They started walking down the hill slowly, careful with their steps as the damp ground made the path slightly slippery. The night air wrapped around them, cool and quiet, carrying the faint scent of grass and earth after the rain.
Neither of them spoke.
But the silence wasn’t empty.
It felt… full.
Full of everything they didn’t say.
Joon walked half a step behind Sera at first, his hands tucked into his pockets, trying to steady his breathing. Every now and then, his eyes drifted to her how her hair moved softly with the breeze, how she occasionally looked up at the sky as if she didn’t want the moment to end.
Say something, he told himself.
But nothing came out.
Because somehow… words felt unnecessary.
Their shoulders brushed just lightly.
Both of them paused for half a second.
Then kept walking, pretending nothing happened.
A few steps later, it happened again.
This time, neither of them moved away immediately.
Joon swallowed.
Sera…
Before he could say anything...
Voices.
Faint at first, then clearer.
“Do you think we’ll still see it if we go up now?”
“Of course, we will. Hurry.”
Joon’s head snapped slightly toward the direction of the sound.
Another couple.
Coming up the hill.
Sera noticed it too. Her eyes widened just a little as she instinctively stepped closer to Joon.
“They might recognize you,” she whispered.
Joon exhaled quietly. “…Yeah.”
Without thinking too much, he gently took her wrist.
“This way.”
They moved quickly, stepping off the path and slipping behind a cluster of trees where shadows wrapped around them more tightly. The leaves above blocked most of the moonlight, leaving them in a dim, hidden space.
Too hidden.
Too close.
Sera turned slightly only to realize there was barely any space between them.
“Joon....”
Her words stopped.
Because his hand was still around her wrist.
And their bodies were
Almost pressed together.
Joon froze for a second, clearly realizing it too late.
“I....sorry, I just...”
“Shh,” Sera whispered suddenly.
The couple’s voices were closer now.
Instinctively, Sera moved.
Her hands reached for him not pushing him away, but pulling him closer instead.
Joon’s breath hitched.
Her arms slipped around him, gently but firmly, as if trying to make them look like nothing more than shadows tangled together in the dark.
Or maybe...
So they wouldn’t be seen at all.
Joon didn’t move.
Couldn’t.
His hands hovered awkwardly for a second before slowly settling around her as well, almost hesitant at first… then more certain.
Warm.
That was the first thing he noticed.
Warm ,despite the cold night air.
He could feel the soft fabric of her sweater under his fingers. The faint rhythm of her breathing, so close to his chest. The subtle scent of her hair, familiar now, comforting in a way he didn’t understand.
The footsteps passed by.
Closer.
Then right in front of them.
Joon held his breath.
Sera did too.
Their bodies instinctively pressed closer together, minimizing any sound, any movement.
Joon could feel her heartbeat.
Or was that his?
He wasn’t sure anymore.
Time stretched.
One second.
Two.
Three.
And then
The voices faded.
The footsteps disappeared further up the hill.
Silence returned.
But neither of them moved.
Not immediately.
Joon slowly exhaled, his breath brushing lightly against Sera’s hair.
“They’re gone…” he whispered.
Sera didn’t answer right away.
Her hands were still holding onto him.
And Joon… didn’t want her to let go.
“…Yeah,” she finally murmured.
But still
She didn’t pull away.
Joon’s fingers tightened just slightly at her back, almost unconsciously.
His heart was racing now.
Loud.
Too loud.
This isn’t normal.
Not just attraction.
Not just curiosity.
This
This was something else.
Something heavier.
Something that made it hard to think straight.
“Sera…” he called softly.
She tilted her head up just a little.
And suddenly
They were closer than ever.
So close he could see the faint shine in her eyes, the soft curve of her lips, the way her breath caught for just a second.
Joon’s gaze dropped.
Just for a moment.
To her lips.
Don’t.
But he didn’t look away.
Not this time.
Because the thought that had been lingering since earlier came rushing back,
stronger now.
Clearer.
I don’t want this moment to end.
Sera’s grip loosened slightly, but she still didn’t step back.
“Joon…” she whispered, her voice softer than before.
There was something in it.
Uncertain.
But not rejecting.
And that
That was enough to make his chest tighten.
He leaned in
Just a little.
Careful.
Slow.
As if giving her time to stop him.
But she didn’t.
The space between them grew thinner.
Thinner.
Until
A sudden gust of wind rustled the leaves above them.
Sera blinked, as if snapping out of something, and quickly stepped back.
Joon froze.
Reality hit.
Hard.
“I sorry,” he said immediately, running a hand through his hair, clearly flustered. “That was...”
“It’s okay,” Sera cut him off, though her voice was slightly breathless.
They both looked away at the same time.
The distance between them returned.
But it felt different now.
Not empty.
Just… changed.
They stepped back onto the path, continuing their walk down the hill.
This time, the silence felt heavier.
But also
More honest.
Joon glanced at her again.
And this time, he didn’t look away quickly.
Because now he knew.
For sure.
This wasn’t just curiosity.
Wasn’t just a fleeting attraction.
What he felt
Was real.
And that realization scared him more than anything else.
Because for the first time in a long while
Joon wasn’t thinking about consequences.
He wasn’t thinking about his career.
Or his image.
Or the world waiting for him outside this quiet place.
All he could think about
Was her.
And how, somehow
Without him realizing
She had already become someone he didn’t want to lose.
