Chapter 5: Loyalty

The Alpha's Hunter 5 Chapter 5: Loyalty Mason wrote down lots as his brain was processing everything that Carter told him and Damien. Amplifiers only appear in a time of great need and when a possible horrible war could happen. Or they appear during a war time. It's been almost five hundred years since the last amplifier was seen or heard of. So why was one his mate? Did he need protection that badly? Were they at war and didn't know it yet? Or is there a war on its way and they don't know about it yet? Mason wasn't going to let anyone see the things he was writing. He was going to burn it, he just needed the thoughts from his head on paper to remember them. Some people talked to others. Others wrote things and shared. Mason wrote things and burned them so no-one would know what he was thinking. Or sometimes planning. In this case, it is Mason's understanding of everything that Carter told him about and his own theories on what this could mean. After all, Jaycen was his mate and he was important to not only to Mason but to the world. Mason could remember everything he has read or been told since he was little so he wasn't actually worried about forgetting it. He was going to research it all when he was at home, he just wanted to get some standard ideas off the top of his head and think through them. Mason growled a little as he could sense Connor Blacke with his Jay. But he had to remind himself that Connor Blacke was a kid and would find his own mate when he turned 18. That Conner and Jaycen were only friends, there was nothing more to it than that. But Mason and his wolf Scott, were both very possessive of what they saw as theirs. And Jaycen Storme was their mate so that made him theirs. Whether anyone liked it or not. And it was probably made worse by the fact having no mate for so long too. Mason was also doing his best not to eavesdrop on the two of them talking but of course Scott didn't give a s**t and was doing it regardless of the fact that they shouldn't. It was rude. Which was making it hard for Mason to focus. It also didn't help that Damien and his wolf were encouraging them to keep an eye on Connor and Jaycen to make sure that isn't anyway funny going on between the two too. Carter insisted that Jay would be fine with Adrian while Matthias was talking to Alpha Justin about a few things quickly before he spoke and informed their father about what was going on with Jaycen and Mason being mates. Asking the Head Hunter of the Stormes if it was alright if they went to Mason's pack for a few weeks so that Mason wouldn't go mad being separated by his mate since werewolves needed two to four weeks with their mate so that they didn't get sick being apart. And also in the case of older to younger mates, the older werewolf mate could go mad and either hurt or kill people to be with their mate. Andrew was going through some things with the meeting that was happening since he was treaty negotiator. "What is he like?" Mason heard Jaycen ask Connor. What was who like? Who was he asking about? Him? Mason knew he shouldn't be ears dropping but he can't help it. "In all honesty?" Connor asked the other. 'That brat better be nice or I'll gut him,' Scott commented to Mason. 'No you won't because that will upset our mate and we both know you don't want that,' Mason told his wolf. "Yeah, what's Alpha Mason like?" Jaycen nodded. It made Mason nervous, worried and excited to hear Jay ask about him. "I don't really know Mason that well but I know a lot of people like him and he's either well respected or hated by the other alphas," Connor told his friend honestly. Mason and Scott were happy to hear Connor answer that because it was the truth. People either liked Mason or hated him. He was happy to hear Connor be honest rather than lie and say he was a horrible person or something. 'Okay, the kid is good,' Scott grinned hearing what was said about Mason. Because it was the honest truth. 