Chapter 27 - Caring.

“It was good, I promise.” I said trying to reassure Aunt Madison the food was good. It tasted like a old shoe, but not everyone had their own private chefs. It seems like most the woman here wanted to cook for their families, but had no idea how to even start. “You’re sweet Josh, thank you.” Aunt Madison kissed my cheek as I brought in the plates. “Josh you don’t have to stay and help clean up.” Daisy said watching me. “Shhh! If he wants to help, don’t stop him!” Aunt Madison snapped and I laughed. “Come on Josh, I’ll walk you to the pack house.” Daisy grabbed my hand. “WAIT!” I stopped at the sound of Uncle Dec’s voice, my blood rising. “Josh we have something important to discuss tomorrow. So no running off!” Uncle Dec pointed at me and then smiled. “O-okay!” I said as Daisy pulled me away. We got out the door and half way to the pack house. I stopped and she looked at me. “Come on! What’s wrong.” She looked at me. “Oh no, this is about you freaking out isn’t it?” She said walking to me and I nodded. “Did your mom have a s*x talk with you?” She asked slightly giggling. I shook my head and she started looking at me with a little suspicion. “Tell me because now I’m starting to worry.” She said, I took a deep breath and started talking fast. “Well first uncle Arnold was talking about mate bonds or love and then I had to see my dad, but I was still kinda mad. I apologized, but then we got on the subject of my mom walking in on us just laying down. Then he mention my uncle dated your mom, did you know he dated your mom!?” I paused and took a breath. Daisy looked confused but still listening. “Well.. well then he asked something about how you felt since I said I didn’t care. I started to panic, Liddie came in and calm me. She told dad I talked to Andy about stuff. Then my dad figured it out and now…” I took another breath. “He knows.” I looked at her. “I don’t think I follow. I’m not sure about anything you said.” Daisy said completely confused. “He knows! He knows about… you know!” I said rather loudly and her eyes got wide. “Shhhh!!! Josh! You told him!” She was rightfully upset. “I didn’t tell him! He figured it out!” I said and she pushed me. “That’s because you’re always in a panic! Oh my goddess! What if he tells my dad! Or my MOM! Oh my goddess, they’re going to kill us.” She started to look genuinely horrified. “He said he wouldn’t tell! I think, to be honest I don’t remember. I was in the middle of a panic attack.” I said staring off blankly before continuing. “He did bring up a good point that we haven’t been safe and then he said something about alpha blood.” I said and then she started walking home. “Where are you going?” “Home to wait for my parent to kill me.” She said and I grabbed her arm. “I don’t want you to be upset.” I said and she glared at me. “You said that you told your dad you didn’t care. So now you care?” She yanked her arm away. “Daisy that’s not what I meant.” I said. “Then what did you mean?” She said and I stood there. “That’s what I thought.” She started walking away and I sighed. I watched her walk home and disappear into her house. I turned and started walking. I suddenly felt sad. I opened the door to the pack house and was about to make my way upstairs. I stopped and started towards the offices. I walked up and opened the door. “I’m almost done.” My mom said and she looked. “Oh Josh, this is unexpected.” I stood there a moment not saying anything. “Josh?” She stood up from her desk and started to walk around. I walked up to her and just hugged her. She put her arms around me. “Oh Josh… what’s wrong?” She asked and I heard the door shut. The sadness feeling became overwhelming and I just started to cry. “It’s ok.” She said softly. The feeling started to dissipate and I knew she was using some calming magic or something. She pulled away and looked at me. She started wiping my tears and stared at me. “Are you going to tell me what’s wrong?” She asked. “I told Daisy I didn’t care and she got really upset.” I said looking at my mom’s soft expression. “And you do care?” She asked. I nodded and she hugged me, holding me close. “You need to tell her that then Josh, instead of pretending you don’t have any feelings.” My mom said letting me go and looking at me. I shook my head and looked at the floor. “No?” She asked. “No.” I said. “Why?” She asked further. “Mom come on. Everyone has been telling me not to get attached, attachment with out mate bonds, and not being good enough. It’s…” I felt the tears coming. “It’s a blessing in disguise.” I said as I felt a tear drop. “Who ever said you weren’t good enough is wrong and you know that.” My mom was stern. She would never tolerate me putting myself down. I turned shaking my head grabbing the door and walking out.
