Present
Rain fell down the sky. The droplets formed pools underneath my paws as they dripped off my fur. I just came back from a quick run. I tried to shake the stupid nightmares off but it was of no use. The story of Rose span around in my brain. Anger was the first thing on my mind the moment I woke up. I hated the fact that I was and still am too weak to fight the elders. I had hoped that the run would take my mind off of this subject but it appeared to be in vain. At least, now I was able to stretch my legs without having to look over my shoulder all the time. During the run, nobody found me worthy of even a glance which meant two things. Either they knew who I was. Or they despised me enough already to think I was not worthy of their time. Which was fine by me. It allowed me to run freely. I arrived at the stable door and shook my fur. I pushed the door with the tip of my nose before using my shoulder to open the door completely. I took a couple of steps before I froze on spot. I was hit with a familiar smell. Taking a deep breath, I continued my steps into the stable to reveal my sister. She was sitting on bed or bale of hay, whatever you want to call it. She looked deep in thought before jumping up the moment I entered the room. Her eyes were filled with shock and regret. Now I come to think of it, I don't think she ever saw my wolf before. I tilted my head to the side while cautiously stepping closer until I was about 5 steps removed from her. I wondered about her next move. For a second, I thought she was going to run from me but she quickly changed her body language into that of a warrior. Every trace of fear and regret hidden behind a mask she learned to put on a long time ago. I shifted back to my human form and reached to grab a shirt from an old chair. I waited for her to speak while taking place on the chair. She followed my example and sat back down on the bed. It took a while before she broke the silence. “I guess it’s nice to see you again sister”. I just nodded my head while staring through the window. I decided to just rip the band-aid off and ask the question I had in mind the moment I saw her again. “How are you still alive? They showed me your armor and a piece of your hair?” She appeared to be deep in thought before answering my question. “I will not tell you what happened that day. Not right now. I just found out you were alive as well. I am just glad that we are together again. Freed from the elders and their sick minds”. Even though she said it like that, I knew she was not convinced of our freedom. We both knew it was a matter of time before they realized our presence at this pack. Especially now that I am here. A small part of me rejected this theory. It wants to enjoy the freedom and forget the last couple of years saying that I was believed to be dead. Unfortunately, I knew I had to be objective. I reached out to her and hugged her. She was not expecting that which is why it took a while before returning the hug. I saw her tears the moment I let her go. I wanted to scold her for crying but I couldn’t. She took my hand and pulled me out of the chair. We left the shed and returned to the place I first met her. I took in my surroundings. There was a small cottage close to the forest edge. The fields around it were covered with colorful flowers and a stone path leading to the front door. The cottage was made of yellow limestone bricks while the roof was made of dark wood. The front door opened and revealed a young male at the age of 25. I recognized him as the Betá, whom I met a couple of days ago. I wondered what he was doing here. His brown eyes copied my surprised reaction. He was not expecting to see me either. “Betá Sam”. “Rogue”. I brought my wolf spirit closer underneath my skin. I could shift any second if I had to. I tried to pull my sister behind me which cause the Betá to growl. She pulled her hand out of mine and made her way over to the guy. I followed her every move just in case. You must understand my surprise when she grabbed his face only to kiss him. She took his hand into hers and stared down at the ground. “Elenora, this is my mate, Sam”.