'Me too,' Mason agreed. "But I…. Look Jay, if it was my dad's choice and up to him I would be trying to get you to reject Mason," Connor confessed softly to the blond which had Mason almost snarl loudly. But he and Scott kept listening. Okay, now Mason was interested in what Connor and Jaycen were talking about. f*****g stupid Alpha Justin, trying to get in the way! Can't the f*****g man stay out Mason's life instead of being like a stalker and having to know every little thing about Mason and what's going on in his life?! This wasn't the first time when he had heard about Alpha Justin trying to but into Mason's life. "Why?" Jaycen asked, confused. "I don't know why but my dad hates Alpha Mason. I mean, whenever I see him, Alpha Mason kinda acts indifferent towards me because he and dad don't get along well," Connor answered the other truthfully. He didn’t want to lie to his best friend and pretty much only friend. "But I remember when I was younger, Alpha Mason and my older brother Alister were really good friends and even though he's indifferent about me, he's still really nice. Alister said you couldn't have gotten a better mate than Mason…. Just don't tell my dad I said that." Mason felt so happy hearing Connor talking about him in such a nice way. And it didn't surprise him that Alpha Justin was trying to interfere, he was always a jealous asshole. Just because Mason was young, well liked and respected, all while being feared at the same time. "If my dad asks you… say you're thinking of rejecting Mason or you're still making your mind up…" Connor said in almost tears or in tears. Mason wasn't sure why though. Walking over to the room, was he going to have to come in and say something? Why did Connor sound like he was on the verge of tears? Did something happen? Wait, no he seemed to be in tears. Why, though? "Why? I mean it isn't any of his business and… Con? Are you okay? Why are you crying?" Jaycen asked worriedly. "My dad said he was going to banish me if I don't get you to reject Mason," Connor told him, crying. That had Mason pissed as hell. It was like Justin was saying choose between them. He stormed into the room where his mate and friend were talking, pissed. But not at Connor. "Banish? Would he really make you a rogue because me and Mason are mates?" Jaycen asked worriedly. "He would," Mason and Connor said at the same time. Connor heard him and was frozen in fear. What was Mason doing here? How much of what Connor said did the man hear? "I…" Connor said, his voice filled with fear. As he was trying to not cry in front of the other alpha. "I…" "I didn't mean to eavesdrop, Scott was worried," Mason told Jaycen, seeing the unhappy look on the blond's face about Mason listening in on them. "And I heard everything. Connor, if your father banishes you over something ridiculous like this then Damien or myself will protect you. I do not believe in making someone a rogue over something like this. So if it happens, there will be a place for you in my pack, as an elite." "R-Really?" Connor asked in tears, all over again. An elite was better than nothing. "Really," Mason nodded. "You can even come back with us and leave now." "He won't be an elite, he'll be a beta," Damien said as he walked into the room. Making Connor nervous as he was trying his best to get himself to stop crying. "I believe Connor might be my mate, we'll know for sure when he turns eighteen." "If not?" Adrian asked. He knew that Connor meant something to his younger brother, what it is he wasn’t fully sure of. But if Adrian had to guess, Jay loved Connor like he was his brother. "I'll co-beta with him anyway," Damien said with a shrug. "He's a good kid. Smart and strong and he’s very honest and truthful. Good traits for Jaycen to have in his beta if he chooses to be mates with Mason." “Agreed,” Mason nodded his head. “Connor is a good kid with a good head on his shoulders. He would make an excellent addition to the pack, whether my mate joins the pack or not.” The black haired older male didn’t want the blond to feel like he was being forced to join or accept him as his mate so that Connor had a place. It would be like doing what Alpha Justin tried to do. Force Jaycen into a corner and force him to make a decision he wasn’t ready for yet. “I liked your answers,” Adrian grinned at the pair. “If our father doesn’t want to come to the pack to talk to you and make a treaty, me or Matt or both of us will do it on his behalf. Since me and Matt are the oldest, we’re used to doing that. Gives dad time to be a dad to our younger siblings and it lets me and Matthias get first hand experience.” “Plus it means if he steps down, Head Hunter Gregory doesn’t have to worry about you two being ready for the role or anything too,” Andrew added in from the desk where he was working. “Alpha Mason? May I ask you your option on this huge pack merge that Alpha Justin is wanting to do?” He wanted an option for someone who was against it to find out the reason why he was against it. “Can we call him Justine for threatening to make Connor a rogue because he was jealous that Mason has Jay as his mate by their moon goddess lady?” Adrian asked Andrew. “No, the treaty says we have to be respectful,” Andrew told the other with a small sigh. “But