Excitement
Alex's lips curved up slightly as he grabbed the file on the table. With a flip, he spotted the signature boldly written down. He turned to the last page and the signature was the same.
His smile knew no bounds at this point that it turned to blush. He smiled, staring at the signature for a minute before placing his back on the backrest of the chair he sat on.
“Is it just the signature making you smile so much?” Ray asked, raising a brow.
Alex did not bother to explain to him why he was happy. He need not say it to anyone except to the person who caused him to feel so. His eyes darted around the table in search of his phone.
He did not find it, so he went for the suit jacket he had on. Without much thought, he went to the call log to dial her number but paused with his thumb hovering over the name he saved her as.
Quickly, he stood up, walked to the cabinet at the side of the room and took out a black, square-like object then walked to the window. He pressed the top part of the object, and it expanded, radiating light, followed by the sound of machines and trucks.
He tapped on her contact and placed the phone on his ears as the phone rang. It rang for a couple of seconds before ending without her picking. He redialled and the same thing happened. For some strange reason, he was uneasy about that.
It was not long ago he saw her. Did something happen? Where was she? Is she still mad at him? The smile he had slowly faded as his mind traveled farther from his office.
Ring! Ring!
He took his eyes quickly to his phone and spotted her name dancing on the screen. Swiping on the screen, he placed the phone back on his ear.
“Baby?” he called
“Babe, I'm sorry for missing your call. I was having my bath" she said.
He pressed the side of the object he held and the sounds emitting from it slowly reduced as though he was walking away from it.
“I was almost worried there” Alex said as he walked to his table, placing the object down
“Sorry”
“It's fine. I just received the photos of the documents. You signed them" his earlier excitement resurfaced.
“Oh yes" she replied, “You sound as though you did not expect that" she added
Alex sighed as he walked back to the window. “Maybe” he replied, resting the side of his arm on the wall as he looked out the window
“Why?”
Alex was quiet for a minute before replying. “Our argument," he said, “I thought you would decline"
“Well, no argument can make me not accept to marry you, Alex. I love you and we will sort that out"
“I'm really sorry for missing it. I promise I indeed wanted to le-"
“I understand, babe. No need to explain. You need to work after all"
“I love you, baby. Um- I gotta go now. I'm still at the site. A few more things to be done" Alex said.
“Sure. Chat later then"
He ended the call with a smile still on his face. He folded his hands and threw them up and down in excitement. He spun around and spotted Ray still seated staring at him in amazement.
Casually, he walked back to the table, turning off the object before taking a seat. ”What?" he asked, his expression turning serious as he shut his marriage file and picked another file at the side, opening it.
“She still does not know you are in New York?” Ray asked.
“So?” Alex said, without looking up.
His eyes were glued to the file opened on his table, even though his mind was nowhere in the vicinity. It was with his girl - no, wife. His mind was with his wife, not too far away from his company.
“You don't see a problem with that?”
“What problem?” Alex's eyes remained on the file.
“Dude, you just got married to a lady, and she does not know anything about you. That's unfair"
“She does know something about me” Alex raised his eyes briefly before returning it to the document
“Like what?”
Alex took his eyes off the document and placed his back on the backrest as he thought hard. He was the CEO of Stone Techs, a large tech company known all over the world. At present, he is the youngest CEO in New York. He is twenty-four, and he is madly in love with Lia Shaw.
That was a very brief summary of him and out of it, Lia only had knowledge of one thing and that was his love for her. Most of the knowledge she has of him is false, but he could not help it. He had to do what he had to do to have her by his side.
Moreover, he does not plan to hide his true identity for long. He sighed as his gaze rested on Ray. “You could not come up with anything, right?” he said
Alex's gaze rested on him sluggishly, with a hint of anger in them. “I'll tell her soon," he said
“I heard that the first time I found out about this relationship of yours. Does dad know?"
“He knows I'm dating someone”
“And not the fact that you are hiding what you truly are?” Ray sighed “Other people have normal friends who approach a lady directly, mine decided to lie to her for over a year”
“Enough, Ray. I need to work. Can you leave now?"
Ray stood up. “This would backfire on you, Alex. I'll be fully ready to tell you, 'I told you so' when it happens" With that, Ray left the office.
Alex stared at the door after it was shut before staring down at the document open before me. Ray just made it hard for him to be happy now. He grabbed his marriage document and flipped it open. On seeing Lia's signature again, his happiness came back, making him smile.
