RAVEN
Fuck. f**k. f**k. f**k! I cussed in my head as I finally realized who he was.
He was the Alpha of the strongest pack ever and he was also the kind of man that could end my life just by flicking his wrist yet somehow he seemed different that what I'd imagined.
I tried to speak but I couldn't because I didn't want to say the wrong thing and draw from his unending wrath.
“What's your name?" He asked, his gray eyes taunting me.
"Raven.” I said, trying to sound braver than I felt.
My heart slammed with such intensity that I feared he would hear it if he took another step. The muscles on his body drew intricate patterns on his hard flesh. As much as I tried not to look at his chest, my eyes betrayed me. His strength was absolute and it oozed out of him like a scent that overrode my senses.
I realized my heart rate spiking wasn't because I feared him. It was because I feared how he made me feel.
“Raven." My name sounded like a sweet note on his lips as he said it. “Just like your hair."
His fingers moved fast before I could protest and rolled slowly down the length of my hair. I shivered from the pleasurable feeling that shocked my nerve endings. My body craved his touch more than the oxygen I breathe.
What are you? I wondered as I struggled to hold myself together.
“Are you okay?" He asked.
I realized I must have slipped up my facial expression and flushed as I suddenly felt embarrassed.
“I'm fine. Must be the painkillers they gave me." I lied.
A guard walked in, breaking the intense moment we were having. I'd have hugged him and kissed him for it. Alpha Roman smirked when he noticed how I relaxed. You don't miss anything, do you? I thought as I followed the guard away.
I wasn't sure how Venus had managed to poison Gusto's mind in such a short time and part of me wanted to be sure so I took the risk and made a detour going to his chambers. I knew the risk I was taking because there was every likelihood Venus would strangle the life out of me but luck smiled at me when I entered and she wasn't there.
Gusto was surprised to see me and his expression soon changed to disgust and irritation. I summoned the last strain of courage I had left putting my shame and dignity aside.
His words were a harsh whip that made my reality all too real. He assured me he wanted nothing to do with me and advised me to do the honorable thing ending my miserable existence.
As harsh as his words were, I found strength knowing this was the last time I would see his face. As much as I wanted to cry, the tears refused to come out. I'd cried too much when he rejected me the first time that it made me numb.
I left his chamber fast because I didn't want to risk making a bad day worse with Venus showing up. As I closed the doors, I closed my heart too for good. Never again, I promised myself. Never again will I let another man hurt me like this.
Astra showed up when she heard I was leaving the pack with Alpha Roman. She showed up and made a huge scene demanding to be allowed to come along with us at all costs. Roman's Beta, Ace, thought it was cute but the Alpha himself saw her as a nuisance and agreed just to get her to quiet down.
The journey went smoother than I expected and we arrived before nightfall. Jade wasn't like Trident Fall and I noticed the change immediately when we crossed the threshold. The atmosphere was thick with energy and it felt like a fog hanging above my head. It made me dizzy and as I turned to Astra sitting besides me I realized she felt it too.
“What's that?" I asked, barely able to breath.
“Welcome to Jade." Ace said with a big smile. “What you're feeling is the change in atmospheric pressure. It should blow over in a few days. Jade has strong warriors giving off dangerous levels of aura unlike Trident Fall.”
The palace was a big structure with bigger statues that made me feel insignificant and small. I tried to keep my excitement and awe to a minimum but the beauty around me was overwhelming. My eyes grew wide when we stepped inside. It was more than I could have imagined from big portraits to weirdly shaped vases.
The room I was given looked even better than the one Venus had almost clawed my eyes out for. I imagined she would pull off my leg and beat me silly with the limb if she saw this room. Astra was given the next room and we stayed up most of the night talking.
She told me she didn't trust Alpha Roman and I couldn't blame her. I didn't trust him either and it didn't make it easy to trust him when I had no f*****g idea what he wanted with me.
I thought of a logical explanation but it only made me realize there was none. I'd gone from being a lowly Omega to the mate of the Alpha's son to a lowly Omega that had been rejected by the Alpha's son. It doesn't get any worse than that. So what could he possibly want with me?
It didn't come as a surprise when I turned the tables on Astra teasing her about Ace flirting with her throughout the trip. Even though she admitted he was cute she underplayed it as nothing serious but I knew Astra. I knew Ace had made an impression on her. The signs were obvious.
When Astra got up to leave, I begged her to stay because so far she had distracted me from thinking about him. If she left then my mind would be his playground and I didn't want that.
The first few minutes of being alone, I convinced myself I was so exhausted from the trip and the atmospheric whatever it was that I'd fall asleep in no time. But hours passed and I knew I was f****d.
He's probably sleeping like a baby right now. I hope you're proud of yourself, I thought, screaming into a pillow.
I kept reminding myself he had a reputation that made the boogeyman look like a Saint. He was the most feared man in all the kingdom yet I feared him for all the wrong reasons.
“He's dangerous." I muttered to myself as I climbed out of bed. “You don't need any of it.”
The hallways were empty as I tried to find the kitchen. I prided myself having a natural homing beacon that led me straight to any kitchen even in unfamiliar territory. It took longer than expected but I found it. I poured myself a generous glass of milk and moved to look for a balcony. Instead I found an outdoor garden. The sound of water rushing in the distance fueled my curiosity so much so, that I had to wander deeper into the garden. The garden was like a mini labyrinth with exotic scents that ambushed my senses.
The closer I got the cooler I felt. My first thought was that they had somehow managed to build the castle close to a waterfall but I soon dismissed the idea as absurd. My n*****s slowly became erect from the cold and light fabric of the nightdress.
I finally reached my destination and what I saw almost made me drop the glass. There was a waterfall a few feet from where I stood but that wasn't the only thing I saw. Under the cascading stream of water was the tall muscular body of a man. His movements were graceful as he laced his fingers through long wet hair.
Roman! I gasped realizing who it was.
I wanted to run away from there as fast as my legs could take me but my body proved it had a mind of its own.
Roman continued washing his hair and I was grateful for the fact he hadn't seen me yet. I took a deep breath and tried to steady my nerves.
“I can sense you, Raven." He said without pausing his movements. I froze from shock at the sound of his voice.
He turned halfway. “Are you going to stand there and watch me like a pervert or are you going to join me?"