he was the one who did the disrespectful thing first by trying to force Connor’s hand to force Jay’s hand!” Adrian whined like a child. This was the main reason why Gregory, the Storme Brothers’ father, always had Matthias and Adrain together for these kinds of missions. Adiran was childish and immature at times. Getting distracted by the flowers easilys. While Matthias could be a real stick in the mud and very by the book, forgetting to look and smell the flowers. The twins balanced each other out “I’ll join you in calling Alpha Justin, Justine,” Mason grinned at Adrian. “I agree with you. He deserves it since he was disrespectful first.” “Mason, don’t encourage him,” Damien told his alpha with a look. There was time for play and silliness and there was a time for seriousness. This was not the time for play. “C-Can one of you two come back with me to my room so I can pack a bag and stay here so I can go with you?” Connor asked Damien and Mason. “I-I’m worried about what my dad will say or do… when he finds out… I am happy with being an elite if I am not Beta Damien’s mate.” But them being mates would make sense in one way. Connor has always felt a pull towards Damien. He hoped they were mates. Sure being a beta was a step down from being an alpha, but if it means he didn’t have to deal with his father and his father’s craziness, then Connor would be happy with it. Hell, he would accept being an omega right now over being near or with his father. Could his feelings change in the future? Of course, but right now, Connor feels like he was better with Alpha Mason and his Black Crescent pack than staying here in the Moon Howlers and his father. He also hoped that Jaycen would give Mason a chance and maybe even become luna. It would be nice to be able to live together with Jaycen, maybe even have kids of similar ages and their kids growing up together and possibly being mates. That would be very cool in Connor’s option. But he won’t voice that, at least, not for now. “I’ll go with you so if he asks, I’ll say that Jay wants you to sleep over while you guys talk about the whole mate thing,” Adrian told Connor as he got up. “Your father can’t say no to a Storme.” Well, the man could if he really wanted but Adrian didn't think he would. He looked at Mason moved two of his fingers between them. Saying he had his eyes on him. “I’m watching you, no funny stuff with my baby brother. Especially while I am gone.” Mason wasn’t fully sure what Adrian meant by ‘funny stuff’ but he wasn’t going to try anything bad or try anything inappropriate. He wanted Jay to like him, not push him away. “I’ll be fine Rain, I’m not a child,” Jay told his older brother. Nor was he weak. He wasn’t as strong as his brothers and sister but he wasn’t weak either. He was a Storme after all and Stormes were strong beyond anyone’s understanding. “Just look after Connor.” “I will, I will,” Adrian laughed lightly as he got up. “Come on Connor. Jay will be fine here with Andrew, Damien and Mason. Carter and Matthias will be back soon anyway.” “Right,” Connor nodded as he got up. It was getting late after all. “How are you feeling Jay?” Mason asked as soon as Connor and Rain were gone. “I’m feeling better. Especially with you offering Connor a place in your pack, it’s closer to where I live with my parents and stuff. So I can visit him easier!” the blond smiled. “Or you can visit your parents or have your family come visit us easier if you choose to live with us and Connor,” Damien smiled at him. “I do mean it, Luna Jaycen. I will co-beta with Connor whether he is my mate or not.” “I believe you,” the blond laughed lightly. “I just don’t know much about this whole mate thing. I mean, I know general stuff that I learn as a hunter and stuff, but I don't know about it like you guys do. Do you have any books or anything about it? At your pack I mean? I know I have to stay near Mason for a few weeks to a few months because of our bond or else he and I can both get sick or weaken or something.” “We will both feel ill and weaken in strong being apart after finding each other,” Mason explained to the other as best as he could. He won't mention the madness that being 25 year old might do to him, that could scare the poor teen and possibly drive him away. “It is normally fixed by either of us rejecting the other. Or both of us rejecting each other. Or both of us accepting each other. Or by me marking you. I’m not sure how it works for you since normally I would need to be marked too but you're not a supernatural so that’s…. Hard to do. I have to ask our pack witch or the pack elder for help. One