CHAPTER 1
I'm Married Mumbling echoed in the quiet office. Two adults' lips were touching, but not lovingly. Alex tried to speak, he was trying to gently push the annoying little human that suddenly took over his lips. Gently, did not work after some seconds, so he did the next available thing. He grabbed her arm, holding it firm, then pulled it away followed by her body. There were lines on his forehead as he stared at his childhood friend who was panting slightly. He stared at her with wide eyes, and he gestured with his hand. “Wha...” he paused and stepped back, driving his fingers into his hair, looking away from her “Mandy, what was that about?” he asked, softly taking his gaze back to her She took a step forward with a crazy glint in her eyes. Her palms rested on his broad chest as her eyes went to his blue, confused eyes. She knew he was being nice. In fact, she believed he loved her. If it were some other girl, regardless of who it was, they would have been thrown out of the premises by the security by now. But he did not do that. He loved her and she… she loved him. Even more than he did. “A” she called his nickname almost like a whisper Alex kept giving her the confused gaze. She moved her hands and placed it behind his neck, maintaining eye contact with him. “Stop acting like you don't want me” she said “Wha... I don't-" Amanda tried to kiss him again, but he was quick to take her hands off his neck and took steps away from her around the table. “You are not going to do that a second time” he said firmly with a serious gaze Then he sighed. He pinched the bridge of his nose with his eyes close, then exhaled before opening them again. “Mandy, why? What has gotten over you?" he said, calmly. “I'm sorry for being aggressive. I just-" “Aggressive?” Alex interrupted, ” Mandy, you just walked into my office and pounced on me like some mad woman" “Yes!” Amanda snapped, taking steps towards Alex. “I am mad, Alex" her countenance softens, “Madly in love with you" “We are friends, Mandy” ”To you! I don't want you as a friend. I want you to be more than that" “When last did you drink?” Alex walked to the window of his office with his hands in his pocket. “I'm not joking, A” “Then you have gone crazy” Alex said without remorse He did not feel that way for her. Amanda was his childhood friend. A daughter to his father's friends. They've known each other for as long as he can remember. They most times did things together. While growing up, because of their closeness, people often thought they were dating and would eventually end up married one day. Alex did not mind then. He thought of it as some joke that would dry off soon, but it did not. It continued until they were twenty, so he began putting them off. It was not like he hated being paired with her, but he did not want to stop other guys from approaching and making her his girlfriend. He did not feel that way for her. In fact, he could never. His eyes landed on someone a few distances away from the building he was in. He could never love Amanda. His heart was already taken. It was with someone special. Someone he would forever love. Alex smiled but quickly concealed it, but Amanda was staring at him, so she was able to notice. He glanced at her, then returned his gaze to the smiling lady by the side of the road with a friend. “I'm not crazy, A" Amanda said with firmness, “I'm in love-" Alex turned to her. “We've been friends for over fifteen years. Why would you thi-" “You love me” she interrupted, “I know you do. You always shower me with gifts, take care of me, get jealous when guys try to hit on me" “Mandy, I only stopped you from accepting those guys or going close to them because they aren't good for you. They would break your heart. For the gifts, you asked I do that weekly and I do it because you are my friend" Alex explained. “A” Amanda called, moving close to him, but Alex held his hand up stopping her “Mandy, I don't love you that way” “You do” “I don't” “You do, Alex” “I'm married, Mandy” Amanda was taken aback. She took a step back as the words played again in her head. She blinked a couple of times, then smiled. “You're lying. You are not" “I am. Recently" Alex said with a smile, staring back at the lady below. “You are not. I don't know her” Amanda said “You do” he replied with his eyes on the lady Amanda squinted her eyes at Alex. “Who?” Alex remained silent, just staring. “Alex, who?” Mandy asked, offended. “You don't need to-" he blocked the window as Amanda came over to see what he was looking at “What or who were you staring at?” she asked inquisitive “Nothing” he said “Then why block me from seeing out the window?” Alex looked over his shoulder out the window, then stepped to the side. “I thought you wanted to act crazy again” he said The lady was gone. Amanda looked out the window briefly before taking her gaze back to him. She opened her mouth to speak, but the door flung open. “Alex, she…" the man paused and froze with his right hand in the air holding a file He dropped his hand, then walked over to the table. “Hey, Mandy” he greeted, taking a seat “Mtcheww" Amanda grabbed her bag and stomped out of the office. The two men in the room stared at her back until the door was closed. “Were you guys fighting again?” the man, Ray asked “You know Mandy" Alex took a seat “So what's up?" The man slammed the file on the table with a smile. “Your teacher accepted your marriage proposal, dude”
