just hoping something exciting would happen tonight.
He was bored out of his mind and the last place he wanted to be right now was the club but his friend had insisted he stayed and after several failed attempts by countless girls, he was ready to leave.
That was until Lena caught his eyes.
He watched as she stumbled into the middle of the dance floor and he knew immediately that she was drunk.
Her dress hugged her curves in all the right places, it wasn't too long and it wasn't too short either, she showed just the right amount of skin.
Several guys tried dancing with her but she paid them no attention, she was too caught up in her own world to realise that every man in the club had their attention on her.
Lena didn't know how long she spent dancing but she was starting to feel the effects of the alcohol reducing and she didn't want the night to be over just yet.
She stumbled back to the bar and ordered herself a few more drinks and that was when she saw him. He was leaning casually against the bar and he had a whiskey in his hand.
The sleeves of his shirt were rolled up to the elbows and he had removed his tie as well, leaving the first two buttons of the shirt opened.
He looked like trouble and Lena couldn't help but be attracted to him.
Immediately they locked eyes with each other, her legs moved on their own and before she could blink, she was right in front of Adrian.
“You've been staring, you see something you like perhaps?”Lena started, leaning against the bar just like he was too.
“Can you blame me? I can't help but stare when I see something beautiful.” Adrian answered.
His thick voice caused Lena to shiver but she continued to keep her face straight. Adrian was likewise holding himself back, Lena’s sweet perfume wasn't making him think straight, all he wanted was just to pull her close and claim her as his right there.
“Are you always this smooth or is this just the whiskey talking?” Lena continued, ordering herself more drinks.
“Maybe it's a little bit of both. I'm Adrian.” He introduced himself and Lena was already attracted to this handsome devil.
“I'm Lena.”