of them should know. If not, I can ask Dr Newgate. Edward knows a lot as he has been around for a very long time.” Well, since Jaycen is mixed creature blood there could be a way for him to mark Mason but he didn't know for sure. “That sounds good, and I can ask my dad if he knows anything. I wonder if it’s like witches and I give you a piece of jewellery like a necklace or bracelet or something. Not just a wedding ring,” Jaycen said thinking about it. “I mean… we would get married if we stayed together right?” “Whatever my beautiful luna wishes, he will get. A small wedding or a big one?” Mason grinned at the blond. If Jaycen accepted him as his mate, accepted his role as luna and let Mason mark him. Mason would have a wedding ready that weekend. Most werewolves didn’t care about weddings since that’s what the marks pretty much meant. That they were married and meant for each other and were going to stay together for life. But Mason knew that the humans liked weddings and it was their way of doing it. Many witches do the same thing as well. They were more human- like and did more human things than supernatural things. “Considering our families, well my family and your pack. I think a small wedding would be out of the question,” Jaycen laughed lightly. Then he blushed. “I-In all honesty… I have a book I can show you? I um… kinda drew and wrote down roughly what I wanted my wedding to be like when I was younger… I still want a lot of it…. I drew it and wrote it because I was so sick that the doctors didn’t know if I would survive or not and Carter, I have known him for so long. He said he would marry me before I died if the medicines and cures we were using didn’t work.” “....do you have feelings for him?” Mason asked, sounding jealous and nervous all at the same time. He didn't want a love rival, but he wouldn’t believe the blond if he chose Carter over him. Hearing Jaycen say that Carter offered to marry had Mason and his wolf on edge. “What? No. I just thought I would tell you since we're mates…. I don’t want there to be secrets between us.” “Well, if we’re telling secrets. Don’t be jealous, but Damien here was my first crush and boyfriend.” If Jaycen wanted no secrets then Mason wouldn’t have any and he would tell the blond everything. “what?” “I mean I'm like seven years older than you. No offence meant to you Jay. I think it’s cute to have a younger mate. But you shouldn't be surprised.” “I guess… but that does mean...” “Yes, neither of us are virgins,” Damien told the blond honestly. “But, Mace doesn’t sleep around with random people. I won’t say he hasn’t slept with anyone besides me because that would be a lie. But he isn’t like a man w***e or anything like that where he has a new guy every day or something. He has only had like two boyfriends. One who was crazy and is why Mason decided to look for his true mate, you.” “We don’t need to talk about Quincey,” Mason told Damien. Why the hell did his beta have to bring up that asshole? “Who is Quincery?” Jaycen asked, sounding a little jealous. “A jealous guy who tried to kill Damien because of our past relationship of more than best friends,” Mason told Jayccen honestly. “But he was banished because he almost killed several pack members and hurt Damien, plus Damien’s brother who I have never flirted with or slept with.” “You mean Marco or the other brother?” Damien asked him. “I swear you flirted with Marco before.” “I have flirted with Marco, but it was to help him because he was trying to get his crush jealous and to notice him,” Mason said defencely. “I never flirted with Harrison though.” “Ah, my little bookworm brother who we all love more than life itself,” Damien laughed lightly. “He’s as dense as the books he reads so I wouldn’t be surprised if someone flirted with him and he had no idea.” “True,” Mason laughed. “Y-You be my first….” Jay blushed. “And I hope your last, as you would be my lucky number three boyfriend, but first mate,” Mason told Jaycen with a loving smile. “If you're willing to be friends and then trying to be more than friends later, we can do that.” “As long as we’re friends first and we see how things go from there,” the hunter agreed. “It’s a deal,” Mason smiled happily. He couldn’t wait! He was going to win the blond over if it was the last thing he did. Scott, his wolf side, was in total agreement. He wanted their mate just as much Mason did, and maybe, hopefully, he might have a creature side just for Scott too. If not, it wasn't the end of the world because he could share his mate with his human counterpart. Either way, their loyalty lies with Jaycen.
