Morning had arrived far too soon as I watched the sunrise, sitting on my balcony. The peaceful morning sunrise was brought to an end as my father's voice sounded in my head.
Come to the pack house, emergency meeting.
My father was the Alpha of the pack. Alpha Nolan. He was a feared and ruthless Alpha. My pack, Ash Moon Pack, was in the top three of the most powerful werewolf packs. Number one on the list was Blood Moon Pack and number two was Night Prowlers, then of course, my pack. We were trying to work with the Alpha of Blood Moon to come together for an alliance, but the Alpha was...difficult. He never responded to any advances or meetings my father offered.
I could only presume the meeting this morning was to try and arrange another meeting with the Alpha of Blood Moon. I walked back inside my room from my balcony, heading for the bathroom. I stared at my reflection with a frown.
I was tall, and I had a curvy figure and enough meat on me to be considered above the average weight for a werewolf, but it was all in the right places. I had a nice ass and a fairly decent sized chest. I did get a lot of looks from males. What can I say? The Alpha bloodline was just too good. I had bright blue eyes, with a tiny fleck of brown in the right one. I had big, curly brown hair that I tried to tame every night before bed, but it never worked. So I usually tied it up into a loose braid or a messy bun.
Hurry up, Zaila.
My father wasn't a patient man. I headed out of the bathroom and changed into a simple, plain, black dress that stopped just above my knees. I pulled my hair into a messy bun and left my room. My house was just out the back of the pack house. I requested my own house when I was old enough because I didn't want to live in the pack house with the rest of my family.
With my brisk walk, I arrived inside my father's office within a few minutes of leaving my house.
"What's the meeting for?" I asked as I stepped inside his office with an obvious frown.
"He responded to our request for a meeting." My father said with a grin. I had never seen this man grin before. He was always so sour and dull. Even toward his own mate, my mother; Luna Nikeeta.
"The Alpha of Blood Mood?" I asked, furrowing my brows.
"He did have one condition..."
I arched my brow at my father, tapping my foot in impatience. Yep, I got it from my father.
"He wants you to conduct the meeting."
"Me?" I scoffed out, folding my arms over my chest.
"You are the future of this pack, Zaila. I am retiring from the Alpha position soon." My father said with a frown, his eyes looking down.
"Can't you pass the Alpha title onto Reed?"
Reed was my little brother. I was older by one year. And he seemed to be more worthy of the Alpha position than me.
"You're the oldest. It's always been this way. You are to be the future Luna of Ash Moon Pack." He said, the frown only deepening as he stood from his chair behind the desk.
"Yes, but Reed has a mate, father. I... A mateless wolf cannot possibly rule over a pack, especially one with our status."
"Don't be ridiculous, Zai. You will be a splendid Luna. With or without a mate. You will find them." He walked over to me and put a hand on my shoulder, giving me a stern look. "The meeting is in an hour. He is coming here for it. I will be there with you. But you will be doing most of the talking. Please, don't screw this up for me. For your pack."
"Have you not heard the rumours about this man?" I asked, averting my gaze away from my father's.
"I've heard them, Zaila. He's a ruthless man. He's a scary, ugly, feral beast. He kills for the fun of it. He's wiped out packs, because they disrespected him. Blah, blah. If anyone can handle their own against him, it's you. You're a fiery woman. A terrible attitude. With a mouth that would put a sailor to shame." My father squeezed my shoulder firmly with reassurance.
"I can't promise anything."
