“Josh… JOSH!” I opened my eyes.
“You’re late, wake up!” Lydia yelled at me. I grabbed my phone and jumped up.
“F*ck.” I said rubbing my face. It was already eight. I quickly got dressed and ran to uncle Dec’s office.
“LATE!” Uncle Dec yelled as I opened the door.
“I’m sorry, I forgot to set my alarm.” I walked over and plopped in a chair.
“It’s ok Josh, happens to the best of if. Don’t do it again!” He said sternly and I looked at him in shock. He burst out laughing. “No really, it’s ok.”
“Same thing as yesterday?” I asked.
“Actually no. Today since high school is about to start, We are going to go assess the new students.” Uncle Dec finished typing. “And send!” He looked at me and smiled.
“Awesome!” I said jumping up.
“Glad to see you happy Josh! Henry will be joining us.” Uncle Dec stood up and walked around the desk.
“Really?” I asked.
“Josh, you’re going to be almost attached at the hip. Since Barion has his role and Liam has chosen to follow as his number two, you were the best choice to take my position. Try to get along with him.” Uncle Dec pat and held my shoulder.
“I’ll try.” I said and he started leading us out.
“Good boy!” He said as we walked out of his office. I could see Uncle James and Henry standing by the doors.
“James! Are you coming with us?” Uncle Dec asked.
“No, we’re finishing up and then I’m going to help Lee with some problems they’re having with a pack in California.” Uncle James looked at us both. “Have fun boys!” Uncle James walked off.
“Bye dad!” Henry called and then turned to me. “Ready Josh?” Henry asked and I nodded. We walked out the door and to a car that was waiting. I got into the back seat and Henry got into the back in the other side. Uncle Dec got into the drivers seat.
“I feel like your chauffeur.” Uncle Dec said.
“What a privilege to drive around a future Alpha and a prince?” Henry laughed.
“Wouldn’t be the first time!” Uncle Dec laughed.
“You don’t have to refer to me as prince or anything like that.” I said.
“I was joking Josh.” Henry said with a laugh.
“I know, just don’t like it very much.” I said looking at him.
“Ok, I want us to be friends Josh! We’re going to be spending a lot of time together.” Henry said and I nodded.
“I’m sorry if I come off cold. People tell me I’m a *sshole or a jerk a lot.” I said and the car erupted into laughter.
“Daisy has mentioned the jerk part a few times.” Uncle Declan said.
“How is Daisy today?” Henry asked.
“I left before she woke up. She was pretty upset she couldn’t go with Liam to the airport to see them off.” Uncle Declan said.
“Didn’t you go with them Josh?” Henry asked.
“Yes, Jensen said it was so I could keep him awake while he drove. I didn’t know if he was serious or not. Spent the entire ride home scared he was going to crash and kill us.” I said and Henry laughed.
“So, you never answered my question yesterday.” Henry asked.
“What question?” I asked looking out the window.
“You know.” He hinted.
“Can we not talk about that?” I asked.
“Well we can’t with.” Henry motioned to Dec. “Him around.” He said.
“Do you get the feeling at all that she might not be interested?” I asked and he looked slightly offended.
“Oh! Now I know what you kids are talking about. I’ll pretend I’m not listening.” Uncle Dec started to hum.
“I know she’s not interested, but there’s nobody like her. She’s sweet, bubbly, but yet tough as nails.” I let out a laugh to Henry’s words.
“Sweet and bubbly?” I asked.
“She’s just like her mother. Everyone loved your aunt Madison.” Uncle Dec said.
“I thought you weren’t listening?” I asked.
“I said pretending. We’re here anyways.” Uncle Dec pulled up to the high school. I looked out at the small school made only for the elites of Silvermoon. We got out and I stood there in front as Dec and Henry made their way around the car.
“Let’s go.” Henry said and we walked in. We stopped at the office and Uncle Dec had us wait out front.
“Josh, I’m sorry if I have come on too strong when it comes to Daisy.” Henry said.
“It’s ok, I know you like her.” I said.
“I’m glad you understand.” He said and I looked at him confused.
“Understand what?” I said.
“Ok kids, let’s head to the training grounds.” Uncle Dec said pushing us. We walked through the school and just our luck, classes started letting out. Whispers erupted through the halls as we walked down. Girls saying hi to Henry and others trying to get my attention.
“Smile Josh.” Henry nudge me as he smiled and waved at the kids. I ignored them mostly as I followed Dec out another set of door. He turned and we followed him to the bleachers. We all sat and I leaned back.
“Ok kids, we are watching who our top performers are going into this new year. They’ll be the ones to watch.” Uncle Dec watched as they lined up students. They started their demonstrations and I frowned.
“What is it Josh?” Henry said.
“Their form isn’t tight. I hope that’s just because they’re getting back into school and not poor teaching.” I said and Dec looked at me.
“Very good Josh. We’ll make a note and watch for that.” Uncle Dec pulled out a note pad. We watched them do their display for a couple hours. Bringing in different kids every so often.
“Alright. I’m going to talk to the instructor and then we’ll go.” Uncle Dec said and we climbed to the bottom of the bleachers.
The kids started filing out but were all stopping to say hello to Henry. I crossed my arms and ignored anyone that tried to talk to me.
“You weren’t wrong. You can be a jerk.” Henry laughed as he leaned down to take a picture with a girl.
